You can absolutely build around embiid

simmons not so much

30 years ago, yes.  Not now.  You don’t build around a big man in today’s NBA.  Not sure why people keep thinking that.  He’s injury prone and hasn’t shown the willingness to be great.  Even if it was a big mans game, he’ll be out of the league in 5 years.

We might be screwed.

Becky Hammon?  You can’t be serious.

supposedly there is mutual interest between Lue/Sixers

Yes it was time. And he had his warts that kept him from ever getting over the hump. But remember this scene from before everything started going south after Hinkie was forced to step down. Philly grown players who gave it their all, were there. Smart free agent signing- Redick is there. Before all the trades. Before burner accounts and huge collars. This team was beginning to taste success. After all the losing, they finally turned the corner. They were fun to watch. And the future was bright. He brought them there. Its almost hard to remember Brett Brown got us there. What an exciting time that was to be a fan.

Gotta love how he mentions Hinkie and Brand but not Colangelo.

Little shot where he mentions 102 players in 7 years.

Kind of nauseating how he puts in a good word for Brand on his way out the door.

Needed to be done. Great guy but bad at being a good head coach.

Brett Brown was in way over his head; decent coach for a non-contending team who needs a "hooray-for-everything” guy, but the Sixers were badly out coached anytime the games actually mattered.

Trading both Embiid and Simmons would mean going back into a full rebuild, and the organization will not do that.  Given the choice of which to keep, you keep Embiid — 10 times out of 10.  He needs to be toughened up by a better coach who will challenge him, but he is still capable of being a top 10-15 NBA player.  He has a competitive edge that can be channeled, he is versatile, and guess what — he can shoot the basketball.

Ditch Ben Simmons while you can get some value for him.  Another season like these last two and he’ll have virtually no market by this time next year.

Hammon deserves a shot as does Darvin Ham. Both come from great coaching pedigrees

So did Brown.

I also want no part of Lue. That's a disaster waiting to happen

Embiid is building block #2 on a team with a realistic chance of winning a title.

Simmons is building block #3.

And combined, they pair poorly.

They are screwed either way, but trading one of them doesn’t fix that problem.  Their best chance of winning is the blind hope that a new coach can upgrade each of them one spot.  It won’t happen, but it’s better odds than trading one...and it doesn’t require doing anything.

i actually want lue because he knows how to handle talent and put them in the right position plus he took the cavs to three finals and won one, all the other coaches im not really confident in.

There are numerous examples that can be pointed out. "Brett hates confrontation," a former Sixers colleague said. When he has confronted people, it's rarely been the players themselves.

"Why the f--k isn't he shooting?" he'd ask assistants after summer scrimmages during Simmons' first couple of seasons in the league.

"We're all going to get fired because Joel's out of shape!" he shouted once late last year at the team's medical staff after a stretch where Embiid had missed more than a dozen games.

This season, Brown tried using the media to nudge Simmons. "You can pass this along to his agent, his family, his friends and him: I want one three-point shot a game, minimum," he told reporters following a December game in which Simmons made just his second three-pointer of the season. Simmons, who was irked by the comment, responded to Brown's plea by not launching a single three-pointer (excluding end-of-clock heaves) over his next 25 games.

Ben really doesn't care about basketball. Just the lifestyle it has given him.

This is when I was 100% out on Brown.  It told you everything you needed to know.

Lue established a level of respect with a team that had two of the most dominant personalities in the league. As chronicled by Lee Jenkins in 2016, Lue challenged LeBron at all times — including in an exchange in front of the whole team in the middle of their classic Game 7 victory:

With 2 minutes and 27 seconds left in the first half of Game 7 and the Cavaliers trailing the Warriors by three points, Tyronn Lue called timeout. "Bron, you’ve got to be better than this,” the Cavs coach implored.

"What do you mean?” James asked, incredulous. He had just scored 41 points with 16 rebounds in Game 5 and added another 41 with 11 assists in Game 6, evening a series that was essentially over. He’d sent his teammates impassioned late-night group texts, showed them the commencement address Steve Jobs delivered at Stanford and convinced them during a post-practice bus ride across the Bay Bridge that the championship was their destiny. It’s already written, he shouted from the back.

"What more do you want me to do?” he pressed Lue.

"Stop being so passive!” the coach barked. "Stop turning the ball over! And guard Draymond!”

Difference is James WANTS and has the drive to be great. Let's not forget, the 2nd greatest player to play basketball

Ben doesn't give a crap so will fall on deaf ears.

Joel is too busy thinking about Chik Fli A fries

Exactly the NBA is a players league. Coaching helps but, the players are the ones that have to want to succeed. A new coach isn't changing this team if embiid and Simmons don't want to work it out on their own.

There will now be twice as many youtube videos released in the off season of Simmons shooting uncontested jump shots!

Every time a video of Ben shooting during the offseason goes up, someone should then tag his mid range and 3pt shot attempts
