should we be worried that morey left the rockets in shambles?

He should have known Harden and Westbrook wouldn't work.

However,  it sends like the players most often control these things.  They recruit each other and seem to see things up for their team.

I'm not sure how much you can blame GMs for these mismatched star pairings these days.

Never thought I'd see Covington worth so much

2 firsts for Covington too?

And Chris Paul took a ton to get.  Trade market it wild right now.  Not looking good for the buyers.

It's almost like the picks this year have no value.

Sixers do need to get more athletic and think he would help. I would compare him as a Brandon Clarke type

Wow Bucks getting Bogdan in a sign and trade too.

that doesn't bode well for the Sixers on the Hield front.  He took Hield's starting job.

According to some reports the new owner pushed for Westbrook acquisition.  I  have faith Morey will do the right things like not giving up 3 first for Jrue.

heard on sirius nba radio that the rockets' culture is toxic af....players saying the front office didn't hold star players accountable...that's harden, btw....and it starts with morey...also how players don't like playing w/ harden.  idk how much truth there is to it but they seemed really down on both harden & morey.

the discussion was based on some article from the athletic.

A large chunk of the angst, however, stems from a lack of accountability, sources said. During the January locker room meeting following a home loss to Portland, Westbrook, who was leading the meeting, went around the room indicating what was wrong and what each player needed to do to fix the losing streak, starting with himself, sources said. When it came to Harden, however, he wasn’t as receptive to criticism as other teammates, sources said.

Well jeez just look at what House did in the bubble. No respect for his team. Reckless.

Yeah they've got issues.

I think it's more on a coach to establish culture though,  than a GM. Especially Morey, a pudgy white guy. They aren't going to respect him if he tries cracking down.  Brand has a shot but shouldn't be his job.

Morey might want to do the right things but,  he's basically in that same situation as he was with the rockets with ownership pushing crap on the gm

They don't

I don't know.  He's the president of bball operations here and I'm assuming Harris gave him assurances he'd be hands off here or I don't know that Morey would've agreed to come here.  We have a ton more experienced basketball minds from the coaching staff up to Morey now.  I'm a lot more confident now with this team doing the right things than I was under the collar's, BB, Elton, and other colangelo holdovers making decisions.

The problem with being a GM is, imagine Durant coming to you saying i want to play with Harden.

How are you going to explain and convince him it can't happen because you like LeVert and Dinwiddie, and Allen, and Harden with Kyrie is a terrible fit...

You say no, then you probably have Durant asking to get out soon to go wherever harden end up.

I just don't think GMs have power right now.  Players are dictating the moves.

gws2:

As i've mentioned many times over the past few months, Horford and Harris have negative value around the league and are not easy to move.
Sixers were not going to offer Josh Richardson plus multiple 1sts for Jrue. They are not in the same position as Milwaukee and Morey isnt dumb.
They are still talking with teams about smaller deals but unless they decide to trade Ben (dont see that right now) they arent going to get a big name player. Its easier to accept that now and wait for it to play out

Weird, who wouldn't like playing with a ball hog who doesn't play defense?

i don't know if i can watch another season of simmons refusing to shoot jumpshots. <_<  but i doubt they'll trade him.

i really hate to say this but harris has really screwed this team up for the future it's great to have to morey and doc rivers but it's too late, the damage is done. if harris pulled his head out of his butt and fired brett and kept butler, this team would be in much better shape. i dont think the greatest coaches on here are going to make any difference if the same players are just going to do what they want. this team is a mess. this team needs a complete roster shakeup, otherwise we are going to be the wizards.

running back last season's failure of a roster would be a bold move.

The gws "smaller deals", and foshbomb mike Scott to NYK sorta go hand in hand.

For the price teams are paying on the trade market right now we might get a first for him!

yup, but have to give the man time to work.

Unfortunately the knee jerk reaction to max Harris and bring in Horford on that contract hamstrings what they can do.  Still think they might be able to move Horford but I can't see them moving Harris.  All I really need from this offseason is more shooting and another ball handler.  If they can move Horford for some bloated shorter contracts for those type of players I'll take it.

It is looking that way

They gave Morey 10 million a year so one would hope he had full autonomy to do what he wants with the team.

Barring a Harden miracle they've seemed intent on running it back.  I've assumed we might see some trade deadline moves if it proves to be the disaster we already know it is.

As someone said Bucks trading for Bogdon it puts Buddy back in the starting role and lessens the chance of making that trade.

I have read the Kings want to blow it up for the 21 draft and you hope DiVincenzo gets all the minutes and they still trade Hield

Anyone interested in Hayward for Horford. Then sign him to an extension

Another ball handler and guy that can create his own shot.
