Even though they're the most vulnerable population to coronavirus. Not to mention the coronavirus pandemic is nothing like the swine flu: novel vs. endemic virus; we've already experienced 240,000+ COVID deaths where flu isn't nearly that deadly,... But they still remember the 450 or so people that developed GBS from the swine flu vaccine in 1976.

November 18, 20204 yr There's 3 people out here today. No idea how much (if any) viral load I'm being exposed to. There's just no way to know. I also don't think it's fair that no one tells you anything either. I believe one person had it here and was out for 2 months! BWes36 has same thing -had to find out on his own. I'm putting in for the rest of my vacation days. I will also request working from home if I find out anyone in here tests positive. It's probably too late by now anyway. Be nice to know if I have it and am asymptomatic. I'm feeling better than I did last week and I stayed home to work. Edit to say never been to any of those places (except McDonalds!) LOL Carry on

We are blinded, perhaps, by the mirage of immortality. I'm not sure if this is a sarcastic comment or not. At face value, it would seem to be one, because leaving the decision to local authorities is more or less passing the buck, but it also seems that your dad is against lockdowns, so I'm curious as to what kind of leadership he would prefer to see here. 37 minutes ago, Phillyterp85 said: There is talk again about "shutting down". You can't shut down forever. You can't shut down until there is a vaccine. You can't shut down until the numbers decline to a level where testing, tracking and tracing could work. Dr. Michael Osterholm , who has now been appointed to the Biden Coronavirus advisory committee, thinks we should shut down for six weeks and pay everybody to stay home. The printing press in the basement of the White House will be very busy printing debt for this ridiculous idea. I don't even want to talk about tests. Sometimes in emergencies, you need to finance through a crisis with debt. It can't be done indefinitely, but if a vaccine is truly around the corner, this would seem to be reasonable response to get us around the corner and one that has basically been undertaken by various industrialized nations around the world. There are two main problems I see with this as it pertains to the debt where you can reasonably criticize the response. First is that our debt is approaching $30T. That certainly would seem to be too high and that it would be precarious to add more, but the problem in my mind is that we continued to add debt at a rapid rate during the most recent period of prosperity, rather than reducing and thus being able to better finance our way through a crisis like this with debt. Aside from all of this, it's a matter of priorities. The federal government gave a $500 billion handout to corporate America but gave a mere fraction of that to the American people that would need it the most to weather this storm. 37 minutes ago, Phillyterp85 said: What is conspicuously missing from the rhetoric and impassioned arguments of either side, is any reference to the success gained in Southeast Asia and New Zealand over the virus. The SCIENTIFIC PROOF of what does work is in plain sight, as opposed to the theories espoused by the Academic camps in this debate. China, with a population almost five times greater than ours has contained the virus and resumed "normal" life. You don't like how they did it? Do you like what is going on in our country now? This is another part where I'm not sure what point he's driving at. These countries are certainly good examples of how to control the virus, but the steps they took seem to run counter to what he implies that he favors here. They imposed nationwide lockdowns, enacted strict travel restrictions that remain in place, conducted thorough contact tracing with harsh penalties for non-compliance, and they paid people to stay home and supplied them directly with food and other necessities so people would not have to go outside of their homes to re-supply. These countries have deep-rooted cultural traditions of communalism and state control going back to ancient times. They are more accepting of authoritarianism and what many here would call invasions of privacy. In short, they undertook highly aggressive mitigation efforts that include economic interventions and the exercise of centralized authority that the author doesn't seem to support, and they are prepared to do so again at the flip of a switch. It is also ingrained into their societies to have a greater sense of community and to care for each other as a patriotic duty. That last part certainly plays a role, but you're not going to flip a cultural switch in America, and the centralized, aggressive mitigation efforts imposed by these Asian countries still provide the foundation for everyone in these countries to comfortably participate in the response. Finally, aren't many of the "academic camps involved in this debate" mostly scientists and doctors? Who else should we be listening to?
November 18, 20204 yr In 'N Out fries aren't as good as other places, but the shakes are awesome. I might like a Shake Shack milkshake if I ever got one that wasn't already half melted by the time it gets to me. But I don't usually get fries or a shake. Double hamburger with onion in a lettuce wrap and I'm good. There is no comparison of the actual burgers -- In 'N Out by a mile, and no idea how they keep the prices so low. Fatburger is trash, and I once was a lender to the company.

November 18, 20204 yr Ew Fatburger sucks. Some top fries are McDonalds, 5Guys, Buddy's and Chickie's and Pete's crab fries. Best burger I've ever had is from the Country Butcher meat market in KSQ. Buy their burger patties and paco makes them on the grill. Can't beat them. Especially the blends that have bacon or gouda in them.

I kinda put them in their own category compared to "real" fries but every once and awhile I still get the craving. Gotta give it up to those crispy salt n' MSG bites. I have the same view on McDonald's fries like I do Pizza Hut. I accept that they are not fries or pizza, but I like them anyway. They're their own thing, but they hit the spot whenever you need a fix with greasy/fatty food. They're not my go-to when I really want a nice order of fries or a pizza, but sometimes I gotta have them. I think I heard somewhere that they brine McDonald's fries in sugar, so they are basically crack in food form.

McDonald's fries are great but in their own sort of category. SAME for Pizza Hut which is freaking delicious no matter what anyone says but obviously not on par with a legit pie.

For whatever reason, they aren't quite as consistent as places like Shake Shack, which give you the same burger no matter where you are, whereas with In N Out, I've had great burgers at the LV and Hollywood locations, but a slightly subpar one at the Culver City one. Gotcha. I was in San Fran on family vacation. I’d probably have a different opinion if there wasn’t such a long line for the food. So I think that also caused me to raise my expectations. I liked it, just didn’t think it was worth waiting in line like that for.

November 18, 20204 yr The good news today, as the pandemic rages, is that for a while, people talked about burgers and fries and the arguments were way more fun. Burger Rankings of the three most discussed: 1. In n Out 2. Shake Shack 3. 5 Guys I really miss the burgers in the Standard Tap. 90s maybe, early 00s they had one of the best burgers in the city.

She's the one who worked on the COVID unit and had it. She's seeing the numbers rise in the hospitals and said she can't in good conscience hold a dinner with people from outside of her home attending. I think this is how most people should proceed. I know it sucks especially as so many have already been isolated from family, but it's the right thing to do right now. I think it depends on where you live our county is just now up over 600+ cases and my close family all lives in this county. But we're still deciding on what to do. My daughter the nurse and her husband will not be attending either way.
November 18, 20204 yr There is a place over the border in Delaware called 2 Fat Guys and you can order your burger "Skinny Guy" which is made with a low carb wrap. I actually prefer it! The flavor is more focused on the burger and the wrap holds in all the pickles, lettuce and onion really well so it's not dripping all over you!
November 18, 20204 yr Anyone in here old enough to remember this "beauty"? A McDs competitor back in the day. Not sure how far they stretched but mi-Atlantic region anyway.
