No, I read the Eagles did not want Foles included with the deal for Wentz. Not sure if it was Cap space or if they wanted to go younger and thought Foles would be a distraction... Maybe both. Anyway, maybe Foles read that and thought the Eagles did not want him back for some reason.... So maybe he said something to the effect he wasn't interested and taken out of context by the reporter. Again, I am not sure he said anything. Anyway, does it really matter now? He is not coming here and I doubt anyone is gonna sign him unless they can do so for allot less then he is making now....

Well if you know the team wants to trade you can say stuff like when Wilson said he would only play for 4 teams. Does he control where he goes? Of course not,but who wants a QB that doesnt want to play for his new team? You can not show for camp, play with mediocrity,so although they don't control where they go,they can make things difficult for the new team they DONT want to play for. Can we stop with Foles now? he is gone

I don't understand what you are saying. He was due to make $17 million for one year. Instead he is making $13 million for three years. That is a decrease in pay.

Btw... I apologize for not being on top of the numbers like I usually am.

Graham was going to make $13 million this year.  The cap hit was the $17 mil #.   He's going to get $18.5 over the next 2 years.  With up front and guarantees.    He makes out on this because he wasn't going to get $13 mil with the cap hit, now he is set up to where he won't get cut for 2 years.  Smart move getting more money and guarantees.    Great for Eagles too with the huge cap savings.

Kelce has a one year deal, not sure why everyone says he will play longer.  He might, but they need to give him another contract.

"I’d miss the atmosphere of the locker room.,” Kelce said "Those personalities are hard to come by when you’re done playing. At some point I’m going to have to say that it’s over, but I’m not ready to do that yet. I’m getting goosebumps just talking right now.”

The past couple off seasons he’s been thinking about retirement. This offseason, the most obvious to want to avoid. He’s making quotes like this. There are even more you can look up. He would miss the locker room. Kelce wants to ride this rebuild.

We shall see.  Gotta give him a new deal again.

Hard to turn down $$ on a final contract to sit home and change diapers

It’s big money now also. He started out making, not even, a half a mil a season. Then worked his way up to four mil a season. So now he can be paid as the eleventh highest of C....it’s still making more. Really been financially game changing these last few years have been for him.

Henry....Cook....Kamara.....Barkley..........McCaffrey. That’s LaDanians top five RB list.

Obviously Elliott isn’t on the list.

This Ertz situation has been looming forever. There are plenty of teams I’d say that desire his services. Bills, Colts, Hawks, Chargers, Panthers, Jags and Cards all easily make sense. Gotta be able to get a fourth round out of any of them for him.

So they expect an extension to cost around 52 mil for four years on Goedert.

Justin Peelle isn’t here any more as TE coach. Guess where he is?

Nobody bothered with these figures? Kind of feels like we have other options. We could extend Goedert like this and gave him five more seasons. Nobody is really blaming anybody to do that. The obvious path. But this FO has reliably been strong at drafting TEs. If they spent a second round pick on one next season I would expect that guy to be pretty good.   So with that being said, what are alternative paths? Well if he plays out his fourth year and then hits FA we would be in line for a very good Comp pick. Fourth round pick style. That wouldn’t arrive until 2023. We’d also have to measure who we lose versus pick up to win the comp picks. Good to have this talk while Ertz is here. Because you’d think he’d be an option. Surely he won’t command as big a contract as Goedert now. He’s 31. His cap is large right now. So something has to be done. I don’t blame Ertz but so much for cramping out this past season. Saw it even worse with DJax. Though I believe he was promised plenty if he helped the team out by taking a salary dump year. Anyway, Ertz is 31. Could be reasonable to consider his value at 31,32 and 33. Probably have an option year at 34. So that is a path to consider. Bring in some hard blocking inline TEs with him could work. Or....bail on both. Trade them both away at highest offer.  Look to the draft. Maybe develop two young guys to fill roles this season. Plenty of ways to play this position room. A bunch of current and future money at stake. So the team building is huge off this/these decisions.

Or check out Charlie Kolar that plays for Iowa St. 6’7” and athletic. Makes tough catches. Has a near 4.0 GPA. I’d be fine if we just flat moved in the direction of him as our lead TE. I know....it’s early. He’s next years draft. Not everyone translates from college to the NFL. But really just considering how we could totally shift money from the TE position to elsewhere. Really would help the team rebuild. Have investment at WR to counter things more than in the past. It’s very doable.

  • Author

Kolar is already on my radar. The defense  needs more attention. But I’m thinking about a TE almost any which direction in next year’s draft.

  • Author

Now check out the top guy for next season. Jalen Wydermyer. 6’5” Brick of an athlete. Texas A@M.

I think we’d all agree on moving in this direction going forward. This kid is a monster.

  • Author

Drooling over Wydermyer already. Might even make sure you take him in the first round. Get that fifth year guarantee. The bar has been moved recently for TE but still cheap compared to most position.

  • Author

All agreed? Trade Ertz and Goedert instead of paying either. Draft Wydermyer and develop some complimentary blocking TEs this season.

Panthers declaring Chinn moving to S this season. Pretty interesting. We all here are familiar with him. I was pumping this guy down your throats on draft prep. But he had an incredible rookie season. Hard to imagine changing that. But really shows the truth of becoming positionless NFL. I’ve been really on this kick for years to get all these hybrid S types. Need specialist more than ever now. But you must be able to cover. The problem was always considered durability and endurance concerns. But if you stack the team with plenty of these guys you go ahead and hedge your bets. Also allows flexibility. Allows you to rotate. Much harder to prepare for a defense that is throwing bunches of guys at you. It’s an easy read if every time you bring in the Nickle corner or run Lb to read. Now is the time of DBs on the field. Heck you can even play defensive fronts to protect corners more. Have guys that maybe would be thought of more as S than CB. Rely on them covering underneath and tackling. The way I’ve been thinking for years now. Those hybrid guys that don’t quite fit the lock down corner or big enough for LB types can do plenty. Goal is for the LB to avoid the blocks anyway mostly. Helps if you have a few guys hold their ground at point if attacks. But a LB getting caught by the Oline isn’t any more effective than a S would be. Jenkins was a bunch of that for us. I’ll give all credit for his roles.

Chinn is what 6’3” 220. Kind of becoming the size of many LBs now. Bush the big pick by the Steelers is 5’11” 235.
Two sides of looking at this situation. Try to load up on these types yourself for defense. Also I think you could buck the trend. Really counter with power offense. Smaller LBs and position-less players. That’s obviously what’s been going on for NFL defenses. They had to counter the Passing Era of the NFL. So now maybe go Old School. Become the bully.

  • Author

We’ve been big on using twelve personnel. Two TEs. But we didn’t run power so much. Occasionally were known for bringing in an extra Oline as a second or third TEs. That worked for us. Didn’t have that luxury last season so much. So we were missing that advantage. Went two TE but didn’t really bully power people. Didn’t have outside WR opening anything up to counter either.

I really believe in the wear the guy out across from you theories. Hit their best guys with double teams early. Slow them down. Get physical. Make their DBs tackle. Sweeps and pitches. Even screens out wide. Let those small DBs have to get nasty. See if they still can run with your speed after they get a Charlie horse from tackling. Game of attrition. While you got the ball it keeps them off the field also. Just kind of see many advantages to dialing some things back to old ways of football again.

Great point Ham: "But a LB getting caught by the Oline isn’t any more effective than a S would be." Pretty much either or are mostly just a speed bump hitting those mountain men.

Jenkins is a hell of a player.  I'd take ⅔ worth of my DB roster with players like Jenkins.
