I'll never understand why people can't comprehend that business owners can absolutely make you wear a mask. Boggles my mind.

Testing, they didn't get up to speed until early May This was a direct result of having no plan. Without testing there is no tracing and without tracing you are slow to react. This was a direct result of that production capacity being overseas. 1 hour ago, dawkins4prez said: 2. Getting the masks, respirators etc. Again, they were almost 2 months late with this, causing a clusterF throughout March and parts of April as hospitals did not have what they needed. Also a direct result of reacting late. They should have had a game plan in action by mid March. 3. Failing to get ahead of the lockdowns. Trump did not issue guidelines for lockdowns until after the cities and private corporations had already done so. There was zero federal leadership at this crucial point on how to go about it. That led directly to more f ups from the states who do not have the pandemic expert teams the White House has. 4. Communicating information. Trump's misinformation matters. It is probably the most important thing your government does in this situation, provide official information. He has downplayed the virus, sold miracle cures, downplayed the importance of mitigation behavior. These things matter, a lot and while the first 3 screwed us for the 1st waves this one will screw us hard during the 2nd. These are tangible things Trump Fed up on. The dates of the F up are well documented. You are trying to say "nothing happened here" because they are up to date on testing now and they are up to date on equipment now. Being aTrump fan requires the memory of a goldfish apparently. And you also want to take this argument as quickly as possible, before the irresponsible talk leads to surges in red states, which is absolutely on the verge of happening. This entire thing has been a mess. But novel infectious agents will do that. Play books, response teams, funding and everything else being politically thrown about would have little effect. A more tempered leader would have made for a better tone, but the outcome would have been similar.

There are countries that handled this differently and got much better results, so clearly our government wasn't powerless to stop it. Unfortunately, that's not what happened. The administration failed us. It's okay to acknowledge that obvious fact.

Who knows. I for one am willing to give leadership a LOT of leeway in making mistakes under these circumstances, but only if they are genuinely trying. Trump didn't want to be perceived as trying, to this day he thinks that doing as little as possible sends a message that nothing is going on so that people will get back to work... But I have been adamant in saying that Trump's direct death culpability is going to come here in the 2nd wave. Tethering his brand to defiance of social distancing and not wearing masks is absolutely 100% going to cause direct deaths as we reopen.

Yeah that checks out. I feel as if the beach towns have become a lot more built up over the past 10-20 years but even a little off the beaten path and it gets awful Deliverence-y awful fast.

While I agree that a novel virus is going to challenge any playbook, it's also not as though we've never experienced a novel virus in the past. There are things to learn from in what to do and what not to do, and playbooks - like the one that Obama's team left and Trump ignored - help to inform competent leadership as they navigate some of the unknowns.

One of the items I needed was a 5" full cone bezel for the lights I'm putting in downstairs. I need 19, currently have 16. Checked every home depot and lowed in the area and nothing. (I'm actually worried they are phasing out 5" Halo recessed lighting cans and bezels, it seems to be all 6" and a few 4" ones anymore) Found a electric and lighting supplier in Georgia that has them for 3-4 dollars less than lowed and ships free. Ordered 19 and taking the rest back to Lowes when they arrive.

You are comparing two countries that have mass production facilities in country and very different cultures that provided distinct advantages. You are making the same mistakes that everyone makes when comparing countries. Humans are not uniform across the world. Just stop.
