I’m looking for around the 3000 mark passing for Hurts this year 25 tds under 12 ints…. Not elite numbers but respectable and realistic expectations for a starter in his first year.

Add another 500ish yards rushing 3-5 tds and get the fumbling under control.

Think this would be a strong season by Hurts and prove he can be the guy

3000 yards? That is 177 per game. You think that is good enough? Just asking..... add 29 yards rushing and you are talking 206 total yards from the QB per game....

I for one would like a bit more than that. Like 220-230 per game as a min...

Said around the 3000 mark plus 500 is 3500 yards of offense by one guy.

To compare Lamar Jackson had 3700 yards last season.

In year one as a starter I could live with those number.

And honestly I was thinking 16 games still not adjusted to this 17 games yet lol

190-200 yards passing 30-50 rushing around  a game overall… around 250 per game

I’m trying to keep a more reasonable bar for Hurts and not have some crazy high expectations which is could be unfair to judge on. So 250 a game seems fair to expect from the guy as our starter hopefully it’s more but

OK that was the difference. 17 games vs 16..... 16 games it is almost 220 per game

They lost

DOH! I thought I saw that they won 126-104. Was in hurry.

A good look at Kerryon Johnson and how he might fit here.

Examining Kerryon Johnson's Elusiveness & Pass Protection | Eagles Film Room - YouTube

It's interesting because in the last clip, it shows a blitz by the Vikings that I could see us running under our new regime. And Johnson would be a good third down back for us because he is great at blitz pickup and is a good receiver.

I have no more to say about Wentz. He is gone. We all have our opinions and some disagree with mine. I frankly do not care anymore. I hope he plays enough so we get next year's first round pick, After that his performance does not matter to me unless I have him in FF.

Hurts is another matter. Here is one fan hoping he steps up his game enough for all to see promise. What I hope does not happen is his play is middle of the road. Then we have to at least give him more time to see what he can do. Yes we need to give him a fair shot. I get that. But if he plain stinks up the joint, I feel we will have enough film to know he won't make it, even if we give him 2 more years..... 16-20 games can be enough for evaluation should he hit either end of the spectrum on his play. It is when he is in between they have to give him more time. That is when I get concerned we might lose our window to grab an elite talent at the QB position....

Just how I feel. I know some are not concerned. There are many ways to look at it.

I don't see us losing any window as far as missing an opportunity to be bad.

I  don't see us being really bad this year, not if we stay healthy.  The vets can easily all have another season in them to win 6-9 games... this year.  If we don't,  you may have your answer that Hurts isn't good enough to even get that.   I will give him a pass though if things turn out like last year around him.

But as the vets fade away, I don't see the 6-9 wins being as easy to get in 2022 or 2023.  Not if Hurts only plays mediocre.

Basically,  they can mask him being bad this year, but not for much longer, so if he is bad, we can still get a good pick after next draft. That window is there for sure.

Looks like we may not use Sanders much at all on 3rd downs or obvious passing situations.    It's a smart move to improve situational football.    If he continues to drop passes and miss blocks, no need to have him out there if others can do the job.

If the 4 RBs end up ... Johnson, Gainswell and ( I'm blanking out on the little dude's name)   you can see where they are looking at the idea of Sanders not being on the field.  They could split 1st and 2nd down when he misses his usual few games.

Who was the best offensive player for the Eagles in 2019?   Even with your complete bias and theoretical posts from left field , I think this one was obvious.  McCown is who he is, like Foles, you hope the luck is there and it's a good day for a backup.  Hard to put any blame on him.

Fletcher Cox

Because you quoted our best player...not offensive

Not even going to talk about Fletcher Cox being a shell of himself in 2019 dealing with injuries

I really think I’m hearing and seeing enough to knowHurts is a legit level starter. I don’t really even question that. How far is his ceiling? That part is the mystery.

I don’t even know how we can remotely say this he has done nothing to note in the nfl yet…He had and I’ll be generous extremely up and down 4 games last year. Hurts still has to prove he can be a starter and not just a high end backup which is what his play looked like last year.

All comes down to if Rosie can pull off getting the QB he likes. He’s going to have plenty of ammo to go get the guy he wants. Probably not the first pick....but likely the second or thirdQB in the draft. Or the trade scenarios. I’m still believing Watson is the move he has his eyes on.

We do have some WR's for him to toss the ball to, assuming they do not get hurt. We also have a decent O-Line to protect him. So he does have enough fire power to show he can do it. I am rooting for him. He seems to have the intellect, which is a big part of the equation.

Young Wrs. I expect that to have to gel and grow. Ertz has been presumed gone. So Goedert’s health is crucial. Sanders is a big piece. We really need to kill people with the Hurts/Sanders quandary on the ground. Both are so dangerous to explode on a huge gain.

Just soooo many variables. The biggest being The Slim Reaper. How quickly does he hit the ground running?

Ohhhhhhhhh.  They figured out to pressure him?   Ohhhh man, why didn't any defense figure that out.

The genius of Todd Bowles... he figured out what to do to slow down Mahomes was to pressure him.

That's genius... pure genius.

Had zero to do with the Eagles or KC OL... it was just a strategy from the defense and the QBs not adjusting.

Idk why these defenses waited so long to figure out all you need to do is pressure the QB.   That seems like a genius strategy.

Giants figured it out -- twice.

Sanders didn’t have his strongest season last year. Out of 63 targets his rookie year he hauled in 50 receptions for 509 yards. Kind of shows me he can do it at least. The blocking has to come up to par. Just seemed like he wasn’t mentally focused enough last season. Also have to remember he didn’t do much of any of the passing game in college. I also don’t consider him a high volume guy. So him working the first two downs works for me mostly anyway. So I’m not even disagreeing with you on this take.

  • Author

But I’m really expecting the gameplan to be much more Rushing focused than it’s been for us. So that puts a bunch of carries on the table.

  • Author

I think with the nitpicking of Sanders blocking we have to acknowledge DickRod was dreadful at that last season. Losing much of any advantage you could get having him out there in 12 personnel. Bad blocking TE? Or....extra WR? We need to recognize what we are trying to do. Rodgers isn’t helping us with the physical blocking elements. He’s a finesse guy. Probably rather have JJAW for that role. I’m hoping Stoll really picks things up quickly. Instead of needing tons of development in the PS.

You gotta understand Ham has inside sources, the ones that are helping write the book.
