I think it's valid to question JJAW, but I would first like to see how he does with guys like Goedert, Ertz and Djax around him versus Hollins, Greg Ward and Josh Perkins. He had great college production and a great training camp last year, so it's not like he has never shown anything. What I noticed is that he didn't run a lot of the same routes in the regular season as he did in the preseason, most likely because the team didn't have any speed around him, so he couldn't work the middle of the field as much.

To begin the season, I can see the team giving Ertz and Goedert around 80 percent of the snaps, Djax around 60 percent, and JJAW, Ward and Reagor around 40 percent. Perkins, Watkins and Hightower (or whomever makes the team) can then divide up the rest, with the team also using two RBs some of the time.

This allows the team to give opposing defenses a lot of different looks and eases in the rookies without throwing too much at them at once.

From what I read(awhile ago) we selected him for his "block out ability". He failed to show me that ability last year.As you rightly said it takes some longer to "get it",so I am not tossing in the towel here,he just needs to show me why we drafted him at ALL,and I DID have Hightower as a UDFA option. So let's just say Jjaw has his work cut out for him battling all these other WR's  .Just give me the best 6(5 if we like Killins-6 if we let him walk which would be a shame IMO),or do we retain 11 RB's and WR's? People called me crazy before when I said to keep 5 RB's rostered, but we did it.Must be careful who we place on the PS.Killins could be dangerous on any roster. With Jjaw,I want to avoid what I call "Hollins syndrome" keeping a guy around that should have been cut on "hope"

Should be an interesting year. Not that we would lose him,but Wentz IS in a contract year with some nice surrounding weaponry(if we can keep them on the field)

Wentz isn’t in a contract year???? He just got extended what last year

Yeah this is his fifth year option on his rookie contract still....and he just got extended. Carson just has to focus on Carson. He is an incredible talent!

Some thoughts on the secondary.

I think it is interesting that both Leblanc and Robey-Coleman are getting reps at outside corner despite both guys playing almost exclusively in the slot during their careers. Both have been getting good reviews so far, and it wouldn't surprise me to see the team take a chance with putting one of them at CB2 as Jones hasn't practiced much and Douglas and Maddox have been underwhelming. Teams may have been hesitant to play Robey-Coleman outside due to his small size, but we are clearly not bothered by that since Maddox is also tiny. Maddox does have blazing speed, but Robey-Coleman may be better at stopping the short and intermediate routes a WR2 is more likely to run.

Another interesting note is that Mills and McLeod have been switching spots, which the team never did with Jenkins and McLeod. Wallace can't play deep safety (which is why he fell in the draft) but the team needs to find a replacement for McLeod after next season. If Mills can play that role, I think the team would be happy to put him there after McLeod moves on. That would open up a spot for Wallace as the SS.

Well, unsurprisingly, Cindy Jones is hurt again.

When the offense is going with two TE sets the only CB role to practice is outside. So I wouldn’t read too much into that. Though we’ve been hearing a bunch about positionless and versatile DBs. So if Slay will follow his man then the slot guy has to potentially move outside with his man. Pretty obvious. Personally I think Maddox perfect role is at FS taking over for McLeod. Wallace at SS. That’s how I see the future. Maybe not so distant.

Jack Driscoll beats out Mailata....you heard it here first.

Believe there's still room for Mailata. What I've read is he's really learning quickly. Remember - he never touched an American football until 2 yrs ago! Still think he'd make a great 3rd down back along w/ his lineman duties.

As for Jones, Manuel may like him but has let Jones know the best ability is availability, amongst other things. He's got talent, may go down as one of those guys with a body that didn't let them accomplish the things that could've been. Still no word on the specifics of his injury, sounds mild.

Wouldn't you like to see the look on a safetys face if Mailata were to catch a pass down the seam

We're hearing about a lot about TC injuries but they sound like injuries players would normally suck up if it were during the season.

At least i hope so.

Lower body injury? Does anybody know what happened? Bruised knee? Sprained his ankle? Stubbed a toe?

Week to week sounds somewhat serious, even if they're just being careful.

He got punched in the D.

IDK we seem to be league leaders in injury stats.or at least it seems that way.Maybe because it's "our team" lol. But I also know we have been playing musical chairs with out med staff.it's about time we got that right

As far as Mailata,we knew he was a long term project,so he may stick around for a long time unless we are desperate for an open roster spot.Otherwise he will stay until we figure out what his talent spot is(maybe a GL 3rd and 1 RB???) He's a beast to stop, like a mini "fridge" lol. Could see him also developing into a TE in time. No rush at that spot at the moment with Ertz and Goedert,so he could settle into that spot in 2-3 years if he shows promise even as TE3,or possibly TE2 with Goedert as the 1 if/when Ertz leaves(although I think he retires an Eagle)

All these other guys you want to produce as rookies...or ship them out. Mailata is a perfect example of produce or beat it! This is year three. No more coddling. If the late round pick rookies outperform him then what else do you need to see? Too much project...and too long term. Mailata needs a passable starter level showing. Otherwise ....moving on.

Sure as hell am not trying to develop him as a TE for another lost two years.

It’s hard to judge backup OL I mean when do we really see them play??? Couple of clips from open practice some preseason football.

So im fine trusting Stouts decision on who to keep around

Esp this yr BG. See a little coverage on tv, searching the net, really haven't seen much tho. Hard to believe this things still not being handled properly - we should be seeing football by now!

Here's the interesting thing about Mailata, last year the media was seriously down on him early in training camp, so much so that I expected him to show up in the first preseason game with his helmet on backwards. And yet he was fine in the preseason.

This year again the media is down on him once again, and if you listen to them, you would think he can't play the game at all. But there's some interesting things happening. For starters, he's getting blamed for bad plays he didn't make. Some writers dinged him for giving up sacks Friday to Casey Toohill, who instead was lined up against Driscoll. Some blamed him for a sack by Ridgeway, who is a DT. (He may have run a stunt, but other's didn't report it that way. And it is pretty doubtful that backup Olinemen are going to running stunts effectively like that in practice.)

So obviously you are going to get a negative impression of a guy who is being blamed for every bad play committed by the offensive line. At the same time you are going to think other guys are doing better then they are. Driscoll was apparently really confused Friday as Toohill was able to go by untouched to the QB. Yet, no one really mentioned that in their reporting of the practice. Why? Well, when you have been writing all week how great Driscoll has been, it's easier to ignore bad plays or assign them to someone else, since telling the truth would mean contradicting your earlier reporting, and no one wants to do that.

You also have to remember that Mailata is most likely focusing on his technique right now. Anyone who has played a sport knows how uncomfortable it can be trying to think and execute at the same time. Obviously he can play to a certain level. He has given up two sacks in two years of preseason football. Does anyone really believe that Joe Ostman is doing things in practice that Josh Allen and Matt Judon, two pro bowlers who faced off extensively against Mailata last preseason, weren't able to do in games?

So I would take reports of Mailata struggling right now with a grain of salt. We know what his floor is, which is how he performed in preseason games last year. We know he can play on the right or left. More importantly, we saw the entire line struggle yesterday. So it's not like the guys behind him are not without their flaws. If Casey Toohill is running by Driscoll untouched now, is it going to be any easier against Montez Sweat or Ryan Kerrigan in three weeks? Mailata has already faced guys of those caliber in preseason games.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the LT situation for the Eagles isn't great right now. Dillard was worked over repeatedly by Sweat yesterday, and he's our backup. Peters couldn't make it through his first padded practice without taking plays off. So if Dillard and Peters are unavailable at any point in the season, who plays LT? There is a pretty good chance we will need someone at that spot this season. And as long as Mailata can play at the same level he did last preseason, we should be fine.

For context, here's some stories criticizing him before the 2019 preseason games began.

https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/eagles/eagles-stock-stock-down-after-2nd-round-2019-training-camp-practices

https://www.nj.com/eagles/2019/08/eagles-training-camp-stock-watch-rasul-douglas-making-case-to-be-a-starter.html

and then he went out and played fine in the preseason games. The same thing is happening this year, and we are all falling for it again.

You mean like the ranger we let go that plays for the Squeelers now? TOTALLY different. This guy has not had the opportunity to play football at ANY level before, not pee wee,not HS,not college, not pro.If they see progress, who are you to say he is being "coddled"? Now, if he had football experience through the ranks for 14-16 years like other fools we DO "coddle",then I would agree with you. They must see something?????? So if you read my entire post,I said he sticks around UNLESS we are desperate for a roster spot.Maybe that time comes this year? I have no clue.

There is such a fine line between keeping a guy to long(coddling as some like to say) and giving a guy a legit chance.

I usually like to see something come the 3rd year especially for positions that can see the field even if not starters ie WRs, DEs RBs guys we tend to rotate. It is way harder to judge OL or even QBs etc. one guy starts then in the Eagles case we tend to only carry and activate 2 extra OL guys doing the week had Big V who was the top backup at every spot that wasn’t center.

Earl Thomas got released not shocked it happened seemed to be a real divide between him and the team

Bradham cut by NO. Not a strength right now players wise and usage wise - a flaw in the Schwartz D? Tempting to bring Bradham back at a reduced salary.

Limited practices, no pre season, and an O line that can't get the reps together.

For the first time in years i have no idea what to expect from the Eagles.

Or any other team for that matter.

I think Bradham burned some bridges with his mouth. Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and leave no doubt.
