hunt jr's situation is similar. they gave the options of hybrid (going in person every other day) or 100% virtual. we chose hybrid since he does much better in person...and there are only 4-6 kids in his classes the days he goes in person.

Close friend of mine is a middle school teacher.  Because of parents complaining they offered people a choice of remote or in-person learning.  She has a grand total of 3 kids who now come in-in person.  🤷‍♂️

Doesn't really affect her since she was teaching from the classroom either way and it's pretty easy to keep 3 kids distanced. But yeah it seems as if the attitude varies pretty widely.

Around me the public schools are prioritizing the kids with IEPs which I think is smart.  Hybrid 2-on-2-off for most of the kids with a staggered schedule (with an option for full remote) but the kids with extra learning needs are in full time.  Not ideal but better than nothing I guess.

The teachers in my daughter's classes are constantly messaging on ClassDojo about kids not completing assignments when virtual.  It's a huge problem.  Some kids just need that in person attention to stay locked in I guess.  I guess their parents either don't care or don't have time to make sure their kids are getting their work done - I don't know.  The situation sucks all around.

Definitely a lot of that, but still even with good parents it's hard to force an 8 year old to sit in front of a computer screen all day within walking distance of all their favorite stuff.  Another big issue where I work has been with the vocational school.  Only so much remote learning you can do if you're learning how to be a plumber.

It's a real clusterF.  Better than last year when everyone was figuring crap out on the fly at least.  So there's that.

My fiancé is a pre-K teacher who went from virtual to hybrid this past week. She's got 5 who are back in-person and 3 who stayed virtual. You can imagine how much fun she's had this year trying to teach kids who have never stepped foot in a classroom setting virtually all year.

My daughter is a reading specialist K-2 and while apprehensive about starting hybrid, it is going well.  Being an interventionist collecting the data from assessments is part of her job, and sadly her district's children have regressed.  The amount of time and effort all of them have put in between planning for in person, planning virtual, has been a complete nightmare at times.  She is burning out, quickly.  Last night she told me she may not do summer reading.  Of course that may change.  She also signed up for another course (ESL) which was super cheap, and will put her at masters + 15 when finished.  Next step on her pay scale.

Don't you think that's disgusting?  LOL

I know that's tough for you to hear, but if it makes you feel better, you never had a chance.

If you want to keep it traditional, the masculine form fiancé is typically used to describe "an engaged man,” while the feminine form fiancée is used to describe "an engaged woman.” Pronunciation of both fiancé and fiancée is identical.

There's only 8 students in her class?

Must be rough on her having to constantly deal with pre-k levels of intellect both in her professional and personal life.

Yes, she's in a federal program that offers free pre-K to kids who qualify. In a typical year, she has the maximum 18 students and there's a long waiting list should any kid move or drop out for whatever reason. This year, most likely because they started all virtual and thus couldn't be used by parents as a free daycare, way less kids were signed up. Ended up working out, because a virtual class of 18 pre-K children would have been rough.

My daughter's school has been running 4 days in school, 1 day virtual since the year started.  They took an extended break around the holidays.  Every one of the teachers in her school that I've talked to WANTS the learning to be in person.  I think the circumstances and opinions vary drastically depending on the area you live in.

I'm not sure what point you're getting at - I understand you're old and weird and don't often make much sense.

Good suggestions, but something tells me that wouldn't go over well with my fiancée's family. They're hardcore liberals.

Toaster's definitely having one of his bad days today. So sad.

Is she a teacher's aide by any chance?

Are you marrying Munson?

No, she's a real teacher.

I'm pretty good at putting on a normie face when I'm in public. But there's a deep hatred and resentment that silently brews inside of me when politics come up. I imagine this is how I look as I nod in agreement with some of the things they say:
