Continually failing to comply with orders from the dept of health doesn't have much room for interpretation. Not sure how it would be any different if they inspected his kitchen, found unsanitary conditions, ordered him to shutdown as a result, and he kept refusing to do so. Whether a restaurant is deemed unsafe from a food borne illness or a highly contagious respiratory virus, the dept of health has fairly wide discretion to force businesses to comply with orders in the interests of public health. I'm not sure what angle he's trying to take here, but it's got my attention... I'll give him that.
November 28, 20204 yr How does everyone see the restrictions being lifted? Is it a slow return to normal with fewer and fewer restrictions remaining in place as more people get vaccinated/new cases fall? Or do they keep us masked and socially distanced until the bitter end?

Two different types of restrictions. Masks mandates will remain in a lot of regions long after vaccines are being rolled out. Probably at least until the end of 2021. These are low-hanging fruit from a policy perspective and cost basically nothing. As for other types of restrictions like capacity limits, stay at home orders for non-essential workers, etc, it's all predicated on health care system capacity, just as it was back in March and April. They don't make those types of decisions arbitrarily, governors are imposing them to try to stem the flood of patients from over-running hospitals and causing an even bigger public healthcare crisis.
November 28, 20204 yr Brace yourselves for the "thanksgiving spike” where we all get reprimanded for infecting each other but rest assured that seeing your family posed no additional risks or caused any spikes. The numbers you’re going to see next week are merely the catch up reporting that will happen because all the labs and doctors offices were closed and reporting has been delayed a day or two. You might see 250k new cases on Monday. Just don’t fall for the guilt trip.

And also we will see the numbers skyrocket next week but there is a lag in reporting over the holiday with many labs closed or scaled back hours as well as the increase in testing that was done by people wanting to travel so the results have been delayed. Just saying expect to see a massive spike but not because the virus is spreading more quickly or in any way more dangerous than it was last week. Just because a)more testing was done last week and b)a lot of tests coming back at once. Like a surge of Biden votes basically 😂

Most labs took 2 days off, that's not really a huge lag. No one expects a spike the next few days after Thanksgiving when those "missed cases" will roll in, it will be a week or 2. Also, "don't fall for the guilt trip" is a massively dumb thing to focus on as people gather in large numbers and travel as we hit a peak in new cases per day. If you had a big gathering then yes, feel guilty. Stop Fing being selfish.

Whether you traveled or not, they’re going to slam us for it next week when the delayed cases start rolling in. And yes, I am expecting a spike resulting from the delays. Bank on that. 250 on Monday or Tuesday, watch

Sure I expect a slight spike for the 2 days of testing missed, making up for the already reported mild dip: I also however, suspect an actual "spike" in cases about 2 weeks from now from people being selfish **** who think the world revolves around their every whim, and that is a MUCH bigger issue. F those people with a Fing cactus.

I just think the lag is going to make it seem worse than it is...but either way it’s bound to get worse before it gets better

It's a long bleak winter ahead with no hope or sign that things will get better. Hey if it helps, the Spanish Flu took 2 full years before all restrictions were lifted...wait...that can't really be helpful...forget about it.

I'll go so far as to say that if distribution goes off without a hitch, accompanied by some improvements in testing capacity and efficiency, we'll see such a large reduction in community spread that the WHO might declare an end to the pandemic by winter '21 or spring '22. With the UKs health system and government? I very much doubt it goes off without a hitch. 7 hours ago, Gannan said: Yeah I have to hang out on the couch drinking beer, playing video games, and watching movies. It’s torture. Here we have a restriction of 8 people and also a strong recommendation to only socialize with people in your actual household, i.e. don’t even go near the 8. What is a reasonable number in your mind? btw - Guilt is a powerful tool and absolutely used over here as a whip.

What is a reasonable number in your mind? btw - Guilt is a powerful tool and absolutely used over here as a whip. It depends on the number of people in your household. If you've got 4 kids and live with 2 in-laws then sure 8 is fine. Those people are in your circle and don't represent new exposures. I know a few people who only interact with their say sibling's family who lives around the corner and that would be fine too IMO. 4 couples getting together without any previous isolation then going about their lives is a totally different issue though. If I had to make a firm cut off I think 8-10 and saying keep it in your household as much as possible is fair.
November 28, 20204 yr That's 3 out for my wife's practice out now. They can no longer staff 2 people in the hospital at once during the day like usual so definitely a higher risk scenario for laboring patients.

The 10yo is on the iPad too much, but it is what it is. We let the 7yo play on the trampoline in the yard. We got that the first month of Covid, good purchase.
