Didn’t Horford’s wife recently like a post about trade talks? Then they shipped him off to OKC. Wonder how she likes that.

everyone who watches the nba knows that you need to surround ben & jo with shooters.  brand surrounded them with horford & richardson.

morey is correcting those mistakes.

To get rid of Josh for a legit knock down shooter who is on the books for only 8 million a year for next three years is a steal. Seth maybe 30, but he doesn't have a lot of miles on his legs because he barely played the first couple years.

He was at 22 minutes per game last year and hit 45.2% on 5 attempts and think his minutes increase on this team to 27 to 29.

Brand doesn't make that trade.

I think she’s taking it well.

She’s looks way too much like Doc

Defense should be pretty good this year.  Embiid, Simmons, Green, Thybulle, Harris, Reed.

Number #1 winner on the Ringer @HazletonEagle are you less grumpy now lol

Winner: Philadelphia 76ers
Three big issues plagued the Sixers during their disappointing 2019-20 season: an offense-throttling logjam created by the ill-fated Joel Embiid–Ben Simmons–Al Horford triptych; an almost total absence of guards who could handle the ball, run a pick-and-roll, break down a defense off the dribble, and put some pressure on the rim; and an overall lack of viable perimeter shooting. In his first big night out after taking the reins as Philly’s new president of basketball operations, Daryl Morey set about addressing all three.

First, Morey did the heavy lifting, engaging with old pal Sam Presti and the rambunctiously rebuilding Thunder on a deal to jettison Horford. For the cost of a top-six-protected 2025 first-round pick (with declining protections in future years), Wednesday’s 34th overall pick, and the rights to Vasilije Micic, one of the better guards in Europe, Philly offloaded the final three years and $69 million still guaranteed on Horford’s contract. In return, the Sixers landed Danny Green, a 6-foot-6 3-and-D veteran with scads of championship experience fresh off a title run with the Lakers (and a brief stopover in Oklahoma following the Dennis Schröder deal). They also added Terrance Ferguson, a somewhat stalled prospect in Presti’s preferred draft mold (read: super athletic, long-limbed, jump shot that’s never quite panned out) who nonetheless helps bolster Philly’s wing depth and better balances a roster that was too thick in the middle and too thin everywhere else.

The draft board broke Philly’s way too, with a run on bigs and wings in the middle of the first round that left Tyrese Maxey—a feisty and tenacious scorer and point-of-attack defender who averaged 14 points per game as a freshman at Kentucky—in their laps. Maxey didn’t shoot the lights out in Lexington, making just 29.2 percent of his long balls, but his stronger free throw numbers (83.3 percent) show a smooth stroke, and his aggressiveness in getting into the paint and finishing in traffic will be a welcome addition to a Philly offense yearning for more playmaking and creation.

Then, as the first round bled into the second, Morey packaged shooting guard Josh Richardson—a big piece of the return from last summer’s Jimmy Butler sign-and-trade, but never quite a snug fit in Philly—along with the 36th pick and sent them to the Mavericks in exchange for Seth Curry, a certified spot-up sniper (44.3 percent shooting from beyond the arc for his career) on an absolute steal of a contract that will pay him just $24.5 million over the next three years. (He’s also Doc Rivers’s son-in-law, for what that’s worth.) You might recall that when the Sixers had JJ Redick’s elite floor-spacing to play off of and open the floor for Embiid and Simmons, they won 50-plus games in consecutive seasons, posting top-10 offenses in each on the strength of some of the best starting lineups in the league. That seems notable—as does the second-round addition of Isaiah Joe, a 6-foot-5 guard who jacked a wild 9.1 triple tries in 32.7 minutes per game over two seasons at Arkansas, drilling 37.8 percent of them. It appears there is a trend here.

There’s still more work to be done—more shooters to add, more space to create for Embiid and Simmons, more weapons to find for Doc to deploy. But in just a few hours, Morey went a long way toward not only balancing the roster, but making it make more sense around his two 26-and-under studs and building around his best pieces rather than trading them away on general principle. That constitutes a pretty good start to the new era, I think.

Not really liking the Curry trade. We gave up our starting SG and a draft pick for a backup SG. Did Docs daughter just want the family together and the FO said ok?

I saw that Curry has the second best 3 point percentage in league history only behind Steve Kerr. Which means he is arguably a better 3 point shooter than his brother. For every good game Richardson played he had about 10 bad ones. To get that spacing is vital and I like the move. I highly doubt they were going to be able to use all their picks this year so the draft pick was just a sweetener.

It's actually pretty funny because I work with a Mavs fan and he said he would be happy if they did nothing this off-season. I jokingly said 'maybe they trade Seth Curry' and half an hour later he is in Philly

I have been on the Maxey bandwagon for a while. Team has too many guys that are just good at one thing and Maxey being a guard that can handle the ball, slash, play good defense, break a man off the dribble, and not afraid of big moments ala his stats improved vs Top 15 teams.

He sounds like his ceiling could be Jimmy Butler. Has handles, plays great D and comes up in big moments without having a refined three point shot

Well the kid will put in the work for sure.  Seems like a well spoken/grounded kid.

I can't name one thing that Josh does well. He doesn't shoot at a high lvl from 3, his defense is average according to advanced metrics, he doesn't grab a ton of boards. He has a long wingspan that about it and if keep Ben then becomes a non issue of put Seth beside him

When he was with the Heat he was supposed to be an elite defender that could score. We saw that maybe once a month and most of the time he was getting roasted on the defensive end and was subpar offensively.

Maybe the change of scenery helps him get back to that, but I feel Curry at 8 mill for three years fits this team way better

Indifferent.

I can think of a ton of positives, and you can also put a negative spin on all of them.

Maxey was the worst decision of the night,  and he might end up as the best player of our night.

I'm excited about what some free agent additions can do for this team.  But then,  we may not sign any of the guys I'm hoping for.

Just have to wait and see how the roster looks by the start of the season.  See how much minutes some of these guys even play.  A lot still unknown.

Got rid of worst contract in the league for 2025 pick which team should still be good. Green is in final year of deal and is vet that can help lead the team

Got rid of a guy that can't shoot and won't resign replaced him with guy at the very least is the same player in Maxey and a legit 3 point shooter in Curry.

Got a 3 point shooter in Joe and a big who can back up either position in Reed and work on his game in the G League if that ever restarts.

Target

Harry Giles, DJ Augustin, Jeff Teague, Alec Burks, Justin Holiday, Noel, either Morris Brother, Wesley Matthews, Austin Rivers, Crowder, Josh Jackson, Jeff Green

I think Giles is a really good player and Kings were idiots not to pick up that option. Him and either DJ or Teague would be priorities for me.

Giles per 36 is 18ppg 10 rebounds, 2.3 offensive rebounds, 78FT% and shot 42% from 10 to 16 Feet so has a jumper. Giles was also the 2nd coming of Webber until he tore both his ACLs in high school and think it would be a good risk to go after him since he will be multiple years away from the tears.

After having a night to think about it, it's amazing the difference having a great executive can make. Morey basically undoing all of Brand's idiocy in one night at minimal cost.

Losing Reddick was the killer last year -- hopefully, Curry is a cheaper version of JJ.

[Carey] never forget that the Sixers got Tyrese Maxey because Mike Muscala went god mode in the last minute of a completely meaningless game played in an empty gym in Disney World

Seth is just as good shooter as JJ in my opinion, but hasn't really been given the minutes to show it fully. They are similar height and similar wingspan and have similar defensive and overall win share.

Seth Curry is a career 44.3% 3 Point shooter.....among the best in the league.

Ky Carlin: Isaiah Joe added that the team has not expressed any G League aspirations for him. It sounds like he will get a shot for some minutes right away. #Sixers –

Reading some of these responses makes my head hurt. How can you be negative about what just happened?

Al Horford was the worst contract I've seen in a sport in years. The fact that Brand was thanked by Morey last night ... most condescending, laughable thing ever. Like telling your 4 year old good job for wiping his own rear end. He got perimeter shooting and defense on an expiring contract? Perfect.

People worried about losing a 1st rounder in the NBA, especially for a playoff franchise? Um, ok. This isn't the NFL.

Curry? He's what they need. Another guy that doesn't need to touch the ball and can literally shoot from god levels.

I'm not sure Morey could have made better moves here. He basically just went out and got more talented Steve Kerr for Josh Richardson and cleared money for more talent.

I thought TATE was bad.

Which once again makes me ask why he got an extension when they had to undo most of his moves and it cost them a future first?
