Yeah, they will still get the occasional hit, but you're going to win the vast majority of the time.

July 23, 20214 yr Beware of the very small sample size, but these numbers from DC's health dept show a roughly 2x-3x higher rate of breakthrough infections with J&J vs Pfizer/Moderna.

I posted in the blog yesterday, I am glad I got Moderna. It is like a good shut down corner, you never hear about it, and that is a good thing.

I'm surprised it's only 2-3x. Got to be honest, makes me feel good about the J&J regardless. That's roughly 1 person infected for every 1,000 who get the shot. Moderna/Pfizer are clearly better but J&J is really getting trashed for doing a great job.

Without knowing how many unvaccinated cases were reported in the same time frame, it's hard to discern overall efficacy since exposure risk could vary wildly. But yeah, even with these numbers, it's clear that it's still a very effective vaccine to have at our disposal. Probably the biggest benefit is the ability to offer single shots at pop-up locations like at a place of business, concerts, sporting events, etc.

I'm curious what their clinical trials are saying about a second dose of J&J.

I also know trials are going on with mixing the vaccines. All indications are that it's perfectly safe but the CDC won't be approving that for a bit. I'd go get a Pfizer boost now if I could.

Technically the FDA grants approvals, and ACIP (CDC) provides recommendations. But you could still talk to you doctor about getting a single dose of Pfizer on top of your J&J dose. I'm seeing this recommending by a lot of immunologists, which leads me to believe it's not so much a regulatory issue.

My wife is a huge Ludacris fan, so I'll no doubt be going to that one, too. That is of course if the Delta variant doesn't get me before then! I grew up listening to Ludacris, but never saw him in concert. But 3 years ago he performed at the NY State Fair so we went to that and it was surprisingly good for a free concert that probably lasted an hour.

I think *knocks on wood* COVID would be more of an inconvenience to me than something that would make me gravely ill at this point. Considering the vaccine, my fitness level and my age.

The reason this is upsetting is because governments feel compelled to spare idiots from feeling the consequences of their ignorance. Because so many morons won't get vaccinated, they are bringing back mask mandates and the like to save imbeciles from themselves. It is the exact wrong thing to do -- they should allow insurers to deny coverage for COVID to anyone who is unvaccinated. But since government seemingly exists to shield idiots from any consequences, we are all inconvenienced and businesses suffer.

Given the data so far you would seem to be at a very very low risk of having anything at all other than a mild cold regardless of the level of case outbreak.

I just don't feel like going back and forth with one of the idiots about it. Of course everyone should get vaccinated. There are people literally on hospital beds saying they will still refuse vaccines. We're screwed.

Yeah, people at risk and really old people (guess Toaster fits that one) are the ones who should consider remaining cautious and also looking for that booster. I'm with Vikas here in that at some point it is up to everyone to be vaccinated and if you insist on not getting a vaccination then you are the one responsible for whatever risk that entails.
