Chester County @ 12,262 cases.  Seems like we just cracked the 10K last week or so.

I'm not going anywhere unless absolutely necessary.  Today I had to pick something up at Lowes and got there right at 6 am as they opened the doors and needed some stuff from Giant for dinner, so I hit it at 7 am (they open at 6 but its for seniors only for that hour)

Sorry to hear that Alpha 😧

that's pretty awesome. though it requires a lot of space, which is much more of a problem in dense towns and restaurant districts of cities.

The downtown district of our city blocked off two of the main streets during the summer where most of the restaurants are located to allow for them to use the extra space for outdoor dining. A neighboring city did the same but just for street parking spaces instead of blocking off the streets entirely.

I was just at the Giant for gas, lunch and wine.  I was glad it was not crowded at all.  I do try to go early when I have to. I'm practically a senior now anyway.

Sorry to hear.  The mother of a girl that is supposed to be taking her black belt test this Saturday with my daughter passed away the other week from Covid complications.  She was not really a picture of health though.  I'd say she was pushing 500lbs.  Still sucks and I feel awful for her daughter.

yup. the virus isn't the government's fault, but the lack of cooperation across the aisle on this topic has really screwed the American people.

yeah that's pretty stupid.

there are a few high-end places in my area that are doing the same. I've spoken with one of the waiters who works (worked?) at Marsha Brown's in New Hope, they're REALLY upset at the owners for not opening at all yet. they're not even TRYING to operate under the current rules.

The restaurants my buddy owns are "Charcoal” in Marina Del Rey (he just finished remodeling it cost about a mill) and Mellise  in Santa Monica.   He is so screwed right now.  You cant keep those high end places open in these conditions.  They depend on the wine sales and tips

Im never home.  Always working all over town like there isnt a pandemic going on.

Funny because i should have waited a year to retire from the city.  Those guys are only working 2 days a week but have to stay home the other 3.   But getting full pay.  For months.   Sweet deal for them just like with most government jobs right now

We could have guessed this from the start

More than half of the money from the Treasury Department’s coronavirus emergency fund for small businesses went to just 5 percent of the recipients, according to data on more than 5 million loans that was released by the government Tuesday evening in response to a Freedom of Information Act request and lawsuit.

According to data on the government’s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), about 600 mostly larger companies, including dozens of national chains, received the maximum amount allowed under the program of $10 million.

But the new data shows more than half of the $522 billion in the same time frame went to bigger businesses, and only 28 percent of the money was distributed in amounts less than $150,000.

Independent restaurant owners have arguably been the most screwed by all this.  Not nearly enough support from the original stimulus package and with Trump walking away from the table on the second one they're going to wait through several really tough months with cases spiking and winter coming. At least for your buddy's sake in LA the weather shouldn't be as much of a factor in reducing outdoor dining/takeout traffic as say the north east.

He cant do outdoor at either spot.  But im petty sure he’s doing take-out at Charcoal in MDR.  But as mentioned, it cost h thousands just to open up his kitchens before a cent is earned. He pays top dollar to his staff and the prep 4 hrs before they open for business

Yeah there's no way to get back all that income.  Even over the summer with takeout and outdoor seating in as full gear as possible one of the nicer restaurant owners out here said he was still only at about 50% of what he normally does.  Which with the margins restaurants run on that's not great and going to get worse in the winter.  At least they've been able to do takeout cocktails and booze to get some of that income back.  (I've made the sacrifice of getting way too many takeout margaritas these past few months...I'm basically a hero NBD).

But real talk anyone getting takeout from independent restaurants and can afford it should be tipping like they're in house. At least.

I have been a loyal customer of his on Seamless. Tell him to put the calamari appetizer back on the menu!

Great restaurant.

Great restaurant.

I surfed and went to school w/ him and Raphael Luneta (also a pretty succesful chief/restaurants owner).  They (josiah and raphael) were best friends, went to chefs school buddy system style in France (how they paid for that ill never know they didnt have money) and came back master chefs and opened Jirraffe in santa monica.   It was a great restaurant very successful but they split ways after about 10 years and in josiah opened mellisse.

Both if them have been cooking shows a bunch of times.

Raphael kept jirraffe but ended up shutting it down. Now he has a restaurant called Lunnetta’s in santa monica.   High end Breakfast and brunch and its so good.  You should check it out.  Ive all the electrical for their restaurants including the major renovations they have done.

ill tell him about the calamari but i have to be honest josiah can be a jacktard in general. Stuck up would be a good word for him.  raphael on the other hand,  is the coolest dude you would ever want to meet.  Both are perfectionists and competitive when it comes to their work.
But both have hooked me up big time on many occasions where i sat down with friends or dates for $800 plus tabs w/ no charge.  Bro i get such love when i bring dates.  I just call them in advance and say im bring a date so come sit down and have a drink with us.  And get the red carpet treatment. Lol. Of course i gotta  tip the waiters and do so very handsomely but its way beyond worth it. They will make stuff off the menu and bring a full desert sample platter.  It WAS crazy fun.  the good ole days.

Now they are in jeopardy of loosing everything

This ↑.

I commend you for your 'sacrifice'. I really enjoy cooking and I love the money it saves, so I have never been the type to pay for something I can make at home. However, the Mrs. and I have made a point to eat food from local restaurants and food trucks once a week if we can (just to do our small part). If everyone does a little, we may be able to keep these establishments treading water. I would never want to own a restaurant, its damn hard work.
