And then assclowns have the nerve to call this ish stain "patriotic." Beyond infuriating.

October 15, 20205 yr Not sure what specific study he's referring to, but it's likely one of the survey based reports where they look at responses to boilerplate questions patients are asked once they tested positive. Newsflash: People say they wear a mask more often than they actually do. File it under the "Have you been flossing every day?" and the "How many hours of exercise per week are you getting in?" folders.
October 15, 20205 yr I would be shocked if 85% of the people who contracted COVID wore masks regularly. I don't think anywhere near 85% of the national population wears masks regularly. You look at the recent hotspots in Florida and Texas, and it's like a mask-free zone. No ef'ing way I buy that 85% of people who tested positive for COVID were regular mask wearers.
October 15, 20205 yr 1 hour ago, vikas83 said: um... Lets apply some common sense math to this. There is currently 7,948,755 cases of Covid according the the John Hopkins tracker. Lets say all of those cases are people who wear masks. That means they are 85% of the 9,351,476 people who wear a mask. The population of the US is 328,200,000. So using that 85% number, if all of the confirmed cases of Covid are people wearing masks ( which we know it is not ), that would mean only 2.8% of Americans are wearing masks. What a load of sheet.

I explained my thoughts further down, but my operating assumptions are: if you're wearing masks, you're at least somewhat less likely to catch it (and you're FAR less likely if OTHERS are also wearing masks) it's very unlikely that 85% of the population is regularly wearing masks to begin with, so saying 85% of people who catch COVID are wearing it seems insane If we were still in early days I'd say it's simply correlation not causation. That is to say, in early days you had hotspots in places like NYC and Seattle where the population is more amenable to wearing a mask (especially as the virus is VERY concentrated), so it's BECAUSE the virus is running through the population that the same population is also wearing masks. But the more recent hotspots are areas like Florida and Texas where large populations of people are more militant anti-maskers. Mask compliance in Florida is probably under 50%. So the "85% of people who catch the virus wore masks" sounds like a charitable interpretation of an outright lie by Trump.

We have 200 people and 160 are wearing masks. 20 people caught the virus and of those 20 people, 15 were wearing masks. 85% of the people that caught it were wearing masks.

It also depends on what you classify as someone who wears a mask. For example, my wife went into her school to pickup a power cord as her cord for her laptop stopped working. While she was there, she ran into another teacher and they talked for a bit. Two days later, my wife was informed that the other teacher tested positive for Covid. While she (the other teacher) wasn’t wearing a mask while taking to my wife, she does wear a mask most other times. She likely considers herself as someone who wears a mask. People who wear a mask, but don’t cover their nose, probably even consider themselves as someone who wears a mask.

October 16, 20205 yr Former NJ Gov. Christie was on GMA this morning and said he made a mistake by NOT wearing a mask at the WH. False sense of security being there thinking everyone around you is negative. He said he kept himself safe for 7 months, and he let his guard down. Apparently he was pretty sick but is home and feeling much better. Wasn't expecting he would be a humbled person. Next time we see him he'll be wearing his mask.

Hopefully, once Trump is gone, he'll start to help get the GOP bac k to some semblance of normalcy, but that ship may have sailed. Dude should have been the GOP nominee. He is a bit of a dumb a$$ like Trump, but at least he understands how to govern.
October 16, 20205 yr Some of you might remember, schmoopie's sister is a nurse and volunteered to work the COVID unit of her hospital. In doing so, she contracted the disease but thankfully recovered just fine (and did not pass it to her husband or two young kids). Anyway, one of her patients family nominated her for an award because of her kindness and compassion while their father was dying from the virus. If you have a second, this is a sweet read that reminds us of how special the people who are on the front lines dealing with this are
