They are already building around a center/power forward in Sabonis. And that's the problem with trading Turner. Sabonis is a great offensive player and rebounder but offers nothing as a rim protector.  Turner is an elite shot blocker and on offensive can provide great spacing. If you are gonna play two bigs, they compliment each other about as well as 2 modern big men can. Perimeter defense and a late game go to guy is where they fail big time. I think Lavert can grow into a "closer" type player. Defense is gonna be tougher to fix. They were good last year on D with similar personnel, maybe it was coaching but I admit I didn't watch as much this season as I usually do.

The other thing to keep in mind with Indiana is they are basically F'ed in the free agent market.

I think lavert is a good player. I’d want to keep them if i were Indy too. sabonis is a really good stretch big. All star type player. Kind of reminds me of vucevic in Orlando but i don’t think you can win a Championship with him being your best player. Like you said the free agent market Indians is Fed. That’s why i think you’d have to go to the draft or acquire young talent to get that type of player. I just don’t see a core of lavert, brogdon, sabonis and turner gets you to a title. I think the bucks, nets and potentially hawks with Hunter and reddish added are better.

I just don’t like paying centers like turner big money. He’s a solid center, i just have a hard time paying him in today’s nba. I’d probably try to get value for him in the trade market and then try to sign a center in FA for less that’s not a top tier one or draft one.

Sounds like Simmons follows the 76ers shooting program to a tee or he’s gone.

The thing is, that Ben already said he is taking time away from anything basketball, to focus on his mental.  In other words, hes not planning on putting in much work this summer.

Also, I have 0 interest in keeping him here, and trying to boost his value for the trade deadline. We already missed out on trading him for the past 2 years and his value has gone down, and down. Not interested in trying to get cute and rehabbing his image a tiny bit. Because its not going to happen. And we just have to put up with him another half season, and then get desperate when the trade deadline approaches and options are limited.

They can SAY they are going to make him work this offseason. And I hope they somehow make it look like he is working. But this cant drag in to the season.

In the athletic article hollinger pointed out the sixers might bring him back to camp. I wouldn’t do that. However i think morey is going to try to shoot for the stars and get that star. I don’t think he’s gonna be able to do it unless he gives something completely absurd.

Sabonis is not really a stretch big though. More of a pick and dive to the rim guy, or dump to the post and play through him like a Jokic-lite on offense(very underrated passer). He can shoot ok, but is much more effective in the paint. Turner is a great shooter for his size but is very passive on offense. As far as paying those type of guys a lot of money, it's easy to say. But look around the league at how many teams are looking for and need those guys, especially the rim protecting part of it. There are just not a lot of them. Supply and demand.

Celtics turned down Turner in a sign and trade for Hayward

I think there were a lot more pieces involved in that potential trade, and maybe another team? I forget.

But I see the hesitation for a team to take on Turners contract. He should be a lot more valuable on offense than he is. But for whatever reason he is very, very passive on that side of the floor. He also struggles against physically strong post players, which in today's league is not as big a deal but can still be an issue in some match ups. Great shot blocker though. Probably the best in the league. That's worth a ton.

I think turner you could make a trade to a team that wants a big that’s a rim protector. I think of Brooklyn tbh as a team that would be thrilled to get him they just don’t have great assets. Giannis killed them just constantly driving to the hoop without anyone there. Maybe Indy wants joe Harris in some sort of trade. I think there’s a market but not sure you’d love the return.

i think sabonis as he keeps progressing will get better with his outside shooting. That’s how vucevic was early in his career. Didn’t take a bunch of threes then progressively got better at it. Saw this year sabonis more than doubled his 3 point shots taken from the year before (1.1 vs. 2.6). I think cause he’s a solid FT shooter at 73% so i think he’ll eventually get there to be around 36-37% from three. Took vucevic about 8 years in to reach that point with his long range shooting. I think sabonis can really do both in time. He takes after his dad with passing. Arvydas was an good passer. He was actually an underrated big during his era.

I still can’t believe the Celtics turned that down. He would’ve been helpful to them on defense. Also you likely aren’t making that horford deal with kemba and looking elsewhere for a bad contract to match with kemba. It’s why i don’t think indiana would be against moving turner as they tried to make a deal with him before.

All that about Sabonis may be true. And he should take a couple threes a game. But I like him in the mid and low post running the offense. He is also a really good offensive rebounder and playing  him on the arc takes that way.

If I'm Indiana I trade Brogdan and keep Turner. Then then they need a PG and a wing player. If they can get a decent player in return to fill one of those spots that will work. Or maybe one of the Holidays can grow into a starter, they have been around long enough it's either that or career bench player.

I looked at your guys contract besides sabonis everyone is on a 1 or 2 year deal. I kind of think you guys are going to be pretty active with some of those contracts. I kind of think warren on an expiring contract is a nice trade piece for a team needing a bench scorer

Yeah I was just speaking on the starters. Problem is all of them were hurt on and off all season. Warren and Lamb. I'm sure they have value but not sure how much.

Bubble TJ Warren has value and Lamb is a good 3 point shooter from what I remember

Pretty sad times in Philly sports. Sixers choke and don’t know what direction they are gonna go with moves. The Flyers disappointing season and really don’t know what direction they are going in whereas a year ago had promise. The Phillies are lol. And i don’t even look forward to this upcoming eagles season as i don’t think it’s going to be pretty.

Happy birthday.... we are trading you lol

yeah Draft I believe is July 27th. So thats the first possible big date for something to potentially happen.

When’s free agency start? August 1? Imagine if you are a player playing in the Olympics and they deal you when you’re in Tokyo lol

I’m sure you guys already discussed this at length, I didn’t flip back, but why the F didn’t the Sixers trade for Lowry? With him I think you guys are in the finals. It would have been worth the picks and players.

August 2nd I think. He hasnt made his final decision on olympics. I think he has 2 days.

That would be nice because he would obviously already be packed.

Too old and expensive

Supposedly, Morey was resistant because he wants to go for someone bigger.

However at the time, the reports seemed to indicate Toronto was too high on their asking price. Id say the 6ers were very interested because they took it right down to the wire and actually ruined their whole trade deadline, and season when they missed on Lowry and only added Hill.

So.. who knows. Either Toronto didnt want to make a deal badly enough, or Morey wanted a bigger star.

I fully believe Morey will try to go big

He is on the record of saying that he wants stars and can fill in a roster with fillers

I kind of think two fold. I think the raptors likely wanted Maxey, thybulle and green would’ve had to be included in any trade to make the contracts work. That’s 3 pieces for one. So you be giving up a lot. Secondly you’d basically be resigned to extending him and he would hold leverage in those negotiations as you gave all that up for him so if he leaves you are basically screwed.

Also Bobby marks and somewhat O’Connor talked about morey wants all his asset and bullets for this offseason to go after a bigger name. I don’t see him getting that tho

Would you take garland, nance and Cleveland’s first this year?
