Highly doubt that is enough, but can make it work due to Horford 8 million trade exception

Eh, I’m still annoyed with Bjelica for agreeing to join the Sixers, backing out to go overseas, then changing his mind to go to the Kings. Yeah, I’m petty.

Losing Shake off the bench would suck (just look at last night).  Who is running that second unit?  Maxey isn't there yet.  Also losing some defensive versatility on the starting unit.  Hield is a poor defender along with Seth being meh might be a big blow to the perimeter D since Simmons would be stuck on the wings.  You can hide Curry now with Ben, Embiid and Green.  So unless you move Curry to the bench and bump Thybulle up (which then hurts the bench D and starter O) it is gonna be worse, probably a lot worse.

Dont know if its a legit source but saw this tweet posted on facebook

You start to trust Maxey to run the 2nd unit.

Buddy is -.3 on offense and - 1.5 on defense according to 38 and 5 advanced metric. While Green is -1.3 on offense and -.3 on defense so basically swapping O for D.

For comparison, Ben is +1.5 O, +.5 D. Embiid is +5.5 O, +5.8 D. Thybulle is - 3.8, and +4.8 D.

The bench is limited because they have too many guys that are really good at one thing and rest meh.

Thad Young has +3.8 O and +1.7 D. Said it for a few weeks that he should be the target. Shown this year he can facilitate, guard multiple guys, under contract thru next year, good vet.

Terrance Ferguson and a protected 2nd

May not even have to send Ferguson if they don't want him.  The Bjelica salary fits in the trade exception. Can just use that.

PhillyVoice wrote about 6ers considering Bjelica so seems our interest may be legit.

i remember calling out bjelica about a month ago or something...  would also be happy with tucker, but houston and all.

sixers also need a backup pg.  not necessarily a scoring one, just one who can distribute the ball and not be a hole on defense.  that way the offense doesn't look off when simmons is not on the floor.  the popular name is lowry....  but i don't know if i would give up the capital for him.

30 million dollars makes it an easy no

...and the 34/35 years old thing.

but he's from philly..  "bring him home"..  he's an upgrade over green..  an nba champion which would be a good veteran locker room presence.  imagine maxey (if he isn't part of the package ) learning how to draw fouls from him?  actually fills a hole on our team.

i can see both sides of the argument.

Ok. So the package from the 6ers would have to be

3 1sts

2 swaps

Ben Simmons (young player)

Mike Scott, or Ferguson (expiring)

Or, you could do those picks/swaps with

Maxey and Thybulle (2 young players)

Green and Scott (2 expirings)

Salary matches enough to make it work if by some miracle we could land Beal without giving up Ben.

If there was a way to get beal without giving up ben, I would absolutely do it. No questions asked. Embiid Harris ben beal is not only the east favorite but probably a title contender for the next 5 years.

I heard the same thing about shae Gil alexander. Yet if we had shae we would be good right now. Probably a championship under our belt.

Embiid has got to be the front runner for MVP right now. Dude is just unreal this year. That mid-range jumper is silky. Makes it impossible to guard him.

danny green is a road cone...  anyone with any sense of quickness just blows by him.

Sixers about to get blown out playing like crap most of the second half. And when was the last time the sixers actually kept Booker below 35 points in a game?

Embiid looks gassed.

We need much more scoring.  Hopefully a trade or two happens in the next few weeks.

Not going to be successful playing 5 guys 33 plus minutes.

Didn't help to not have Shake.

But we continue to struggle against good guard play which every team seems to have.  So maybe we just struggle against guard play in general and makes it seem like every team has good guards.

Joe played like 3 minutes and outscored Kork in his 16 minutes. Mike Scott right back in to the rotation.  Of course did nothing.  Doc is frustratingly stubborn.

Frankly I just don’t think their bench is very good without shake. Maxey is a rookie so he’s going to have ups and downs as the season goes along. Howard makes some of the dumbest fouls and mistakes. Korkmaz is way too inconsistent game to game. I like joe but he’s likely going to have ups and downs like maxey. Next year joe and maxey should be more consistent which helps long term. Thybulle is a good defender but offensively has the same issues he had at Washington. He really is what Andre Robertson was with OKC

But I felt like for a while you need to get Danny Green out of your starting lineup. If you have him coming off the bench and you have a more consistent score/shooter as your fifth starter it improves your starting lineup and it improves your bench. That’s what the Sixers need. They are one really good scorer/shooter away from being an elite team. I think they’re a good team I don’t think they can beat the elite teams out of the west nor the nets with the roster they currently have constructed. They need another scorer.

Not sure how they’re going to do that because your best trade chip is Ben Simmons and I think you need him to play against the opposing teams best offensive player cause it’s usually a guard or wing. And you really likely have to give up Danny Green in a trade because he is a expiring contract to match salaries to get that guy in. They are going to need to make a trade to get that scorer but then pick up somebody during the buyout. I’d love to get a Ellington in here off the bench and get someone like lavine (unlikely) or Hield (more realistic).

For me a trade I would pursue is a three way with sac and minnesota. We bring back bjelica and rubio for a package and picks.

gonna keep beating the "sixers need a backup pg" drum.  the reason the starting 5 "works so well" is because ben sets the pace and gets guys the ball where they can shoot.  we need that for the second unit.  doc has said he wants two groups of guys, but wants one of simmons, tobi, or jojo to be on the floor at all times..  so he rotates them into that group.  we've seen this.  but what's always lacking in that second group (sans simmons) is a guy to be a true point guard.  shake, when he's healthy, fills that role...  but (imho) it does not seem natural -- at least not yet.

looking at point guards the sixers were linked to i came across this:

Report: Sixers expressed interest in trade for Spurs guard Patty Mills (usatoday.com)

Quote

Mills is coming off a productive season in San Antonio where he averaged 11.6 points and 1.8 assists while shooting 38.2% from deep on 6.1 attempts. That means he puts up enough threes while also knocking down enough to space the floor and make defenses worry about him.

dunno what it would cost to get him now, but could (still) be a target for morey.  i don't think we'd need mills to be a scorer per se, just a distributor to guys who can spot up and shoot.  it DOES help that he can spot up and shoot himself.

i'm also still in the camp that wants bjelica to fill the stretch 4/5 role which will work better with simmons when embiid sits.  dunno how much longer the scott experiment will keep on going, but (imho) we need a better backup for tobi.

Tomorrow night is going to be ugly.
