That’s the issue really most players see no value in the bowl games now they are essentially meaningless just another regular season game.

Why you seen guys like Pickett play still in the ACC championship game it meant something you are playing for the ACC championship if you are a 6-6 team but you can still make a bowl game.

Used to mean something to make a bowl when you only had 11-20 bowl games that’s meaningful your one of the top 40 teams.

There is what like 130 college teams in D1 and 88 of those 130 get to play in a bowl game with the NCAA having 44 bowl games.

This would be like 22 NFL teams making the

Sorry don’t believe in participation trophies. When over half the colleges in D1 get to play in a bowl game that makes them meaningless

If I was a college player I’d definitely see more value in my conference championship then a bowl game  it that’s just me

Participation trophies in college bowl games are really cool swag. Whoever is sponsoring the event. Nice watches….clothes. I’m pretty sure they always have gotten spending money on the trip…a stipend.

Maybe, but they get a better look vs a quality/similarly ranked opponent rather than lame team in their league. Why bother with the combine? Someone could tear an ACL. IDK I wish I had known all this so I could have opted out where I work

I can't type any day lol

Hmm "noticed" So he played well vs lackluster competition(often happens in tiny leagues). So now he gets to really show his value by playing a similar opponent. Of course you could look AWFUL too,but if you want to be drafted in round 6 and not as a UDFA,then here's your shot to prove it

Alot are noticed in HS(thus college recruiting),so should they just opt out of college ball altogether?

You play as a TEAM,you accomplish things as a TEAM,then when your teammates count on you you walk away. I don't need those type of "friends" JMO and obviously there are differing opinions.

Then consider whether these guys will participate in the Senior Bowl. Pretty sure I remember some guys opting out of their teams bowl game but yet playing and all those practices for the Senior Bowl showcase.

That, IMO is a tad different. That is like the pro bowl. You are playing with all different guys, not the ones who got you there. If you opt out of that you aren't hurting your teammates that got you there. In that game, no one cares who wins,it's just to see the players(like the probowl) It's a "social event" more than it is a sporting event

These college kids getting a vacation somewhere is a sweet deal. It’s not just the players and coaches either. Everybody involved with the team. Trainers, cheerleaders….the band. Plenty of times cheerleaders from every sport are included. So many….don’t care so much about the outcome anyway. Paid vacation with cool swag….

Oh well I was taught football is a team game, you play every game you can and give your teammates a chance to succeed or show their skills. I understand some doing the self preservation thing, but my belief is you are still walking away from the team that put you in that successful position

I have no clue why they would do that.If it's like the probowl, its not actually a game its like a walk through, noone hits you hardly, it's just for show. That game is basically useless as far as judging talent or seeing competitiion

Without looking who won the pro bowl in 2018? Nobody really cares lol

Anyway, y'all have your own ops.Mine is I play for a team and when the team plays I play, that was what I signed up for. Just like the military, would you want your buddy to "opt out" at the end of a battle? The guy that had your 6 all year?

Scouts get around. The Bucs have 2 D2 players and a D3 player starting on their O line.

Lackluster competition.

A worthless game that no one watches or cares about

I always paid more attention to the Senior Bowl practice notes. All these guys go head to head individually against the top Senior talent from across the country. Great opportunity for the smaller school guys to measure up.

I was surprised to learn that my grandson can already use his name and image to get sponsorships and he hasn't even enrolled yet.

Thats what I said lol,and why that game is different to me

And we'd all be really pissed if Kelce tore his knee up playing in the pro Bowl

So using him as an example and supposing he may not be a superstar and say he would go as UDFA(not that he would just an example, he may be a superstar) and he knows certain scouts will be at his bowl game(assuming they made it there). would he opt out? or want to take a chance and play to be drafted higher You should ask him,I would be interested in his reponse.

yeah pro bowl is meaningless like I said, like the senior bowl. But those 2 are different that team bowl games IN MY VIEW

But they have never played together

So as budding TE,how would he feel if he helped the team get into a bowl game, then his QB walked away???? IDK just seems really selfish to me

So IDK,there is no real right or wrong,I am just stating how I feel about it

Playing would be a decision he'd have to make

remember Pickett, since we're using him as an example, played in his conference championship game. That meant something.

We'll never know but i'd wager if Pitt had been in the top 4 he would have played in that game.

maybe a good reason to expand  the playoffs

IDK watching on TV is different than being there, they really don't hit, they understand it;'s not worth injuring anyone. It's a social /autograph/ popularity event. The game is just going through the motions. If you ever get to see one in person,it's worse than the TV even shows lol. And while the goal is to win,it's merely a stage show like the senior bowl

I wish they would just state the truth. They are not "prepping for the draft" they are avoiding the possibility of injury to fall down draft boards. So, lets just call it what it is,they are not prepping for squat lol(*nice SPIN however) So I can understand both sides here. No top guys want to get hurt on a fluke, but by the same token you are abandoning the guys that got you there. So I DO see both sides. I just find it selfish but I am also aware that those draftees wont be playing with those guys again either
