hospitalizations nearly 2,000 and rising rapidly in PA (and the nation), but nah, the virus is over now that Biden won.  BTW, where is our President as the nation begins to suffer greatly yet again?  Answer.....salty over his loss so giving up on his job.  Quite the people's president I'd say.

Speaking of China virus - they have been inocculating thousands of people with unapproved vaccines.  What could go wrong?

China and their impeccable human rights history wouldn't do something like that!

I expect this debate to be fierce over the coming months....

A lot of issues to unpack with this idea... It's a big data concept, so how much big data do we want to allow to control our lives? Should spectators have to prove vaccination status before going to an event? Is it a health/privacy issue? There are some people, immunocompromised, etc. who are unable to get vaccines. So they can't go at all? How soon can a vaccination be developed and released? We can't vaccinate everyone all at once, so we know it will be rationed at first. Is it a situation where a privileged few get to enjoy going to events while everyone else is stuck waiting for enough vaccination to be released? Can we reach herd immunity for COVID, and if we do, do we even need this idea anymore?

It seems like an overly complicated idea for a situation that I hope gets sorted out fairly soon... ie. I hope we have a COVID vaccine soon; it is accepted, released, and enough people get it; that we can look past this within the next few years.

Has the Great Barrington Declaration been discussed?  https://gbdeclaration.org

This was passed along to me by a client of mine that is a practicing MD with the University of Michigan. The screenshot is of the first 24 leading medical professionals, of now over 1000, that have signed this declaration. If you think this is just the uneducated that feel these masks and shutdowns are causing more problems than solutions, I've got some news for you... Go ahead and look the names up. I did. The three that signed and the 24 in the first screenshot.... all of them are practicing, in good standing with their states and institutions and support the measures as written below.

The Great Barrington Declaration

The Great Barrington Declaration – As infectious disease epidemiologists and public health scientists we have grave concerns about the damaging physical and mental health impacts of the prevailing COVID-19 policies, and recommend an approach we call Focused Protection.

Coming from both the left and right, and around the world, we have devoted our careers to protecting people. Current lockdown policies are producing devastating effects on short and long-term public health. The results (to name a few) include lower childhood vaccination rates, worsening cardiovascular disease outcomes, fewer cancer screenings and deteriorating mental health – leading to greater excess mortality in years to come, with the working class and younger members of society carrying the heaviest burden.

Keeping students out of school is a grave injustice.Keeping these measures in place until a vaccine is available will cause irreparable damage, with the underprivileged disproportionately harmed.

Fortunately, our understanding of the virus is growing. We know that vulnerability to death from COVID-19 is more than a thousand-fold higher in the old and infirm than the young. Indeed, for children, COVID-19 is less dangerous than many other harms, including influenza.

As immunity builds in the population, the risk of infection to all – including the vulnerable – falls. We know that all populations will eventually reach herd immunity – i.e. the point at which the rate of new infections is stable – and that this can be assisted by (but is not dependent upon) a vaccine. Our goal should therefore be to minimize mortality and social harm until we reach herd immunity.

The most compassionate approach that balances the risks and benefits of reaching herd immunity, is to allow those who are at minimal risk of death to live their lives normally to build up immunity to the virus through natural infection, while better protecting those who are at highest risk. We call this Focused Protection.
Adopting measures to protect the vulnerable should be the central aim of public health responses to COVID-19. By way of example, nursing homes should use staff with acquired immunity and perform frequent PCR testing of other staff and all visitors. Staff rotation should be minimized. Retired people living at home should have groceries and other essentials delivered to their home. When possible, they should meet family members outside rather than inside. A comprehensive and detailed list of measures, including approaches to multi-generational households, can be implemented, and is well within the scope and capability of public health professionals.

Those who are not vulnerable should immediately be allowed to resume life as normal. Simple hygiene measures, such as hand washing and staying home when sick should be practiced by everyone to reduce the herd immunity threshold. Schools and universities should be open for in-person teaching. Extracurricular activities, such as sports, should be resumed. Young low-risk adults should work normally, rather than from home. Restaurants and other businesses should open. Arts, music, sport and other cultural activities should resume. People who are more at risk may participate if they wish, while society as a whole enjoys the protection conferred upon the vulnerable by those who have built up herd immunity.

On October 4, 2020, this declaration was authored and signed in Great Barrington, United States, by:

Dr. Martin Kulldorff, professor of medicine at Harvard University, a biostatistician, and epidemiologist with expertise in detecting and monitoring infectious disease outbreaks and vaccine safety evaluations.

Dr. Sunetra Gupta, professor at Oxford University, an epidemiologist with expertise in immunology, vaccine development, and mathematical modeling of infectious diseases.

Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, professor at Stanford University Medical School, a physician, epidemiologist, health economist, and public health policy expert focusing on infectious diseases and vulnerable populations."

I think the scariest part is they are claiming to do it on priority for those being sent out of the country for work or other travel.. seems... safe for the rest of the world

My state - Ohio - has 116 deaths in people under 50.  We have an average 117 TEENAGE drivers die per year.

This thing is an F'ing joke.  Protect the elderly, open the rest of it up for us.

What would you like Trump and the federal government to do exactly? Override state and local governments and implement sweeping federal policies?

His people said just before the election that he was giving up on the virus and it is what it is.

Last time I saw one of these, Dr. Demon Semen's video was banned from facebook. Quickly find refuge at parler before it's too late!

The same people that call Trump an authoritarian are mad that he won't impose stringent federal lockdowns on the nation rather than allow state and local governments to impose their own restrictions. 🥴

1000 sounds like a lot but the number of prominent physicians who disagree DRAMATICALLY outweigh those 1000, with much many more "leading" physicians in the field of public health epidemiology and virology in the latter category as well as virtually every prominent national and international medical society.

You can find similar petitions for hydroxychloquine efficacy and vaccines causing autism signed by doctors. They mean very little.

Not sure if you heard the good news, but now that the election is over, the hoax virus is now gone. No need to protect anyone now that it's been exposed as fake news from the start.

Physicians, or leading epidemiologist?  Because 15 of those people in that screenshot, are epidemiologists at some of the most renowned institutions in the world, including Stanford, Harvard, Edinburgh, Auckland, etc. etc.   And that doesn't include others who aren't epidemiologists, but oncologists and other immunologists at places like Queen's University, York, Tel-Aviv, Yale, Oxford...

Literally never said it was a hoax. So, clearly you can't read.  But there are definitely two ways to approach this issue... and one is drastic, harmful and shortsighted.  99% of people recover from COVID-19.  So we're going to kill industries, force people out of their homes, increase heart attack, stroke and suicide deaths, and then what?  Still have a vaccine that's only partially effective because Coronaviruses mutate?

F you, ****.  You think you're smart?   You want to talk about the big bad Republican trying to steal your money through the virus? How are you going to feel when Darden, McDonalds, Amazon and Walmart are the only economic institutions still standing?  Because every restaurant, bar and gym is going to be forced closed by a government mandate that LITERALLY won't impact the death rate.

Screw you.

I'll say this again, so let me be clear, given what we now know after 11 months, any epidemiologist who implies or outright states that masks don't work, is a F'ing idiot. It's literally their job to understand the basics of viral transmission dynamics, so I don't really feel like I'm going out on a limb here.

YOU ARE AN IDIOT. THE WORD MASK DOESN'T EVEN APPEAR IN THAT DECLARATION.
