Who was the guy the Sixers drafted in the first last year? How did he do overall in the end? I recall a positive start from what I read.

it was Mattise Thybulle.

He was ok for a late 1st round guy. But his best contribution to the league was his youtube vlogs in the bubble. 

Hes an OK 3 and D guy off the bench. Im not sure hes someone Ill ever want to see starting.

This is another example of why I feel GMs don't have a lot of say these days. 

If gws was right,  we had a done deal with Noel. Free agency hits,  and next thing you know we are signing Howard.

May not be a good choice.  Maybe Noel was better.  And if the ship crashes, it was the players steering it while Morey's name is attached. 

 

They botched the 2018 draft.  The 2017 draft was worse because they had #1 though.

Lakers weren't communicating with Howard. Being how he is, he probably more went to sixers out if spite then anything. 

I’m guessing when Howard suddenly became available the option of not using the MLE on the backup C was a big factor, of course that will only matter if they go on to use it

More like the Lakers never expected to get Harrell for 2/19 and thus never offered a deal to Howard. Howard > Noel

Morey has such an ego that I doubt he cares what two non winners care about

This. Why would you waste the MLE on Noel when you can get Howard for the vet min? It's a low risk signing that fills a need. I'm not Dwight's biggest fan, but it's a great signing.
