If you research the topic you'll come across the written directives from the WHO and CDC mandating how corona deaths are to be reported.......the numbers are bogus!! Just wait until the so-called wave two comes, you're really gonna be scared sheetless when they flash 160,000 death in one month, no need to worry though, they'll be bogus also. Not only that, hospitals and financial incentives to report corona cases, 18,000 a pop just for treating a corona case and 36,000 a pop if a ventilator is used, now ask yourself, why haven't you heard this on CNN? Info from an actual doctor on another forum I follow who's been very informative during the last few months. https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/the-official-coronavirus-containment-thread/page/283#post-5651854

Do you know how many cases of Zika occurred in the entire US in 2016 as a result of getting bit by an infected mosquito? 207 cases (4% of the total). 95% of cases in the US were from people who got infected overseas.https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/67/wr/mm6709a1.htm In reference to Zika and h1n1, I’m talking about the way the media tried instill fear in everyone, how it was talked about as the next plague, how the world was gonna end, not the number of sick people. They tried their damndest to make us all panic back then. We didn’t because we saw through it. Is corona bad? Yeah it is. Is it justifiable to stop living, put 35 million people on unemployment, cause hundreds of thousands of businesses to go bankrupt and close permanently, ending people’s careers they’ve built and dedicated their lives to? Is the panic worth all that? I’m saying no. I’m not saying the virus isn’t real or that we shouldn’t have shut down while we got it under control, etc. it all got way out of hand. The fear mongerers succeeded with turning this into apocalyptic proportions and like many people I have had enough. funny that reports are showing that areas that are open are showing little to nk increase in new cases while areas that remain close continue to climb.

It was silly to even reference Zika or H1N1. You are comparing grapes to watermelons. Have I said we should be in indefinite lockdown? No. As I’ve said for weeks now, there’s no reason why we can’t open things back up IF everyone wears a mask in public spaces, maintains physical distance where practical, and practices good hang hygiene.

See you people say it's not as bad as they make it seem then follow it up with something even worse then what they are saying. It's not as bad as the stuff you are trying to say is happening because of what they are doing either. We aren't cooped up anymore things are opening up we just have to wear masks.

First off, I’m not "you people” and secondly, Not everywhere is open and even areas that are, not everything is open. Like retail stores are "open” for curbside pickup which I don’t know if you have experience it yet but imagine retail associates on Black Friday and inject hem with coronaroids. I went 2 places today and was greeted with angry and annoyed workers who instead of being happy to be able to work are annoyed with the entire process and taking it out the consumers. Restaurants are open for take out mostly and those that open are limited to 30% fire code capacity which means that servers who rely on tips to make a living can expect a HUGE reduction in their potential income, and sure people may tip heavier for local establishments out of kindness but many people can’t afford to eat out anymore after being laid off. Small business like dog groomers, hair salons, mom&pop gyms are already done and out of business. You see it’s not about what’s open now, it’s about what won’t open and what won’t get back and what’s irreparable due to a short 2 month lock down.
May 18, 20205 yr When a quarter of a million Americans are dead will some of you still be saying it is just the flu?

I work in retail I know exactly what is going on with that end of it. I'm in one of the counties that is still in the red and we have none of that going on. As a matter of fact we have a lot of business owners that rather stay closed instead of having to half arse open and pay employees and for the up keep of their buisnesses just to serve a few dozen people that still doesn't help pay to stay open. A few said they rather be poor then dead. Second we are aggravated and tired of arsehole customers being ignorant to us because they don't like what the government is doing. It isn't our faults these are government regulations take it up with them. 3rd we are also sick of working are arses off for basic pay while people that are laid off are getting unemployment and 600 bucks extra a week on top of it to sit at home and yet they still piss and moan about wearing a mask for five minutes to buy some groceries.

Fair enough. I’ll say that I used to work retail as well and I can empathize with what you’re saying. All I did was pull up and tap the link on the app. What I got wasn’t necessity but I felt like I was more of an inconvenience than usual. I get it though. Another reason small businesses would rather stay closed is that if they CAN be open and decide to be, they have to pay their employees and if they lay them off, the UC falls on their insurance rather than the gov. They will hide behind the "safety of our employees” line but reality is it’s a numbers issue. They can’t afford to pay the UC at 30% capacity. They have to pay to keep the lights on which means reducing staff which means they pay the UC. That’s why a lot of small businesses walked away. I’ve had 2 of my customers close their doors. It’s very sad and completely avoidable.

The kid at the front who sanitizes the carts and makes sure people are coming in with masks simply said to the guy " we will be closing soon" The guy goes completely ballistic on this kid rips his mask off ( his own) and gets within an inch of the kids face and just absolutely goes off on him cursing and screaming. So the night manager came over and asked what the problem was and this guy gets in his face screaming and cursing and threatening to beat the crap out of him. It gets better!! The guy storms off drives to the owner of the companies house slams on his door and gets in his face and screams at him!! All because we told him we were closing soon and all he was doing was returning a movie to the Redbox. Like wtf!!

My area has been doing something for seniors graduating like sending them gifts and what not since they really aren't supposed to be having graduation parties. Like I mentioned earlier though I saw a house with about 20 cars parked in the yard and as I got closer I saw a cop pull in with the lights flashing. So I slowed down to be a nosey effer and saw him at the door and pointing at all the cars and what not so I'm pretty sure he was letting them know they can't be having the party.

I don't care who wins your pissing contest with each other, but this is an interesting angle to take considering the conversation was about excess deaths. To bring proper context to an analysis of excess deaths, it would be incredibly important to know roughly "how many would've died anyways." If a few months from now we suddenly have a situation where the expected excess was well below expectations or even in a death deficit position, you can then lean on the "woulda died" statistics for context. It doesn't mean they don't count and I don't want to speak for DrPhilly, but it really didn't seem like that's the direction he was taking. Of course they count, but it's also extremely valuable data to have.

I think Zika was scary to people because if a woman got bit by a Zika-infected mosquito while pregnant it could damage the baby in the womb. But Zika, as far as I know, isn't passed from human to human. Early on they weren't sure Corona was either - I think it's safe to say that question has been answered now. There's a reason this current pandemic keeps getting compared to the Spanish Flu of 1918-19. Because it has the potential to be as destructive.
