was there an old guy poster named green&mean...or something like that?  it might have been him. if so, my bad.  anyway, dr philly is one of you!

Green&mean still around?

I know he was having health problems before I got banned.

Once he told me that someone said he looked like Milton from Office Space and I never was able to get that out of my head.  Lol

Not sure if he saw these boards.

As of 5 hours ago he was still posting radical left memes on facebook.

What percentage of the non nursing home population (since apparently they aren't citizens anymore) is the acceptable lockdown death percentage I wonder?

It's a bad situation all around. Protecting the most vulnerable was an utter failure nationwide.

Policymakers do have to weigh and balance both sides. What are the acceptable amount of deaths caused by a lockdown against those caused by easing it?

I don't see how we stop the spread without herd immunity or a vaccine even with social distancing measures.

speaking of missing posters, i found djbigf on disqus.  i think it's more of a thing to comment on articles...so idk if there's any way to message people on there...so i can't invite him here.

4000 deaths sound horrible but based on 2016 statistics, 368 people die every day in Pennsylvania.

Not really an answer to my question. What percentage is acceptable? I'll forget about the nursing home part. Just what percentage total of the population dying is the percentage where lockdown is acceptable as a means of controlling the virus?

I think the governors have the power to lockdown everything but not to be able to pick and choose what can and can't stay open. Either shut it all down or give guidelines and let the individuals decide.

Why?  Some things are inherently more dangerous/more susceptible to spreading infection than others.  Obviously concerts/sporting events should be on a different timeline than something like a restaurant.  Why shouldn't the governors be selective to help keep the spread mitigated?

The Constitution?

Well where's the Constitutional distinction between locking everything down for a few weeks and selectively choosing certain events/businesses that are safer for the public and putting them on different timelines?  If one's unconstitutional than so is the other.

Main point is solid. Concerts and sporting events have to be way down the line.

Problem currently is why are we trusted to flock to Walmart and Target daily but a small clothing store that could install the same distancing measures is closed.

Also, Wolf just faced pressure to remove the waiver for his former business. There is a cabinet business near me thats been shuttered for months. No regulation on these guys currently.

Amendment 14, equal protection clause. If you can operate a liquor store safely you should be able to operate a Church or a vacuum repair shop safely and it's been more than a few weeks.

the decision to lock down made sense...people are incapable of making the right decision to stay at home unless they're made to do so....and some still can't/won't do it.  governors had to act very quickly. i know in pa, they put out a list of types of businesses & which would be able to stay open. it was a long list...but still rather vague. but i think they had like a day to put that together...so of course it won't be perfect. and yeah, it started the "what do you mean i'm not essential!" backlash. idk how that could have been avoided when a plan had to be put together so quickly. of course, some mistakes were made along the way...but the general directive to stay the f at home so this virus doesn't spread was the right decision, imo.

Two different points here.  Walmart and Target sell groceries.  So that's why they're essential and a clothing store isn't.  Is it fair?  Sort of.  Does it suck for the small clothing business?  Absolutely, but if they were a small grocery store, they'd be open.

I don't know anything about Wolf or whatever's going on in PA, but cronyism is unfortunately always a problem.  We still have to utilize a system with public health in mind when we choose which stores are opened and which remain closed.  Just because there's cronyism and corruption in the process doesn't mean we throw the doors wide open and invite the spread of the virus.

So a plan, once in place, can't be revisited and updated after said day of preparation if mistakes were made?

Also, remedying the archaic unemployment systems to help those who haven't received funds seems to be low on the list.

I think it's the opposite. Sure you have some jerks who never listen but I see people driving around in their cars by themself with masks and gloves on and people giving dirty looks if you stand to close or walk by them. The media has everyone freaked out.

who said that?

of course things are revisited & updated as situations change. pa has the whole yellow areas, red areas, etc. thing going on now.  changes have been made along the way, no???

Equal protections are being violated either way.  If you put everything in lockdown, you're obviously not going to close essential services (police, fire, EMT's especially, grocery stores, drug stores, etc.).  You're doing so because some services are in the interests of public's heath and some aren't.  Choosing to allow a restaurant to open while not allowing a concert to take place is no different.

Liquor store and vacuum repair shop should be treated equally, since they're essentially the same system: customer's come in, buy what they need, then leave.  It can be done in an orderly fashion and with proper distancing.  Church is a different story.  It's about a lot of people gathering in a room together.

idk, man. my employer's first reaction to the shutdown was to look for loopholes to allow us to stay open....and there's very little "essential" in what we do.

a lot of people are taking it seriously but a lot of others aren't...they're the ones putting everyone at risk.

its a no win situation for any governor really. im not even trying to harp on wolf, was just asking to get a feel for how people feel he's doing with this crisis. I just hoping we can all look back at this and be better prepared down the road when another global event like this happens again.

but seriously wolf, sign the weed bill. it's the only green initiative that should be looked at during these trying times.

I think wolf is doing a decent job. I like that he is sticking to the plan and following through on what he thinks is best. However, I think he should of taken a little more time to sort out the real problem areas because his map of when certain areas opening up before others  doesnt make any sense.

Either way even when these counties open up it's not truly opening. Still have to wear masks, still have to limit how many people can be in your establishment still need social distancing. So small businesses are still going to feel the struggle open or not cause some of those places aren't just going to get flooded with customers right away.

So these counties even though it sucks need to just stick with the plan. Hopefully the funding that wolf claims to have set aside to help these buisnesses when this is over comes through.

Opening when you are not supposed to guarantees he isn't going to help you. So do what he says and then if he doesn't help then raid his damn house lol.
