Just taking everything at face value here instead of the baggage/unwillingness to change we know the guy has...one would think the Olympics and Australian national team were the perfect opportunity for Simmons.  What a great opportunity to get off the NBA stage, play some pretty decent competition, and learn how to be the alpha on a team, take some shots, and be the guy scoring some points.

That's just another challenge he shrank away from.

He wouldn't have been the alpha, that's Mills. I'm pretty sure the rest of the team don't like him. I think this is the third time he has bailed on them. Bogut said that the Victorian Government threatened to pull all funding if they didn't let him play exhibition games (which he ultimately bailed on anyway).

He is also apparently acting like a petulant child and bails on them last minute since they cut him from the squad in 2014. I don't think Simmons acting like that is surprising to anyone but it doesn't endear you to your team-mates. Simmons may actually be one of the reasons Mills doesn't want to come play in Philly.

If he did play they would have been the best defensive team there by a mile. Simmons and Tisse would have caused everyone headaches on that end of the floor. It probably gets them closer to the USA as well with Simmons being able to slow down KD.

Morey is playing this smart, but we now need to consider the fact that Ben might sabotage him. He shouldn’t be in a rush to take the deals on the table (Sexton, Brogdon, Kings, etc.) because they aren’t going away anytime soon. Sitting back and seeing if Dame shakes loose is a free option for now.

The new, complicating factor is Ben’s side leaking about how he isn’t talking to the Sixers. Putting aside what an immature clown Simmons is, Morey has to assess if this changes things at all. If you think some of those deals may be pulled back, then adjust. If not, keep waiting on Dame.

I felt this way for a while the Sixers wanted Daryl Morey for a while but really went and got him this passed off-season because he became available but also they wanted to get another superstar here alongside embiid. The sixers organization might make some dumb moves but I’m guessing they were fully aware Ben Simmons situation (heck was the article brand wanted to deal Ben when he got the GM role originally) potentially faltering, they wanted a guy in place who’s made some of the most complicated trades in NBA history to get stars to play with other stars. It would already been done if the rockets owner didn’t spurn the sixers with harden.

I believe they did lose that funding too.

Also if you watched any of thybulles YouTube vlogs at the Olympics he enjoyed the time that team spent together and said you don't get this in the NBA.

Is probably just the toxic 6ers culture that leads him to believe that.

I really don’t think it’s that. When you go to the Olympics you’re in the Olympic Village for basically a month surrounded by your teammates. The NBA regular season and playoffs is over the course of months and you don’t live in close quarters to them. Also resuming your daily life besides basketball which really gets put on hold during the Olympics

Simmons pulled out of the game on his own (surprise surprise) so no funding was lost. The government is also disputing the original claims as being true.

Compare the Olympics to the bubble last year. Some teams really thrived while others fractured. Embiid struggled in the bubble but when you know what was going on in his personal life it was understandable. It's on the vets and coaches to create that culture and find ways to galvanise the group. It's something they've really lacked and it's probably why they're not where they need to be at to compete

The video he said that in was while the team was in Las Vegas for training and exhibition.

Yes,  they were all there for business.  But thybulle has already experienced the bubble. And yet,  somehow in Vegas he felt his team hung out together and that was different enough from his experience in the bubble that he commented on it.

Let's just do LaVine for Simmons and go to town.

The Bulls clearly don't think he is a max player and a reason why they went out and got DeRozen who is a similar player. They traded away his best friend on the team in Thad. Then Zach says this a few weeks ago.

"I outplayed my contract. I’ve been very loyal to Chicago. I like Chicago. I just want my respect. If that’s now or later, it’s something we’ve got to work out internally.”

We have seen guys go the Olympics, play with the best players, and the next year show another level of their game. LaVine has tangible skills that translate to the playoffs as well , we saw Booker take that next step, and they play similar.

Again Vegas is completely different then normal daily life mixed with an nba season. In Vegas you are staying in the same team hotel and it’s basically a vacation, it’s Vegas where guys can let loose with each other after practice and all mixed with team activities leading up to the Olympics. You are in close quarters with your team. It’s completely different then 6-7 months of your life with off days over an 82 game season and you don’t basically live with each other and have more obligations to friends and family members over that time.

As for the bubble, they had so-so chemistry on the court prior to that due to roster construction and injuries. Wasn’t going to change cause they took 4.5 months off and then reconvening in the bubble. I also think the bubble is a little different because there were guys who didn’t want to be in Orlando stuck in a bubble during the height of  the pandemic with no vaccine at the time

Plus the olympics he was probably drowning in women

We agree he is being smart with the Simmons trade, but I don't think he doing a good job in general. IF they trade Ben where is the depth they'll still need to win? If they don't trade him depth will be an issue as well. Could things change? Sure, but he did the same thing at the deadline and a big move wasn't necessary, but a few role players could have made a huge difference against the Hawks.

Isn’t there an NBA party line you can call into, instead?

I actually think Danny green being out after game 3 was a huge difference. We can laugh and say oh my God it’s just Danny Green how much of a difference can he make? but when you have a guy with championship Pedegree and seems to be cool and calm on the court and the only guy on your team with that pedigree it makes a difference for this team. I firmly believe if he’s out there they aren’t blowing both game 4 and 5.

Morey definitely should’ve done more. Would have helped with the loss of green’s production on the court. Also i don’t think George hill had enough time to acclimate and get back into midseason form and was thrown into the fire. I’d bet hill plays well for the bucks next year. However i don’t think the sixers beat the bucks nor suns to win the title even if you made those moves. But i definitely agree the sixers should’ve gotten another big who was a stretch instead of just rolling with what they had.

Yeah.  I said the same thing right after the game.  We lost the last game by 3 points while Curry and Kork got abused all game on defense by Gallo and Bogdanovic.

Green even without scoring a point would have won that game for us just by playing some defense.

There is also an article out today that echoed that sentiment, and posted the stats with and without green.

The NBA is investigating potential tampering by the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat ahead of the opening of 2021 free agency. Both Chicago and Miami were reported to have reached agreement on sign-and-trade transactions just minutes after free agency opened.

Chicago is reportedly adding Lonzo Ball via sign-and-trade from the New Orleans Pelicans. This was one of the first agreements reported, almost immediately after free agency opened at 6:00 PM ET on August 2.

Miami has already announced the acquisition of Kyle Lowry via sign-and-trade with the Toronto Raptors. The Heat sent Goran Dragic and Precious Achuiwa to the Raptors in that deal. This deal, along with potential terms, was reported on over a day in advance of free agency opening.

Last offseason, the NBA barred the Milwaukee Bucks from adding Sacramento Kings restricted free agent Bogdan Bogdanovic after it was found the teams illegally entered into an early agreement on a sign-and-trade. In addition, the Bucks were fined and had to forfeit a 2022 second round pick.

Under the NBA's bylaws, the league can impose of a fine of up to $10 million for tampering. They can also void contracts that are deemed to have been agreed to too early. And, as they did with the Bucks, the NBA can force a team to forfeit a draft pick.

These rules are so Fing stupid.

Negotiation period should begin the day after the NBA finals

Superstars needs to play like superstars. The Sixers lost in the 2nd round against a team missing Hunter and Bodgan was hurt. Green or no Green this team should not lose that game or that series.

Of course not. Thats a problem with being too top heavy in roster construction. Couldnt even overcome losing a 34 year old past his prime starter. Because the depth was that bad.

and that's the thing when the golden state warriors won their first championship, they didnt have stars, i mean curry and thompson broke out but the most important thing they had that got them over the hump was great depth. you need a great bench to win championships. i think that's the thing that morey overlooked that couldnt get rockets over the hump, he was so obsessed with thing with having just two star shooters like golden state has, he didnt bother to upgrade the bench which was what failed him as a gm for the rockets.

he's trying to do the same thing with us, it's just not going to work. i would rather trade simmons for great depth pieces than try to get a star. we dont have a good enough depth to win a championship.

Bucks won a ring playing 7 guys and wouldn't call Portis or Connaughton anywhere near great. If Suns would have won they had Payne off their bench

Rockets didn't win a ring because they missed 27 consecutive 3 pointers in a row not because they needed a bench.

Come playoff time a coach will play 7 or maybe 8 guys max with the Stars sitting all but a few minutes. Depth doesn't win rings

When there is an injury and you need a bench player to play those major minutes...we saw what happened.

If the bench was better,  then it would have been different.

Not really necessarily true.
