This. Why would you waste the MLE on Noel when you can get Howard for the vet min? It's a low risk signing that fills a need. I'm not Dwight's biggest fan, but it's a great signing.

He'll be in the G-League or traded as part of another deal to match salaries.

Noel coulda been a longer term signing.  He's still young. Now you need a verve again next season.

And he's a much better FT shooter at this point. I think he's in the 70s and Howard still in the 50s.

Howard will never play with Embiid so Simmons is going to pair with Howard a ton in lineups. Can you imagine those guys together? Teams will foul like crazy against that lineup.  It will be a struggle in close games.

Have you looked at the FA pool next year? It is absolutely loaded and why teams like Mavs, Heat, Warriors have not loaded up with long term Contracts. This is a marathon not a sprint.

I mean did you not think anyone would fact check the FT stat?

Noel shoots for his career 2.2 FT attempts and last 3 years have been all below 2 FT a game on average. Howard is a career 8.8 a game and his numbers have ranked last 3 years but still more than Noel at 7.2 5.3 and 3.1.

Basically FT is a worthless stat for these two and Howard absolutely is the better player and why would they play them together except in spot minutes

Your FT fact check isn't a fact check.  It's a separate stat that doesn't disprove what I said.

noel is a low b-ball iq having spazz...always has been.  howard on a 1 year vet min deal is absolutely a better situation for the sixers...better player on a much better contract.

Then why bother mentioning it. Who cares if Noel can shot 70% when he NEVER GOES TO THE LINE.

Why the F would they play Howard and Embiid to close a game with Simmons on the floor. Even Brown wouldn't do that.

Sometimes you get 2k21 and basketball confused

You seem confused about what I actually said

You talked about free throw % and how Noel at 70% while shooting one a game is better.

2021 is loaded why keep salary on the books for a guy that is a not special in any way

I doubt they're going to sign a special backup center, ever.  So a young relatively cheap option on maybe a 3 year deal may be nice.

However you're sidetracked on this point and my point was not that Howard is bad and Noel is good.  My point was about a brief discussion in here a couple days ago when someone said maybe there should be some concern about Morey leaving such carnage in Houston.

My feeling is that GMs don't really have that much control these days.  Stars dictate their teams signings and trades.

As an example, having a possibly done deal with Noel, and suddenly signing Howard instead after Joel Embiid recruited him.  Not really Morey's dealings.

Not sure you can place much Blame on Morey in Houston when Harden says he wants Westbrook. Everyone in the world knew that was a bad idea except harden,  but the GM has to appease his stars or else they ask for trades themselves.

When the star player and new owner handcuff you as a GM you're screwed.  Really hoping Harris stays hands off with Morey in the cut.

With all of that said, Im just not sure theyve added enough effective shooting.

Curry, who Im very excited about, and then Green who was completely ineffective last year.  Joe, who may not play much, if at all. Thats the shooting theyve surrounded Ben and Joel with.

Other additions- Ferguson, Maxey, Paul Reed, Dwight Howard, Toney- all non-shooters.

What this means is that we are going to end up relying a ton on our shooters from last year to improve. Kork has to improve his game enough to be an asset on the court. He shot a great percentage, but it came all in a few games and others he was completely cold. When hes cold on most nights, hes worthless because he offers nothing else. Shake Milton is going to have to prove he can handle PG in the NBA because thats where his minutes will come. Hes really our only option at backup PG so hopefully he can do that. Mike Scott was completely useless all season long. Have to hope he didnt fall off a cliff career wise and can bust out of his season long slump.

If those guys can shoot well this year, in addition to Curry then we are going to be looking great. If not, I dont think our additions were enough.

On one hand you can imagine a best case scenario where a Ben, Curry, Shake, Green/Kork,/Scott, Howard lineup is draining 3s in transition or lobbing for Howard slams. On another hand you think of the inconsistencies and insufficiencies of a bunch of those guys last year and can feel its a plan destined to fail based on recent results.

At this point it seems like we are rolling in to the season with what weve got. So we will see which way it works out. Cant wait. 1 month away.

Rockets owner money comes from the restaurant world so I bet he is penny pinching where he can. Avoiding the luxury tax was must

He had to take a loan from the previous owner to buy the team.  He's not quite the FU rich like some of the other owners in the league.

I’m pretty sure Tilman Fertitta is filthy rich.  Yes, he’s in the restaurant / food service biz, but I think he’s got a half dozen other businesses as well.

Sure then why spend 2.2 billion, have a top 5 player of this generation, and not do everything to win.  Oh well, thanks for Morey

They lost to the Warriors in the 2018 western conference finals in part because Chris Paul got injured at the very end of Game 5.
