Harden wouldn't be nearly as good or score as much if they take his BS foul drawing tactics away from him.

And if they actually called him for traveling when he does his stupid step back.

The Philadelphia 76ers pursued a trade for Kyle Lowry at the deadline, but were unable to get a deal done with the Toronto Raptors. After the 76ers were eliminated in the second round in seven games, it is difficult to conceive of Lowry not giving the team the edge they needed to advance.

"There is a consensus around the league that [Daryl] Morey resisted because he’s angling for an even greater star," writes Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer over Philadelphia's decision not to trade for Lowry.

O'Connor mentions Damian Lillard and Bradley Beal as stars the 76ers are interested in trying to trade for, along with lesser stars such as CJ McCollum and Zach LaVine.

Any major trade the 76ers assemble almost certainly would be built around Ben Simmons, who likely had his trade value drop during the playoffs.

"Trading [Joel] Embiid... is a nonstarter," writes O'Connor.

He has mastered the gather step

Agree, but you couldn’t really hold Shaq accountable for lack of effort in critical games despite his glaring weaknesses like you can Ben.

He also won 4 titles, so...

Shaq never shied away from a dunk in his life.

Shaq's one of the guys that people discount for some odd reason. From the time Michael retired, he was arguably/likely the best player in the NBA (you could argue Duncan) until 2004/2005-ish. His dominance on those 3 straight championship teams was absurd.

Can angle all you want doesn’t mean you are going to be able to acquire one of those two. Hollinger in that article kind of discussed those two and it’s not very likely at the moment. I tend to think the blazers hold onto Lillard at least til the deadline with a new coach. And beal hasn’t said he wants out and the wizards seem pretty content at letting this team keep going down this path.

So we sign shaq to a ten day contract

Remember Kobe had that first game of his career against the Jazz and he air balled 3 game winning shots? What did he do? Immediately went in the gym and took 1,000 shots. Earned Shaqs respect immediately.

Simmons after a whole effing series of garbage says he is gonna go home and relax. Effing punk.

I think it’s because people just think of him as big and strong. Like "it doesn’t count” because he’s just physically dominant with no real skill.

And yeah, peak Shaq was an absolute force no one could handle.

What’s going to be painful is hindsight with the sixers after that raptors loss. In hindsight they should’ve made a change where they dealt Ben at that point and cashed in on his value while it was still high. Moved on from Brett brown to just re-signed butler to a 5 year and used tobias as part of a sign and trade with utah or Indy who wanted to sign him according to reports. Even with butler’s attitude and 5 year deal, i think that contract is still moveable if they needed to move on and able to convince a team who believes they are a Jimmy butler type away from winning a title. Even trading Harris and Simmons now I’m not sure you get the best pieces to capitalize on embiid’s career.

I’ll say it i think 2019 might have been their best shot at winning a title

This year was. 2019 next and pretty close.

Yeah, sort of how everyone discounts Wilt because they think he played against a bunch of 5'2" guys.

i don’t think the sixers beat the bucks in the next round or the Suns if they got to the finals. The bucks aren’t playing great but still better than the sixers who could barely score 100 by the end of the hawks series. Or the clippers if kawhi somehow got back.

I thought the sixers if they beat the raptors in 2019 would’ve beaten the bucks the following round and with the injuries GS was dealing with they likely would’ve won that. I truly believe the sixers were that kawhi shot away from winning a title that year. This year their path was easier the first two rounds but i still don’t think they were better than the teams they’d have to face in the next round.

Thoughts on these two trades... not sure Indy or the bulls do it but if you do this and get Simmons for Lavine/markkanen you have a really good starting lineup.

would be brogdon, Lavine, lavert, markkanen and embiid. Have curry, thybulle, green off the bench plus a MLE and horford trade exception.

I like Lavert and Brogdon. I just don't like Lavine, that's just my opinion though.

I really wouldn't want to trade: Embiid, Maxey, Thybulle.

Everyone else is available.

Baseball is in trouble for a lot of reasons. Here's a quick smattering:

1. Analytics -- launch angles, strike outs, etc. as you pointed out. Old school fans like me can't comprehend the inability to advance a runner, lay down a bunt, etc. But also changing pitchers constantly, starters no longer going deep into games (thank you Joe Torre and the 1990s/200s Yankees). There's no flow to the game at all. Back when you had Smoltz vs. Morris, game 7, 2 complete games...that was heaven.

2. Foreign Born Players -- I mean, we aren't supposed to say this outloud, but as more and more of MLB is made up of players from Central and South America, consumers in the USA tend to tune out. Young kids play soccer, basketball, etc. now, not Little League.

3. The dwindling attention span of modern society -- Baseball is the most cerebral game of the big sports. But it's slow, and it's nuanced. That doesn't work for people used to videos and blurbs in 140 characters of less.

I totally agree the flow is messed up and with all the pitching changes the games last much longer as well.  I'm not sure there is that much that can be done about it to be honest but it just isn't the same.

Pretty much where I am at. Don’t get me wrong, Maxey and Thybulle aren’t completely off the table for me if they’re getting the right player back. But, I’d try my best to not include those two in a deal. I believe Maxey is going to be a hell of a player, and soon. With some offseason work, he could be ready to start next season IMO.

Honestly i have some stories from his time at UCLA about him being a complete diva and pain in the ass. He’s not my favorite player either. But at this point not sure you are going to find a better trade than that. I’ve actually been against it for the better part of 2 years but at this point i think Ben’s value is what it is and it’s likely the best trade they get unless somehow able to pull beal or lillard which i think is unlikely.

i do really like that lavert and brogdon for Harris and Maxey trade. Hate losing Maxey but brogdon is a good starting PG and i really love getting lavert for Harris in general.

Ideally i wouldn’t trade any of those three. But I’m not against trading Maxey or thybulle even though i think Maxey becomes a good starting PG. Frankly if you want to get the best value for Ben i have a feeling one of those guys are going to have to be included.

The two trades i proposed gives you this lineup which i would think is a top 3 team in the east and plenty of spacing for embiid.

PG— brogdon

SG— Lavine

SF— Lavert

PF— markkanen

C— embiid

bench: curry, green (re-sign), thybulle, korkmaz (re-sign), MLE and horford trade exception
