Oh no, you can't waste 64 dollars at the movie theater watching a **** movie. I'm so sorry

Politicians need to lead a charge one way or another: 1 - if a vaccine is likely in the near future, we hunker down until available. It's just unlikely with the previous quickest vaccine being 3 years I believe. 2 - acknowledge to folks we can't stop it with lockdowns (half a** ones at that) and that we expect more cases and deaths as we work to re-open. As tragic as that is. Better to get people to buy-in like they did in the beginning.

There absolutely will be a 2nd wave and it is highly unlikely the US goes back into shutdown when it comes. So the army of armchair Monday morning Qb's will have their day and we will get a very good idea of what we avoided in the 1st wave.

Which was the basis of the lockdown.

Which I get is a problem, and I do think we could be more aggressive here. But you can't just ignore NH deaths because they're inconvenient.

You think state governor's agenda is advanced by having people out of work/sitting in their homes/not spending money and improving their state's economy? Not everything's about Trump, despite what he thinks. State Governor's are just trying to keep their heads above water/balance saving lives and improving the economy.

So the army of armchair Monday morning Qb's will have their day and we will get a very good idea of what we avoided in the 1st wave. A second wave may or may not be as bad TBH. Lots of factors went into the second wave in 1918 being as devastating as it was and only one of which was a premature relaxation of the regulations. It could be, but we just don't know. You're correct though in that a second shutdown would be very difficult to pull off. Just now, DBW said: Oh you mean they don’t want 67% of their Covid cases coming from people who are SITTING AT HOME? Oh FFS this nonsense again. 1) That number was from a self reported survey of people who claimed they mostly stayed at home. 2) You're sampling from a population in NYC that is almost entirely and very strictly shut down, so no sheet most people either fall into that category or are claiming they do. If you're trying to generalize this to a non-lockdown population that is a massive case of selection bias. 3) 67% of hospital cases in NY being people "mostly" staying at home should terrify people. For all the pros/cons lockdown absolutely undeniably reduces spread in the short term. That's clear if you look at Sweden vs the rest of Scandinavia. The fact that this is virulent enough to still hit that many people who claim to mostly be staying at home, while still flirting with overwhelming the hospital systems of the area is possibly the greatest "pro lockdown extension" argument you could make. There are plenty of reasonable arguments to make against extending lockdowns man. You don't need to keep throwing out weak or disingenuous numbers to make your point. It just makes you look silly.

May 11, 20205 yr Quote WASHINGTON, May 11 (Reuters) - The White House has directed staff working in the West Wing, where the daily operations of President Donald Trump's administration are carried out, to wear masks at all times in the building, except when they are at their own desks, a senior administration official confirmed on Monday. better really, really, really f'n late than never.

Exactly, despite political and cultural differences countries all around the world are having lengthy shutdowns just like us. Many of theirs are even longer and more rigid. So yeah, we aren't doing it to oust Trump. He already buried himself when it comes to covid-19 anyway.

May 11, 20205 yr 4 hours ago, DBW said: The question is, how do we go back to normal life and protect those high risk communities at the same time? Whether we open today or two months from now, are those communities at any less risk? What have we really done with the 2 months of lockdown that has protected any of them? They’re still getting sick and still firing at an alarming rate compared to the younger, healthier people obviously. We haven’t and won’t eradicate the virus by locking down for 2 more or even 6 more months. You could argue that by staying locked down we don’t run the risk of asymptomatically carrying the virus to our elders in those homes and you’d be right but I would argue that in another 6 months, you run the same risk of that versus today. that’s why We need to be more conscious of our actions and our decisions to go into those places and protocols should be in place to prevent this or any other disease from entering those facilities. But the fact is, those places have never been great in terms of keeping illness out. Look at any given flu season (not comparing covid to flu) and you see how easily that gets in and runs wild, killing many. So yeah this is worse if it gets in but again, another 6 months of isolation isn’t going to eradicate covid. It’s here to stay. I still worry about some of my family that's in those communities 32 minutes ago, DEagle7 said: I got a google phone upgrde like a month before this sheet started that went from fingerprint recognition to face recognition. Not all nursing homes are equal. Under funded, under staffed, over populated, neglected and many of the nurses at these places aren’t qualified or even certified to be doing some of the things they do. I will never let my kids put me in a place like that. I’ll die at home on my own bed thanks.
