Jordan Mailata...  5 years for 60 million.   Go explain how you would do it.   And then explain how it works with a rolling cap.

It is rolling cap. So you have to be doing it. We are so deep now in pushing forward it’s becoming near impossible. But I would have traded people whatever to clear cap AND pay my better players on this year’s cap. Don’t care if we suck and don’t field a competitive team…..wait we are doing that anyway.

Who are your "better players"? We re-signed 2 of them

How do you pay your players on this year's cap?    Give an example using #s.

Your using the fact that we already have been screwing up and pushing cap money back to make it seem like it can’t be done. But shouldn’t have been doing that so much in the first place. So you’d have to go back some years and fix all these first.

Hindsight is terrific!!!! Signing Djax and Alshon were big mistakes(unless of course they balled out all year then they would have been worth it). Forcing out your #1 drafted franchise QB was another "sweet" move. Howie" Let's scrap the whole thing and start this FAILURE all over again!!" great idea!!!!(not)

Said that then. So that’s not even hindsight from me

Until Lurie wakes up we're not going anywhere. With luck we will get back to being a .500 club

So we are here now..   you loved the 49ers...  they were your team here because they did everything right.   How is that working out.

At this point , the way to save cap space was to let Mailata, Goedert and Sweat walk in free agency next year.  Totally clear the books.   If they were to be resigned, this was the way it was going to get done.   Because a big thing you miss...is the players want the signing bonus. It does 2 things,  puts money on their pocket ASAP, and pretty much guarantees that they won't get cut so early because of dead cap hits.  No player is going to take a declining salary like you want to pay out.

So if we would have won a SB that year you'd be fine with it

Yes, I like to use facts.   Otherwise what's the point?

We're 3.5 point favorites. I don't see it especially playing in Detroit. If it stays at 3.5 I may take that bet lol

Any player will take a declining salary with more money up front

The point is the situation we are in. You are using the crappy Rosie Magic contract situation we are in to explain how my path can’t be done.

Because we do it your way….we are in this situation. My way it wouldn’t be so difficult in the first place.

2010... the uncapped season.... I saw what the Eagles were doing from the start. I thought it was smart. While other teams were spending,  they were slicing salary,  because they could absorb all the dead cap hits without a cap limit.

Set them up way ahead of anyone in 2011. And for a few years after that too, with the rolling cap.

The problem though... as I always say, everything comes back to selecting the right players.  Draft or free agency.  The Dream Team 2011 was a disaster...because they got the wrong players.    Any cap problem always comes back to it being the wrong players.    " A defense designed to play from ahead "   lol....dumbest concept ever.   I guess the coin toss determines who scores first then???

Every issue we see now, the genesis is selecting the wrong players.

So looking at the past lions games, they lost some close ones to teams that are better than we are. I think they pick up their first win tomorrow(unless they are starting the tank-a-thon derby early

Selecting the right players to pay is always key, no doubt

I just keep beating my head against a wall trying to explain how with 30 mil extra money in 2024 I can be a better team than your team eating that thirty mil on players for 2021.

No shot,  that's why players were holding out all the time.   Once someone jumped them in the pay scale..." why is this guy making more than me"  the answer of " you got paid 2 or 3 years ago" didn't fly.

Plus rolling cap..  you pay everyone a high salary early, how do you get it under the cap.  If this would work, how come exactly ZERO of the 32 teams do it?

I get you think you know college players than all the 32 GMs...  it's a little ridiculous to think you know the business side better than 32 billionaires and all the dorks their money can buy?  ( no offense to those guys)

Then if I’m contending I can start pushing cap hits forward. Giving me even more money.

Yeah... so then you would have not resigned Mailata or Sweat.   That's how you have the extra cap space.

So if a team rolls forward twenty mil but pays three of its top players more than the average of their contract cap wise. So it declines in the future when salaries are rising. You don’t understand how I’m going to be in much better shape than backloading it all without the money rolling forward in 2024?

Seems like most GMs are trying to keep their jobs. I get that. But trying to make your team reach five wins isn’t doing anything for the big picture of the franchise. So you’d have to be a GM in solid enough position to eat a bad season or two.

No I get exactly what you are saying... you just miss 2 important concepts...

1.  Carrying forward of cap space

2.  Players want signing bonus, some guarantee of getting future salary and increasing salaries.

Kinda important things you keep skipping....it's why you won't use numbers,  just theory.

I think if we knew better, they would have hired us by now(but I still think we could draft better lol)
