it's useless trying to talk to anyone here about ben simmons.  i tried.  no matter what ben does, they'll find something to complain about -- save the energy.  ben could have a good scoring night, they'll complain about how "he didn't really defend the best guy".  he plays stellar defense...  "well, why didn't he score more?".  he has a triple double?  well, he's just padding stats.  and if none of the above works, there's the tried and true "ben and joel don't fit"...  which is absurd as they put up amazing stats playing with each other.

one of the things i like seeing this season though is how doc is using simmons on offense and throwing curve balls at defenses.  years past, we did not have a guy who could carry the ball up the court.  this year we've seen shake, maxey, green, curry, and even tobi sometimes take turns being a ball carrier when simmons is not.  one of the ways other teams have neutralized simmons in the past is while he's carrying the ball up the court, they just stand in a spot and dare him to shoot.  this bogged down our offense.  but, just the act of another player carrying the ball up this year, allows simmons to set up in a spot.  defenses aren't really keying as much to stop simmons from reaching a spot when he does not have the ball --  whether that spot is to receive the ball for a field goal attempt; or a spot to get ready to set up a staggered screen that doc is using a lot this year.

a lot of people will complain that "simmons did not touch the ball in the last 2 minutes"...  but one of the BEST uses i've seen of simmons without the ball was actually the last shot from last night.  check out this screenshot:

that is 6'3, 172 pound dennis schroder against 6'10, 240 pound ben simmons under the basket.  you want that matchup 20/10.  if tobi missed the shot, simmons 100% gets that rebound and puts it back.  ben had a triple double last night and made some of his points "turning garbage into gold".  doc did a beautiful job creating ways to get mismatches on that final shot (tobi => caruso, ben => schroder).

Easy now

So now people are excited about Ben getting in rebound positioning? WTF are we doing here. If Ben played everygame like last night and scored 17-19 pts per game, people would lay off a lot more. But last nights performance is not the norm. If you can get Beal for Ben plus picks/players, you do it.

No, just the ones who don't know much about basketball, particularly what happens when the playoffs come around.

He just exposed how worthless Ben is on offense that the Lakers put a 6'3" guard on him.  Ben should have been the mismatch a 6'10" with  guard on him, but nope go stand in the corner where you can create as much space as possible. Rebounding position haha

That is Ben's position 90% of the time on offense if you watch the games. Stand in the opposite post of Joel, watch the ball get swung around, as Joel passes out of a double, and hopes he gets a rebound on a missed shot.

Ya think?

Dwight Howard is a mess.  What the hell happened to that guy?  Did Lebron destroy his confidence while he was in LA?  He's so unsure that he back farther away from the free throw line with each free throw that he takes, hoping that that'll solve his problem.  News flash, it won't.  I mean, who the hell backs away farther from the line on free throws?  That's like running 4th and 1 plays from the shotgun.  It just isn't logical.

Meh, Lakers just needed him to come off the bench grab some boards and play some defense and he embraced that roll. Lakers used him sparingly. Anytime there was a game against a team that played small ball they sat him. He didn't get the playing time last year he is getting now, that is obviously exposing him.

I also hate games on wokESPN. Doris is hard to listen to.

Really? I think she's great.

What does being 35 with bad knees have to do with his hands?  I'm 40 and my hands are half his size and I don't have that problem when I play basketball.

He has averaged 3 turnover a game in his career snd shoots 55% from the strip so guessing his hands have always sucked

We have the Wolves tomorow. Injury report on ESPN has KAT and Russell both listed as OUT. I think this may be one where we can rest Joel and actually win.

Yeah I feel like he might just sit the season out.

His Mom and think like 6 cousins

Not to crap on Ben even more, but does he even have a dribble package? He is awesome in the open court because of his size and athleticism, but I never see anything besides a crossover. Having a limited dribble package, zero shot, and he seems afraid of contact/be physical just is recipe for a disaster.

Dude could be the best player in the league and doesn't seem to care

He was just good enough to become famous enough to date a Jenner. He got to that point and was like "Alright, I’m good”. He’s more interested in being a celeb than actually becoming a great player.

She called Embiid, Joel Simmons at one point during the broadcast.  So she's got that going for her, which is nice.  I hate the national announcers in general.  Really miss Zumoff and Alaa when the games are nationally televised.

It was actually Embiid passes it to Joel Simmons. She has no idea

He doesn't.  I've been saying he has no handle for years and people think he has an amazing handle.  He has absolutely nothing.

That was it.  I just shook my head at that.  She's awful imo.

Okay I heard that too but that's just a misspeak when merging two things together that you're talking about. I do that all the time in meetings/calls etc. She did it once. That's got nothing to do with the substance of her commentary and it's not like she's constantly misspeaking to the point where it is detracting from her substance.

So Embiid is out tonight right?  I mean he played Wednesday.

The closest player I can think of that reminds me of Simmons is actually.... Lamar Odom guy was Uber talented and could do it all but he was never aggressive enough to ever put it all together to dominate. Every once in awile he would have a game where you would be like holy sheet this is it this is where he turns it on and takes over the league... Lamar could shoot at least though.
