Thankfully my parents are travelling out of state to do Thanksgiving with my siblings so don't have to worry about them. They are not careful at all.

My wife is currently pregnant, so we're being particularly careful, not going to her parents in Jersey like we typically would have. Will probably just order something and celebrate by ourselves. Not ideal but better safe than sorry for us at this point with the pregnancy. Zoom holidays it is.

It's definitely going to be a tough winter, but I just keep reminding myself that this is all temporary, it will pass and we will be back to normal at some point hopefully in the spring/summer.

Yes, that would be an inspiring Zoom get together...

one of my friends was texting me this morning that the Eagles won’t win another game all season

We canceled thanksgiving on both sides of the family.  With my parents, outside of schmoopie, my sister and her husband, everyone there is over 70.  Can't risk it.

And my sister who was going to host on my side of the family cancelled on everyone.  She's the one who worked on the COVID unit and had it.  She's seeing the numbers rise in the hospitals and said she can't in good conscience hold a dinner with people from outside of her home attending.  I think this is how most people should proceed.  I know it sucks especially as so many have already been isolated from family, but it's the right thing to do right now.

set up a zoom for the cleveland game!  i'll check in!

and i'll give them 1-2 more wins. cleveland is a possibility...& they finish with dallas and the football team...so they could win 1 or 2 of those.  in between, they'll get their azzes kicked by russell wilson, aaron rodgers, drew brees, & kyler murray.

We canceled our thanksgiving with family. Doing zoom with both sides of grandparents.
Frankly, thanksgiving always gives me anxiety because my parents just don’t accept that my kids 6-8 don’t like any of the thanksgiving food. It is a stress point. This eliminates that thankfully. I’ll just make a prime rib... maybe some cornbread and some Brussels sprouts.

We are ordering from Talula's Table and splitting it with my sister and her family who live down the street.  But we won't be eating it together.  We are also go to do a Zoom toast with family.

I quoted you because we are ordering the cornbread and brussels sprouts.  Also turkey and gravy, brioche stuffing and whipped truffled potatoes.  I'm looking forward to a gourmet meal, staying in my pj's, drinking wine and watching football.

at this point it would be best. nobody wants get stuck with a crap draft pick after winning only 6 games because they "won" a crap division.

Good to know as you have 1st hand knowledge of what it's really like out there.

Talula's Table looks heavenly.  Can't believe I've yet to eat a full meal there.  I received some desserts and they were awesome.  Enjoy.

My wife drove up to Northern CA and picked up her parents, who are both 71. They will be with us for Thanksgiving, just the 4 of us.

She's on COVID right now as the charge nurse - unfortunately it's getting ugly with the numbers rising.  Although they do seem to understand better how to treat it.

You can always stop in to Talula's and pick up things from their refrigerator case to take home and heat up... anytime not just Thanksgiving. I highly recommend! They also do that weekly dinner which is a nice change of pace from cooking as well.  They have a system with a table outside where you can just pick it up contactless.  What are your plans for Thanksgiving, Di?

The timing of these announcements is incredible.

I wish I posted that this would happen. I told my wife it would if Biden wins. I know it’s conspiracy level thinking but the timing is amazing.

I’m pretty sure they delayed the vaccine announcement until 2 weeks after the election on purpose to defeat Trump.

I know people want to see their families, but we need to look at the bigger picture: It's worth giving up this Thanksgiving to make sure you have future Thanksgivings with your loved ones. Our traditional gathering is around 12-15  people coming from all over, which includes my octogenarian grandparents. We all agreed it was the right decision to cancel that this year. Instead, my gf and I are just going to have dinner with my parents on that day. They live up the street from me and have been working from home, as have I, so we'll all more or less be able to isolate for two weeks prior. The one variable is my gf working, but the four of us have occasionally and briefly gathered for meals over the course of the pandemic, so this is basically just maintaining the same "bubble" that we've had all along. So, if you're going to gather, keep it as small as possible (4-5 people max). Personally, I have often complained about the runaround and stress of the holidays and said "One year I'd like to just stay close to home and have a low-key holiday," so it looks like I'm getting that this year. I can deal.

My younger brother has been hosting but I'm thinking of just staying home. My sister just started a new treatment so she won't be going anywhere, and we can just zoom.  Mr. Di's sister says she still wants to come out and toast (I've seen her lots) -we'll be drinking champagne in the morning, bawling by noon, and I can have either cooked or take out turkey for later.  My kids can do whatever they want.  I'm really leaning on sitting this one out.

Also,  this holiday will be pretty emotional for me.  I'm totally OK with not sharing my grief in front of the whole family.  Next year will be better.

My son is a 1/2 mile from me.  Daughter lives in Phoenixville which is 45-50 minutes.  She is home often.

Well be kind to yourself, allow yourself time to grieve... it's only natural that this will be a tough holiday.  If there is ever anything we can do, just ask.

My mom's sister, who was essentially her best friend, died around this time 10 years ago. It's still hard for her, but she says it does get better. I'm glad your kids don't live far,

My brother will come up from Virginia and it will be my parents, myself and my bro. That's what it is usually. Christmas will be very small this year to. But we don't mind.

The best gift of all would be this vaccine being ready (per Fauci) by mid-December and it actually working.
