Seemed like Fletch was maybe being called out by the FO for not preparing properly for a guy making that kind of money and hitting his age this offseason. Results this season maybe point toward a guy that wasn’t going to produce his top season. I don’t think he isn’t capable but can maybe see that he has to take his prep to another level now if he wants to still dominate in his thirties. Gotta have that will and motivation to be great.

Ok...  you want to sell something... you don't get the price you want, but if you could get a dollar, why would you not take it?

Nope,if I am DESPERATE I take 50% but no less and why we still have Ertz

Right, he isn't good enough for the money. He is the exact age you want to keep players, not get rid of them.  Not one team offered a 7th round pick?    Save the $$$

LOL Joe, Dullaz WANTED a CB,but they kept getting beat out,SO they took the 3 TOP LB's. After they saw they made the RIGHT draft choices, then you LOSE the money. This is not rocket science. They would keep him if they didn't draft 3 top LB's(frees up money for another need) No brainer here

lack the foundation

yeah,so he is a foundational piece at worst and a 4-5 year contributor at best. So at WHAT point do you take your shot? Or are we forever going to be LAME on defense??? I understand we are not in win now mode, but this is not a player you sign for one year. if it was, I'm all in agreement. Don't worry, someone will take him and use him against us. it's the Eagles way and why we stay a .500 club(with little variation + or -) and why the SB win was the biggest FLUKE in football

Our cap has been screwed! Just bad …and worse the more you dig into it. This team isn’t contending for anything real right now. Siri and Hurts are probably screwed. Don’t even like that we’ve moved money like we keep doing towards the future. Be nice if we actually were paying up more than the average salary on some big contracts now or next year and have rollover going forward. I don’t even care if we have glaring holes. All about the future and what we can do then. Tired of being stuck in this hole of paying guys for two years ago play today. Flip that and imagine what kind of contending windows you could open.

So, if everyone is screwed, you have WHAT to lose exactly????? We are NOT paying WR's(which we always did),we are NOT paying a QB,we are NOT paying a RB. So we signed Mailata long term and thats basically IT. We're so freaking CHEAP, we should be in the basement at the Salvation Army

Panthers traded for Gilmore. Might have already been mentioned. He can’t play against us at least.

Nope because they are playoff bound and we sit with egg on our face LMAO. You're right,we won't face them or anyone post season.you CALLED IT!!!

Pack working out a deal with Smith

Sure because they are smart lol

Feels like a few of our players are beginning to become frustrated with these coaches. Arguably our best player on each side of the ball. Sanders you can just feel bubbling over(understandably). Fletch now is dodging saying this D just isn’t good for him. Pretty much said it but instead stopped just short and stated he’d be a professional and do whatever’s asked. Ouch….don’t have to read to hard between the lines here.

Yep the belief is falling apart(see previous post). You need SMART to keep your players believing. We are not smart, we are CHEAP and inept and make bad decisions and noone wants to play here The SB was a FLUKE and we are a perennial .500 club(if that). Waiting for LUCK and "miracles" is the Eagles mantra. We got LUCKY once,it wasn't due to good decisions,it was the biggest FLUKE in football(TY St. Nick).OK so no Smith, and NOONE else either. No sense rebuilding in a rebuilding year(does anyone besides me see the irony????). when we drafted DeVonta,he didn't look thrilled walking down the run way,why is that????

How many TD's does Sanders have year to date???? Thats a nice barometer for me. OK so I won't harp on this Smith thing, it's just another in a series of stupid moves or NON moves that keep us forever  behind the 8 ball

It's WORSE on defense lol

NC will put in their BU's in the 4th 1/4 because it's going to be another embarassment. NP, Chubba Hubbard will still destroy us(forget Caff lol). $ ball in NC

Wow….can’t believe what I’m hearing….you actually want to clear cap space now. Hell has frozen over!

Have you been following????   What does, this team is not going to win anything in the next couple of years mean?     Did you assume I wanted to keep spending money these next 2 years for no reason?    Wasn't I complaining that Herbig and Driscoll were supposed to be bench guys instead of getting the experience on the field.    When they paid Kelce and Graham and I said that neither will win a playoff game here again, what does that translate to you in terms of cap?

Of course that means don't invest money right now, and let's see what the young guys have.  I think Hurts isn't the answer, but I want to give him 2 years to prove that he isn’t.... but you don't see the implication that I don't want to waste cap space on a veteran QB or any other rental free agent?

You needed it spelled out for you like a 5 year old with this.... yet the unnecessary " reading between the lines" when I simply said our defense needs better players?    Again... the sky is blue.

Fletcher on D... who would arguably be our best player on offense ??? Please don't say the guy who I don't even think is our best RB.

Imagine being him... you had a dominant team, and now you have this... probably a nice punch in the gut.  Gotta be hard to play that particular position and know it's pretty much a waste. Especially when already being at the top of the mountain and playing in meaningful games.

Front office spin is great here... best in the business.

Most are better than what we have, more D&D failure(draft and development). But really there are only a handfull of LB's next draft. After round 2 even THAT talent falls off

panthers got him for a 6th rounder.....

LOL………talking about Gilmore or Smith?

I was thinking Smith 'cause GB mentioned "handfull of LB's."

Rolling cap.... it's a concept that needs to be understood.  It's not , you spend the money or you lose it like before,  with the rolling cap you have to decide if it's worth saving for later.  For me, I would.  The cap space is not that great at the moment.  The team needs a 2016 season to set up a 2017. Really since they lack the foundation that was already here in 2016,they need 2 of those seasons. Not only to develop the younger guys,  but to let the older guys move on.  Jalen Smith at age 29 and already costing them $27 mil total from 2021-23 , I don't think is a smart move...get the 26 year old free agent in 2023.  Much cheaper cap wise, and now you have longer foundation piece.

Thing is the Eagles would not be paying him 27 mil as Dallas had to pick up most of the contract when GB signed him. This deal was a no brainer Joe. I am sorry but GB just got a whole lot better yesterday. HR screwed up again.....

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/32354086/packers-reach-agreement-lb-jaylon-smith-1-year-deal    SO if I am reading this correctly,GB paid nothing??? So, it's a 1 year, at least they got him(and we could have). Most guys would rather re-sign with the team they are with, unless the money difference is immense WIN-GB LOSE-Eagles. I would have signed him for FREE(if I read this right) to have the chance to sign him to a multi year next year. I don't understand this team's FO, or how they plan to achieve goals. It just seems hit or miss with extra back patting on  "hit". If I'm rebuilding a team, then REBUILD it. Maybe I am stupid, IDK. Doesn't even give the appearance of a "swing and a miss", because we never picked up the bat. And while you can't go after every player, you damn well should know where your team hurts and grab that guy when he is available. It's not like this guy is 31/32 he is 26!!!! FAIL

Not sure how you can’t understand that there are 31 other teams. You can say Rosie blew it by not getting him but ….he went where he wanted to go. If you were signing a one year deal somewhere would you rather go to a contender or a hot mess like us?

Welp will be at the Panthers game not sure I want to be there lol… Good thing have Darnold as my QB in FF

Debating if I want to take a flier on the Panthers D that secondary is stacked they have a strong front as well… Hurts and our O will have a tough time

Your point is well taken. But Money talks and we could have offered something better had we wanted to. I think GB got a great deal because no one else wanted to put up decent cash...

Any word on what’s going on with Lane??? Saying he might not play again vs Panthers

If Mailata is cleared if seriously look at Dillard at LT and Mailata at RT… You hate to think about the business aspect of the game but could seriously look at moving Lane if the two young Ts perform well together

Your last two posts show that there would be too much to explain.  You just don't get the cap and how it works.   The Eagles are not cheap.... they are in the situation that they are in,because they are the opposite of cheap.  It's why paying Smith now does not make any sense. By the time he is really useful ( I know he is young,  we could have him for 4-5 years...etc) but why pay and have the cap hits these next couple of years?  You can let the cap settle, get some young guys in there, then sign an expensive  free agent in 2 years, who is younger, and the contract would start in 2023, not now.

Basically, anything we spend now, we can't get back.  Anything we save now, we can use later.   Unless you think Smith brings us a title or puts us as a contender, it's better off setting ourselves up later.
