I'm a basketball noob so take my observations with a grain of salt but this is what I saw (and everything caveated with it being game #1 in the preseason):

  • Joel looked good with better spacing around him.
  • Howard was impressive off the bench, which is desperately needed.
  • Ben was disappointing. I expected more offensively with the better shooters around him. He didn't seem to benefit in the way Joel did.
  • I saw Green's D criticised in here but I saw him win like 3 turnovers in pretty quick succession.
  • I was a bit underwhelmed with Curry's shooting. It looks pretty as hell but he didn't seem able to create that many shooting opportunities for himself.
  • Maxey impressed me. Pretty shot that seemed to be nothing but net most of the time and he looked good on the dribble too.
  • Not a fan of Thybulle's new hair.
  • Shake was also good.

Im so disappointed I started falling asleep at like 8pm last night. I fought it but not for long.

I saw Embiid bricking nothing but jumpers.

I saw Maxey have a layup blocked not realizing the speed and athleticism of the NBA game.

I saw someone (Seth?) airball a 3.

I saw a bunch of 1st quarter turnovers and thought this team was months away from gelling offensively.

I did see surprising D from Green who seemed to be washed up for the last 2 years.

I saw Joel hit a few jumpers.

I saw great energy from old Howard, and many shots altered by his D.

From all I read the next day it seems like Shake Milton is a 6th man of the year candidate. Maxey adjusted to the NBA game quickly. Looked good handling the ball, and ended up with 3 assists. Intriguing as a ball handler for the 2nd unit. Embiid scored more than a point per minute. Tobias almost had a double double.

What was constant from last season and throughout the game- Ben Fing sucks.

Tobias was terrible last night.  I am hoping it was just rust.

Yep.  And Joel wasn’t that dominate or great.  He still spends most of his time 10 feet or more away from the basket.  He still tried too many 3’s.  They looked real sloppy, all in all.  I wasn’t impressed.   Shake and Howard were the two shining moments.  Simmons was awful.  And I agree.  Someone needs to take some scissors to Tybulle’s hair.

Wow all these reports about harden coming out... I dont think doc would stand for this. No way he gets traded here.

Maxey played well in garbage time and it was a nice first game for a rookie.

Stars always get preferred treatment. Hell Kawhi still lives in San Diego and takes a helo back and forth

My only concern would be the lack of true veteran leadership on this team that would call him on his crap. I think the team needs a guy ala Crowder, Rondo, or Marcus Smart type

I can see Harden being he type to come in out of shape to force Houston's hand.  He doesn't care what kind of compensation they get.  A team with poor leadership and immaturity issues do not need James Harden.  It's a bad fit and it won't work.  Jimmy and Kemba instead of Ben and Tobias was the right fit.  Sixers blew it.

Cap guys, let's play pretend.  If we were to trade Ben for Beal, will we have enough money in a year to sign him to max contract?

Yeah cause we would be allowed to be over the cap to retain our own player.

I don't know where you guys get this impression that doc is a discipline coach and demands this and that. He has legit had problems at every stop with players not listening to him and leadership problems. He got a championship on the backs of players in their primes and being unselfish. If that celtics run was about him they wouldn't if let him go.

Wonder if they try to get Gordon or House as well

I like how it took 1 pre-season game for Doc to figure out Ben wasnt gonna improve.

Also it was nice to have in shape embiid for one preseason game...

If they trade for Harden, they'll need a full-size school bus.

He isnt above doing them like some bum.

Fultz will be the starting G for the Magic and has played well so far

Just a brief morning update. Still being told that this is not true and coming from Houston as they do not want the Nets offer and Miami hasnt engaged. Trying to get other teams to up their offer by leaking Simmons. Sixers still have no intention of moving Simmons at this time.

I kinda figured that came from Houston on the night where they said they expanded their trade talks to other teams. Clearly theyre not happy with the offers theyve received and want teams to think Simmons is on the table. Other teams are probably like, Simmons sucks who cares?

Game tonight.

Morey said he wouldn't trade Paul and he was gone days later

Another update: Again this is just what i am hearing.
Houston is trying to get something done sooner rather than later and are doing all they can to get Sixers to include Simmons. Sixers are asking for more than just Harden IF Simmons were to be included. They have not included Simmons yet b/c they want more. Nothing is imminent but things may ramp up in the next day or two if Houston can find another team and Sixers get more back than just Harden.

Source doesnt think anything gets done with Sixers as of now b/c of Morey's demands.

Dont shoot the messenger

Joel is out tonight with an illness that is not Covid.  What a joke.  This will be the beginning of his cardio going to sh!t!
