I don't think they are reacting to just his summer league game.  It is a combination of how he improved multiple times throughout last year and his want for the game.  The coaches told him what to work on and he worked on that in the off season.  He works out a couple times a day.  The dude loves the game and wants to get better each day.  He seems like a miscast being on the Sixers 😂

yeah, but Maxey has shone in the regular season as well, and now looks to have added to his game. You dont always have to assume a draft pick is going to suck and flashes mean nothing. Maxey might actually be good.

Game tonight

Game tonight

Tomorrow at 9pm.

Apparently Calipari said that if they had march madness, he thinks Maxey would have gone top 10 due to the exposure he would have had in the tournament. Hes probably right.

We dont necessarily have to look at him through the lense of a late 1st draft pick that usually doesnt work out.

We can look at what he has done as a rookie and the improvements he made in season. And then what he seems to have added to his game this summer. Note his age, still younger than a bunch of draft picks this year.

His trajectory can go sky high.

Last game he showed something he hasn't before, shooting 3's off the dribble.  If he can add that to his game, he will be well on his way.

i hope maxey develops into a star and i'd much rather give up shake in a trade with ben.  but i wouldn't consider maxey untouchable either.  who knows what his ceiling will be & whether he'll reach it while jojo is still in his prime.

You don't hesitate if he is needed for Dame.  It would be interesting to see this team acquired Haliburton and keep Maxey.  That would be an exciting back court for years and if they take a major step year 3 (which is when very good players make the leap), we have a chance to be contenders in 1-2 years, the end of Joel's prime.

now youre potentially talking about a 3 level scorer who has also improved his defense.

I was just thinking about the potential of a Maxey/Fox back court yesterday.

One or preferably both of the guards have to be a good shooters.  I want Haliburton paired with Maxey.  He is also 6'6 with a decent wing span.  Otherwise we would have two midgets starting.

Some stat geek on realgm pointed out weeks ago how Dame maybe showing his age already due to less drives to the basket, or scoring at the basket, or some stat like that that basically showed he is just on his way to becoming a shooter only, and losing that 3 level scorer ability.

It may be a one year thing that he is making too much of.  Or maybe in another year the trend continues.

I dont know.

But I do know that it will absolutely suck to trade for him and see that happening within a year or 2. While Maxey is just in the beginning of being a dominant scorer. And we will have to watch him that way in the league for years after Lillard, and Embiid have broken down.

Im totally not for that. At least not without getting some exciting young prospect or good draft pick in the deal with Lillard.

Yeah. But Maxey might become an average shooter this year, and likely continues to improve on that.

Maxey and Haliburton might be a nicer compliment. But Maxey and Fox has great defensive upside, and much more dynamic offensively as well. Neither can be stopped going to the basket. And would at least adequately space the floor.

I saw that too and this is usually what happens to those explosive guards as they get older.  They need to protect their body to preserve longevity.  I now am of the opinion that I would like a Haliburton/Maxey team just as much as I would like a Dame/non-Maxey team.

Fox will have issues when he gets older.  I know we are years away from that but if he can't become a good shooter, when he gets closer to 30 and slows down, he will be less valuable.  That is way down the road though.

If we can get Lillard in a 3 team deal where GSW helps out with sending some assets which saves us from giving up so much. Good.

But a 2 team deal where we sell the farm including Maxey is just extremely idiotic imo. I hate it.

He was so poised as a rookie.  The moment never looks too big for him.  He looks like he can become a great defender too.

jo & dame would open things up for each other, imo. i think dame would actually thrive in philly.  tbs, i won't be mad if they move ben for fox or another younger guard to play alongside maxey.  maybe not a dame level player but giving up less to get them. we'll see.  i kind of just want ben gone at this point.

hmm??? anyone know about this?

There’s a pretty unflattering rumor going around about Ben from the Michael Lombardi podcast. Hope it’s not true because it seems like he might not be a good culture guy for a locker room.

I hate when people do that and then you ask them to expand on it and they don't respond.

Said it a few weeks ago. Lillard doesn't necessarily make Embiid better where someone like Haliburton or Fox can at least make the players around him better.

Most NBA players love the game and love to play Ala Jimmy Butler and KD. Ben just doesn't give a crap and I bet that rubs a lot of people the wrong way.

Guys staying after to get up shoots and they all see Ben doesn't shoot during the game but also doesn't work on his game.
