I’d like to point out i didn’t want Lavine 2 years ago cause i had stories of his time at UCLA being a royal pain in the ass where they wanted him to leave his last year and at that point you still had some hope Simmons would become the player we hoped after we drafted him so his ceiling was still way higher. I do think there’s risk Lavine puts up big stats that are hallow on a bad team similar to sexton. However i do think Lavine is the risk I’d take cause there’s potential with embiid he turns into a superstar at 25.

There’s also the improvement he’s made each of the last 3 years in his game and I’d add theres still risk he’s a pain in the butt but seems like he’s actually matured.

I said at the time they made that Harris trade he had played super efficient and an All-Star level for half of season that doesn’t mean he would continue that here. because he was playing on a team that had no expectations and werent that good. He was going to be asked to be a bigger piece and ton of expectations on him and paid handsomely.

There was a reason why Jerry West was selling him at a high point instead of trying everything he could to re-sign him and have him be a part of a championship team.

Lavine plays no D right?

no. Not "now". For years.

Now you just went and looked at a PPG stat and now you want to act like hes an established super star. You didnt even think about him prior to this, and now you act like you know something because you checked a PPG stat from this season.

Be smarter. Do better.

Compared to Simmons 3.3 defensive win share, LaVine had a 1.8 this year and a career high of 2.2.

HOWEVER, its up from below 1 in each of his first 4 years. Hes significantly improved. He might not be an excellent defender. But hes really not a total liability anymore. He has matured.

Lavine is interesting been years he’s been solid then years he regresses.

2017-2018: 111.5 defensive rating

2018-19: 114.8

2019-20: 110.4

2020-21: 113.5

Still way better than what he was

bridges had 27 last night. zhaire smith had 48 pts total for his career.

The Minnesota Timberwolves traded Andrew Wiggins and what became the No 7 pick for D'Angelo Russell. While the trade has had mixed results for the Wolves, they still "view Russell as a part of the core and want to keep it that way," sources tell The Athletic.

Russell signed a four-year, $117 million deal with the Golden State Warriors in 2019. Russell is owed $30 million for the 21-22 season and $31.4 million for the 22-23 season.

Russell averaged 19.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 5.8 assists in 28.5 minutes per game.

Interesting timing on the day that news came out (for a second time) that they want Simmons.

Are they trying to imply that he wont be included in a deal? Or are they trying to hype up his value to them to make him sound like a more attractive piece in the deal?

I think Morey is smarter than to accept Russell after declining Brogdon. And I dont mind Russell, and would have liked him in various trade proposals in the past. But at this point, with only 1 offer already on the table, we have already been offered someone better.

Then Edwards is in a deal

Possible that theyre trying to hype the guy that they are holding on to, to their own fans. Thats a possible take on it I guess.

That would be amazing for us.

I think Sixers would need some reassurance that LaVine signs the extension.

Would be a hilarious end of The Process though.

Probably would but the sixers would have in their favor (like with butler and Harris) would be the only team that could give him a 5 year max type deal. Butler they didn’t want to give a 5 year Max too. Would have a hard time seeing the sixers not offering that to Lavine.

Could also be a ruse by Minnesota to hype up Russell’s value to make it seem like they don’t really want to lose him and it would take a lot to give up on him. However in reality they don’t really mind losing him.

Looking at nba trade machine deal could only work three possible ways

russell included

edwards, Beasley and mcdaniels

rubio, Beasley and mcdaniels.

Guessing if Minnesota isn’t lying about wanting to keep Russell and not wanting to give up edwards (highly likely) that Rubio, Beasley and mcdaniels trade isn’t close to enough to make that trade. It would have to be a 3-way deal

Saw Duncan Robinson on JJ Redicks podcast on YouTube talking about free agency.  And been thinking.

Kork may be leaving.  Green likely leaving.  Gonna need shooting. Those are also major minutes out the window.  Gonna need shooting of starter quality.

Robinson is restricted. Wonder if a Thybulle and George Hill offer would entice Miami in a sign and trade.

I think they are really down on Hero right now.  Hill is a solid safety blanket if Hero regresses more. Thybulle is an ok prospect to ease the loss of Robinson.

I know you guys like my trade musings. Thoughts?

That's because they didn't include bench pieces in the trade

Good, want no part of Sexton. He will not turn into Trae.

Sexton turnover to assist ratio last 3 years: 1.3, 1.25, 1.57

Trae: 2.13, 1.93, 2.29

Sexton will make Morey look like a genius in a year or 2.

Should make that trade if it's available.

Why do you like him so much?

He's good and improving extremely fast.  He's still on his way up,  only 3 years in the league.

He is a great ISO player.  He has become very efficient already. Even with his 3 point shot which he didn't have coming on to the league.  Even as the focus for the defense on a terrible team.

He has shown he can carry a team on his back.  He played a game literally 3 on 5 at Alabama and has his team threatening to win.

Lack of assists is a slight concern but I've said,  he has had no one to assist on that Cleveland team.  I suspect like with the rest of his game his assists will increase,  especially on a good team.  Plus you have such a well respected PG like Jrue only averaging 6 assists.  Sexton can be a great PG for us and not ever be a 10 assist guy.

Teams these days play 2 and 3 guards at once all the time.  You don't need a 10 assist guy out there.  A couple guys who get 6 assists regularly is fine these days. I trust Sexton will get there.  But his scoring already and the rate that he improved is insane.

Neither did Trae and he still averaged 8.1 and 9.3 a game.

Sexton is a poor poor man's Irving. I wouldn't want him anywhere near a winning team.

Jrue isn't a true ball dominant guard either so not comparable

Same player in his 3rd year

It's comparable on the sense that a PG doesn't necessarily have to be a big assist getter.

Sexton is over 3. If he can get up to 6 with how well he scores he's incredible.

Assists bumped up. Points increased each season.  And FT attempts increased each season.

FG % from 43% as a rookie to 47.5 %this year.  Shoots 37-40% from 3 for his career so far.  This was a guy who didn't have a shot coming in to the NBA. Great percentages.

It seems you guys haven't really followed him since college.  He's improved immensely.  Quickly. Only 3 seasons in the league.  Young.  Came in after freshman season.  Lots of room to grow yet which is scary.
