He can probably fill in for Simmons at PG right now and we would be better off.

 

In seriousness.... he probably could but I wouldnt want him to. He would do some nice things with the hustle. But he would be a guy that the fan base is split on. Half will always be looking to improve on him to find a player with better skills more fit for the modern NBA. And the other half will just love him for his energy and attitude, like Mike Scott's following. 

 

Think about the bench with Drummond, Reed, and Thybulle. Such bad offense.

How the league is evolving. To have a small ball 5 and an old school big, but we have no evidence can trust Doc to evolve with the game. 

Look what the Clippers did last playoffs with Batum at the 5 vs the Jazz to basically Gobert off the floor. Then come back and play Zubac vs Ayton and play well until getting hurt.

They should have played Ben at the 5 instead of Dwight through the playoffs. The Warriors do it with Draymond as well and it's effective if you have the right player. It doesn't clog up spacing and with teams having three point shooters all over the court you need athletic guys that can get out to the perimeter on D. 

Reed has shown enough as a high energy guys that can be active, provide some defense and hit the occasional 3. In games Embiid plays  you need someone to fill in for 16 minutes. If Reed can provide 8 minutes where he isn't a liability or a walking foul like Dwight that will be a positive. I'm not sure how Drummond is going to go considering he is a dinosaur that can't shoot. If both guys aren't cut out for it they'll source someone around the trade deadline

Drummond is only 28

If hes motivated,  I don't think you gain anything by not giving him ALL of the non-Embiid minutes. Reeds 20/20 game in the summer league is a typical night for a motivated Drummond against actual NBA talent.

Now if you had a small 5 who could shoot... maybe Niang.... different story.  But Reed can't shoot.

Reed can actually handle the ball and moves well for his size. I think he should get some minutes at the 5. It sounds silly in the NBA but playing with 100% energy and hustle is a rare trait  in the league these days and Reed has it.

Agreed. To Bring that type of energy every night in the nba doesn’t happen from everyone. You see it with guys like Tj McConnell but it’s a long 82 game season so guys pace themselves. 

frankly you just need reed to give you 10 quality mins per game in the playoffs. You hope embiid gives you 38-40 in playoff games. During the regular season let him have mins so he’s ready by the playoffs.
