Look into high ankle sprains and recovery times. Usually out five weeks.

But it's ok to play 2 weeks like that. if it's 5 weeks recovery why did he play??? If there was concern for his health, why did we rush him back(we do this BS alot) We don't rush anyone else back do we?

D saving? Or doing their job….some

I'm happy they do their job, for the personnel we have they play over their heads and make plays when we need them. Sadly that means bailing a less than stellar offense. I want both a good D that makes plays and a solid O that makes enough plays the D doesn't have to win the games for the offense. Gannon is operating like Schwartz, with VERY FEW super talented players(Slay, Cox and ????). We Invested a boatload in this offense, they should be scoring 35 (or more) points a game

On defense my 2 biggest concerns are 1) Do we have the talent to blitz? EVER? Our are LB's and S's too slow to do this? Is Gannon not calling them because of the lack of talent or fear that our secondary also lacks talent? 2) We used to be known for a devastating pass rush, that is not there again this year. Barnett is as mediocre as they come. We need some guys that play with fire in their guts. On question 1,alot of the answer is Howie doesn't give anyone tools on defense to work with. he fills holes when it becomes so apparent even he can see it,but thats not helping, you need to bring young guys in constantly to replace the old, and you can't do that with lackluster draft picks year after year. Question 2 is fixable and we'd better get on the stick. You can have an "iffy" secondary if you are in the QB's face all day. Our pass rush used to be feared, now it's "yeah well whatever" Need to get that bad boy D line back

Good points I see. After pounding the table for years on end,it seems we finally understand pipelines. We have started that at WR(and I am thrilled we have). We have always been good with TE development, why? Mainly because we kept drafting TE's and when it's time for "next man up" they are ready to fill the shoes of their predecessor. Nice to see, don't stop that. Now we have rook salaried WR's and they are performing as well as anyone we could buy(sans the QB issue). Now we need to keep that going by replacing Reagor. I like Ward, keep him on,but if there is late talent in drafts, keep making your BU's better and the room competing and there won't be a need to scrape the FA barrel. The more positions we can do this at,the better off we will be and we can hand pick the players we want in FA,not just grab some because there a hole due to lack of drafting correctly. So IMO on offense we have the TE pipeline and have started the WR one. Now start on a DB pipeline. Howie needs to do this and he can start this year IMO

Taylor going down put quite a dent in the LBs athletic ability

LOL well we need more than 1 athlete at the position

Yes we do.

Taylor going down made that quite clear

Here's my question. We were stumbling along with the college RPO BS offense and it seemed obvious(at least to me) that approach was not working here. The offense was sporadic at best and AWFUL at worst. Failure to move the ball was costing the defense as they were(once again) playing 40 minutes a game. I started bishing about this week 2 and never stopped bishing. I cant remember if it was week 11 or 12 when I saw this team with the RPO GONE and replaced with PRO style play action. This STOPPED the stupid "linemen downfield" penalties. The O line went back to doing what are suppose to do OPEN HOLES for the RB's and give the QB time to throw, which we could not do despite Luries moronic comment that "we need to throw more". Hurts never had a chance as a QB who can run the show. he simply doesn't have the experience. And when we took the game away from him and went pro style,we all saw the effectiveness of our team increase ALOT. For me personally, that was the DAY that BEGAN Hurts learning curve. before that we were trying to ACCOMODATE HIM not teach him. Now he is LEARNING and I would really love to know who made this long awaited decision

I pretty well disagree with most of this. We still run RPOs. Plenty of teams run them….but success in Miami. We haven’t taken the show away from Hurts. He’s running the show as QB1. Audibles, checks, blocking…..all that.

Our O gets us up by four. D just has to keep them out of the endzone. That’s their job. Keeping them from a field goal is much tougher. The D letting Washington drive all the way down on them was: not great on the D performance. They bailed themselves out by intercepting the pass in the end zone. That’s my viewpoint.

Welp, then I want to hear ZERO complaints about the play calls and you cant tell me Hurts made a big play call change in 1 week, not buying it

Plenty of teams may run them AT TIMES, but they didn't base their entire offense on it like we tried to do. Play action is more effective anyway

We played a QB with ONE weapon on offense(they only have 2 anyway). We should have been up 24 not 4 that is my viewpoint

Sorry, I am not buying this for a second. Hurts didn't wake up one day and say "hey I'm changing the way we do things" That would be Siri. And I think that was backed up when Shew played because he is a PRO style QB, so disagree all day,but even you know it's true

SO, you are willing to risk him playing hurt for that game, but not week 18 when Shew proved he can play just as well???  Does this actually make sense to you?

No this doesn’t make sense to me. Shew is a backup to Hurts. If we need to win….I turn to Hurts. Need to beat the Jets and give QB1 two weeks to heal up enough? Then I turn to Shew. To make the playoffs we had to win. So you go with Hurts…..in a more limited fashion. A dialed back Hurts is still a better option than Shew.

Things did change. Siri got a brain….finally. Plenty on the plate for QB1 in a pro offense. That’s where I’m not getting you so much.

But yes, it absolutely makes sense to me to start Hurts for a must win game against Washington and rest him for a game that means nothing week18. Knowing the next week we need all hands on deck.

Let Shew get all pumped up and hulked up for the game. Have at it. Let the leadership guys rest, laugh and enjoy the show.

Playaction is just a different tool in the box. Playaction the QB turns his back and it delays the pass and the QBs read. RPO….everything is a little more in front of the QB. I’m fine with running both.

One big difference is I believe you leave a edge rusher unblocked with the RPO. So you outnumber the defenders.

If Hurts ankle is only minor I would keep him in the fire.

High ankle sprain! That’s not the minor kind of sprain. There are different levels of that type of sprain even if I remember things correctly. Different degrees. We haven’t been just letting it heal. So what are you risking our chances in the playoff game for week 18? What are you really getting out of it? Try and get the top guys running as close to 100 percent as we can. Huge advantage to rest your guys that extra week.

They’re supposing our Oline could consist of:

LT Andre Dillard
LG Sua Opeta
C Jack Anderson
RG Brett Toth
RT Le’Raven Clark

Maybe have Juriga in there…

Should be the Gainwell show at RB. We have several WR to possibly call up. Would like to get a look at them. Jackson time at TE? Could finally be his breakout moment.
Soooo many DBs to get in the action. Now’s the time. Up things from the practice field. See what we have in the cupboards here. Got a few Dline to get in the action. Probably keep Milton a Go….but add in his draft mate. We got a new guy in the mix this last game. Sweat, Cox and Hargrave rest. Hopefully Bradley is a Go at LB. Great opportunity for him to step in and run things.
