It's the same subject. Either certain matters are important enough that they should require the approval of a supermajority, or they're not.

I know you think you got me here, but you don't. One can entertain two thoughts at once on this subject. I already said, I hate that Democrats suck at voting, but if you don't think the Republicans strategically put this on a local primary ballot because they knew the numbers wouldn't be so favorable in the midterms, you're lying to yourself.

That's simply false.

The vaccines reduce viral load, which significantly improves survival rates for ALL age groups.

Having the vaccine is like having a pitcher that automatically reduces the opposition's batting average by .300. It doesn't guarantee that the other team never gets a hit, but it sure as hell reduces the likelihood by a wide margin.

My BAA against is .002

Your vaccine is going to take me to .001

It is statistically insignificant to my survivability.

Funny how everyone is jumping on the fat bandwagon, even though I'm the only one of you Fs who has does anything for his situation besides getting jabbed. I have literally chronicled my weight loss in this very thread with fuhking PICTURES, from borderline "obese" to "average" on BMI range.

You all are embarrassing. You've got vikas who will always be shorter than my grandmother and the rest of you are undoubtedly overweight. Guess who isn't, anymore? Keep it up, I use your insults as motivation.

Nah, I don't really care. I just find it surprising that people actually still approve of the government being able to complete halt all economic activity at the whim of a single person. Especially after all we now know about the virus and the effects of locking down.

case fatality rate is 0.1-0.2% for 20-40 year olds, or thereabout. the vaccine reduces it to near zero.

the more people who get the vaccine, the lower the risk of exposure, so yeah overall your risk of dying from COVID has dropped significantly - mainly because enough people around you who AREN'T selfish twats have done the responsible thing and gotten vaccinated, helping to break the chain of infection.

but whatever, you do you. I'm over it.

What do you think about broad emergency powers for Governors in general?  This isn't the only one.  There's plenty of instances (natural disasters, terrorist threats, etc.) where once they've declared a state of emergency their granted fairly wide reaching authority, untethered by the legislature.

So it limits the power of the governor and gives it to a larger group of elected officials, so that the insane amount of power has to be approved by more than one person before it can be wielded. Gee, that sounds terrible. Riot Kitchen whining about this is another great example of his moderation.

there already was recourse for the legislature to limit emergency powers of a governor. they are just mad they didn't have the votes.

so they opted to change the rules instead.

this isn't your father's Republican party.

Yup, that's how it is with this party anymore. They're all about playing by the rules until it doesn't suit them anymore. Bunch of f***ing clowns.

What the fack do you think 0.2% is IF NOT NEAR ZERO??!?!??!!

YOU are selfish. Demanding other people cater to YOUR unhealthy lifestyle.

You are conflating numerical with statistical data, which is misleading. You are either arguing in bad faith or clinging to a fallacy.

Also, quite the dirty trick to put Constitutional Amendment proposals on an off-year primary ballot. Republicans knew that the turnout heavily skews in their favor for local primaries. Now, yeah, I hate that Democrats absolutely suck at getting to the polls, and ultimately it's on them, but it doesn't change the fact that PA Republicans are monumental scumbags sacrificing the health and wellbeing of Pennsylvanians to score political points with their braindead base.

All of the years I lived in PA, I was registered "No Affiliation". I had no reason to be at a primary election, other than to vote for ballot questions. When I showed up to the polling place, there was a line for Republicans and a line for Democrats. Imagine the surprise of the election workers when I showed up! They didn't know where to put me.

There were probably also a ton of independents who didn't even realize they could vote and didn't show up.

Also, so much for the secret ballot.

I don't know what policies and procedures are in place now... This was back before electronic ballots, and they had to go through binders full of names to look up your registration. They had it organized so all the Republican books were at one table, the Democrats were at another. At least they weren't prepared for many Independents! They told me to go to shortest line, then they had to go in back to find binder with the Independent/Third Party registrations.

I haven't been following the exchange, but it appears you're saying that .2% is "near zero,"  but when you're dealing with sample sizes in the millions, if not hundreds of millions, an incidence of .2% is not anywhere close to numerical zero.

Hundreds of millions of people between the ages of 20-40?!?!?!

there aren't even 90M people in the U.S. in that age range!  How could you have hundreds of millions of people in that age range catch COVID?!?!?!

And you're saying that until the death count reaches 0, you're not going out of your basement, not socially gathering, not returning to society...??

Interesting, since you've got people that ARE VACCINATED AND DYING *OF* COVID.  "Of", right?  Or is it "with", now???  I'm confused. I checked with the CDC and, whelp, they're confused, too.

Pfizer, BioNTech make huge pledge to address COVID vaccine inequality

Pfizer (PFE.N) and BioNTech (22UAy.DE) pledged on Friday to deliver 1 billion doses of their COVID-19 vaccine to poorer nations this year and another 1 billion next year, the boss of Pfizer said.

The pledge could significantly address the unequal distribution across the world of COVID-19 vaccines, which have so far been sold disproportionately more to richer countries.

"Pfizer and BioNTech are pledging to provide 2 billion doses of our COVID-19 vaccines to middle- and low-income countries over the next 18 months," Albert Bourla told a global health summit.

Bourla said that low-income countries would be offered the vaccines at cost, while middle-income nations would pay about half the price of wealthier nations, which are estimated to have paid around 20 dollars per dose.

"We expect to provide 1 billion of these doses to low- and middle-income countries this year. And we pledge to deliver another 1 billion doses to these countries in 2022," Bourla said.
