Classic Kz.

Different strains of the virus. Strain in New York came through Europe. Strain in CA came directly from China.

LMAO, it came to NY from Europe via China, but that's beside the point. The point is these people spent months breathlessly explaining how racist it is to use the virus's country of origin as a name. Now clownshoes calls it the "Europe Virus?" LMAO so stupid.

I don't know exactly how it works but I did read last week there are multiple strains of the same virus and that's how they track back where they came from.

The New York outbreak was traced back to Italian tourists. It's stupid to try to call it European or Chinese. It's covid-19 regardless of where the carrier came from. This was probably Cuomo trying to needle Trump.

Well crap. That sucks. Do they think it at least it originated in China and the mutated in Europe?

I don’t blame you and I would worry about them even when this goes away.  Not all nursing homes are equal.  Under funded, under staffed, over populated, neglected and many of the nurses at these places aren’t qualified or even certified to be doing some of the things they do.  I will never let my kids put me in a place like that.  I’ll die at home on my own bed thanks.

I had a stubborn one that actually moved into a senior community during this last month. They were in quarantine for 2 weeks before they were able to move around the place. Everyone in the family said they shouldn't move during this time but they are extremely stubborn. I was surprised those communities were even accepting newcomers.

he's doing it to mock & get a rise out of cheeto...as if that's not obvious.

Apparently, get a rise out of Trump = get a rise out of Kz.

Yep, that's absolutely what is most important right now. And how does that excuse his obvious racism? Or was saying the "chinese virus" was racist actually just BS the entire time?

lmao, yeah, making light of a pandemic to agitate a world leader is totally appropriate.

you're arguing thoughts in your own head again.

It's no more or less appropriate than calling it the Chinese Virus.

Yeah - they won’t turn away the money.  Hopefully they stay safe and healthy.

Right. So is Cuomo promoting racism and encouraging hate crimes on those of European descent by saying it like liberals told us Trump was when he said "Chinese virus" or was it all just BS from the start?

You don't really have to answer, we both already know.

lmao

Cuomo reversed his administration's terrible nursing home policy. Good move, but shouldn't have taken this long.

I don't know about the racist angle (I'll let people like you who obsess over race figure that out), but it's stupid in both cases, since in both cases it's being done for political purposes and to shift blame while we're in, you know, a pandemic, and people are tuning in for life saving information.  It's terrible leadership from terrible leaders.

Daily update

https://www.nothingbutthetruthmd.com/2020/05/51120-covid-19-update.html

Good evening,
NECESSARY PREPARATION OF THE PUBLIC MIND has not been adequate enough to popularize and ensure sufficient compliance with safe living practices (wearing a mask, hand hygiene and physical distancing when possible)  to significantly diminish the effects of the virus.  Despite world wide evidence that such mitigation efforts are in fact effective, we are floundering and appear rudderless.  Shameful!!

Privileges and Immunity Certification

The dichotomy of the public's readiness to accept, without evidence, antibody testing, while not wholeheartedly embracing safe living practices is maddening.  I place the blame squarely on leadership, at all levels, for failing to prepare the public for what needs to be done.

Several countries have indicated that they will implement certificates that a person has contracted and recovered from Covid-19 (or in the futures has received effective vaccination).

Such policies have been preliminarily discussed in the United States.

A "certificate program" would be unparalleled.  Currently Covid-19 is not vaccine preventable.  Vaccine development is probably a year away and the effectiveness of such a vaccine is unknown. A vaccine that could reduce the sequelae of Covid-19 to that of the common flu would be wonderful.  A vaccine that, in combination with mitigation, would reduce infectivity to a level where eradication might be possible would be welcomed.  The conditioned privileges might include a greater range of fundamental civil liberties and opportunities, for example freedom to work, worship, gather, educate and to travel.

Current levels of understanding of the virus and potential protection from an immune response to infection are rudimentary.  Is there protection, to what antibody, at what level and for how long are questions that must be answered. (not to mention what test best to utilize)

It would be prudent to have clearer scientific understanding to inform any public or private policy on the initiation of a "certificate program".  In the current environment of disorganized, fragmented leadership, such prudence is an uncommon commodity.

The likelihood of an evidence based approach to policy making appears to be overrun by the hype, the hope, the lack of coordinated direction and the demand for antibody testing.  Antibody tests are proliferating.  The FDA, struggling in its expected leadership role (after a chaotic start to diagnostic testing) initially announced that antibody tests could be manufactured without prior approval so long as users receive appropriate disclaimers. How moronic!  What is the chance that a manufacturer (an entity trying to make a profit) would inform the user (that would be John Q public) of the limitations and shortcomings of its product?

The FDA recently amended its stance to permit pre-approval distribution by commercial manufacturers while seeking FDA approval.  Under this permissive approach, dozens of unproven tests, many manufactured in other countries, are now available and being marketed aggressively on an unsuspecting public  Hoping to get you to spend your money before they are removed from the market.

The surge in the availability of these useless tests will meet huge demand by people eager to learn, what these tests can't tell them, at this time. A cottage industry has developed for qualitative tests which will never provide you with any useful information.  How long will it take to determine whether antibodies are protective, which antibodies, at what level and for how long?  This might take six months to a year.  Many true experts believe that the antibody, if protective, will last less than a year.

The danger to all of this testing is self certification.  The misguided, mistaken idea that the positive antibody tests, even with high titres, is protective, resulting in reckless behavior.  What if the antibody is protective, as an anesthesiologist, performing high risk procedures,  do I stop using PPE.  If so, do I wear signs warning others that my behavior is not reckless "I am protected?"

You will be glad to know that the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES) requires public and private insurers to pay for all professional SARS-CoV-2 testing and reimburse hospitals for testing uninsured patients.  That money printer is running non-stop paying for useless tests that provide useless information to an unsuspecting public abetted by undisciplined providers.  The only beneficiaries are the unscrupulous.

It definitely originated in China and hasn’t mutated... yet. However they can tell through the genome where an infected person got it from.

That actually looks like a bar near me lol.

Disneyland is open in china but not in the USA.  Is that ironically annoying or what?

The president of cognitive decline just walks out in the middle of a press conference. How embarrassing.

A doctor spoke on abc news this morning and was asked what he has learned so far with treatment of covid patients and the one thing he mentioned is not rushing to put them on ventilators.

i thought that was interesting considering how getting more of these super expensive ventilators was  such a top priority early on.

I read something on that and saved the link, but then forgot where I saved it at.  The article mentioned that some doctors think that using ventilators so quickly exasperated the issue, because what kills patients is inflammation of the lungs.  I'll have to look for that article again.

Except nothing seems to be avoidable, only delayed. Which was the basis of the lockdown.

Delayed has value.  Lots of value.  You saw the clusterF of the entire world trying to get the equipment all at the same time.  Imagine that under multiple cities going up like NY.  The second wave will be less deadly because we are already stockpiled and learning more about it each day.  But it will still spread like wildfire.

Yet another clinical hydroxychloroquine trial completed and it's showing no effects on patients other than increased rates of cardiac arrest.

Are we just going to pretend that less than a month ago Trump, Gooliani, and the entirety of Fox News weren't screaming for people to take hydroxychloroquine?

More importantly, no new deaths in the city of Philadelphia today, as reported by CBS Radio.
