I believe the administration knew this. Once he got serious about it I do think there were many many folks who reacted professionally and competently to get things going as to what we needed. Namely the military ships, cleaning out the stock pile, and having a plan on how to get PPE and ventilators distributed. Again, we were not granted a sense of calm, or anything like that, but behind the scenes of the biased media, ish was getting done. Think about what you're saying here. He spent week after week downplaying the severity of the virus while people died and infections rose. Why? Why did he take so long? What benefit to the American people did it have to pretend it wasn't a problem until it was too late? It's completely inexcusable and it cost American lives. I'm glad that "once he got serious" things happened, but by then the virus had spread and the country had no choice but to go into near-complete lockdown.

PA unemployment, for instance, is a disaster and far from Trump.

Mass early testing would've given us a chance to get out in front of the virus, traced it, and selectively quarantined where needed. Instead, he called in a hoax, said it would magically disappear and generally did nothing for two months. China's early lies put action off for a couple weeks....but once it was discovered how serious it was Trump still had week after week after week to jumpstart early action and he did nothing, because he was worried about the politics of taking it seriously. He completely failed the American people. Literally any other President would have done more, because no other President in history has solely focussed on "winning" the day's media cycle. His handling of this will cost him a 2nd term and his sanity. He seems to be losing it mentally. But it also cost so many lives and so many jobs. We are all going to pay. but i wouldnt say any other president would have got it right. I have no faith in anyone in DC and they are all equally capable of f’ng up a pandemic situation. can you imagine how miserable a person trumps going to be when he loses and everyone stops following his tweets and talking about him in the news? Its going to be pathetic.

Once he got serious, he... - Promoted a drug that doesn't work and had the government buy millions of doses because Laura Ingraham pushed it - Told people to inject bleach - Mocked governors for seeking help from the Federal government - Blamed the prior administration for not leaving tests for a virus that wasn't discovered until 2019 Yeah, I preferred when he didn't take it seriously.

Well there's no one else that has (or ever will have) the capabilities to handle a national pandemic. It's completely out of the grasp of any private organization to control something so widespread. So, we're going to have to have a government that is responsible enough to do it, or else we'll get the same result. One thing we know for sure is that Trump isn't up to the task.

If he is such the genius he should have had things rolling at the beginning of Feb! Thing is, we can't go back, and the whole argument gets old. It happened, we are where we are. I'm not going to keep touting how wrong everything went. I'd rather keep moving forward...….competently if that's possible?
May 20, 20205 yr The failure of this government at every level is amazing. In the worst way. There are third world countries doing better than we are.

Trump is unique in his obsession with the news cycle. He thinks as long as he wins that day, he doesn't need a long term strategy. But that caught up to him in this case.

The leadership of POTUS is directly related to the effectiveness of any policy that is enacted and the effectiveness impacts saving lives. Governors come up with their own state coronavirus policies and regulations so Trump is moot and far removed. We all now he says dumb stuff like the virus will disappear. Most tune him out and follow rules because it's the smart thing to do.

Yes we know, but again, can we move forward. What do you expect? Really? This government isn't going anywhere until November so we're stuck with it. We have our voices though. I want to believe the smart medical people will work along side the political ones, and lets get some real data, real answers, and get past this. I realize it won't happen over night. I'm just so tired of going backwards. This sort of statement gets us NO WHERE!

So, obviously looking forward isn't going to happen with this administration.

POTUS is POTUS and is a unique position to impact everything. It is very very clear how much the country suffers in a situation like this when the leadership is so poor and divisive. He impacts people every single day.

I expect that what the government is doing for itself, testing, quarantine, contact tracing, it can do for the public. That is won't disturbs me. I write my elected officials.
