Well Godwin’s injury changes things for me. Tough blow. Ridley would be a great addition I think. Not the ideal pairing. I wouldn’t really call him a number one. He’s also not big. But man….what an upgrade that would be. Smith, Watkins and Ridley would be formidable. Then we could truely go with the matchup. Jalen Ramsey…Revis Island…whatever…,can’t stop that. I think we’ve discussed this similarly but from the defensive cornerback side of things.

Right ....so just think.... Smith , Watkins...and A top WR.... don't care who or how... that's the idea for me, and what I've been saying.   And it's not a 2 year plan either.  You can have that for a while and grow with a young QB.  We have never....EVER had that here.   Part of why I am annoyed... you figure after wasting McNabb for a decade... they wouldn't do the same for Wentz.  Regardless if I think Hurts isn't the guy,I absolutely want to put the WRs in place.

Reagor has been a pretty significant part of our passing problems.

Didn't I say to replace him? Didn't I say that LONG ago(like week 3/4?) If they put me in charge of drafting WR's we will be fine. All Howie has to do is ask me(nicely, with a free cheese steak) I will let you guys pick defense, but I can do WR's and RB's. IDK why, I was a TE LOL. I like both OSU WR's,but I also think you made the point that we need a big body,so Burks is the draft target for that. Jjaw can shine shoes and Reagor can run the hotdog stand. I would also opt for a LATE WR just to make our BU's better overall. Ward is a keeper. Hightower showed something early, but he hasn't been seen since,so I have no clue about what he can do. If you wanted to trade Reagor, I would have NP with it,or keep him on as a rotational piece. That pass to Jjaw was not a drop,he let it go through his hands, for a drop you get skin on the ball and he could not even do that. Clueless as a receiver. Now IDK how NFL ready WR's from Arkansas are, that is why I was opting for OSU or BAMA WR's. Those guys come out ready to roll in the NFL

It helps if you can have the foresight. Who will be available when. Gotta come up with a plan. So who you spending big on? Who you drafting high? Who can you get cheap? You got these things right all in one offseason you can really have a special season.

Was 2 off-seasons in 2016-17... building on a veteran core.   We aren’t there yet,no time for shortcuts.  Done correctly, we could set up the late 20s for a nice run.

We already in the playoffs. Ok I’m kind of kidding here. But I could see this team taking a huge step forward next season. Got huge draft ammo. Got some money for FA. Got the coaches, scheme expectations in place. A great offseason could catapult us.

You know how much that would cost?

Well we have 3 round 1's so what happens??? DO they all get 5th year option contracts? or ONLY your #1 pick?

Godwin was my first thought. But also was thinking like No Mas…a bigger type would be ideal

Why would TB let Godwin walk? And you don't you think other teams would not go after him? You are just assuming he wants to play here.So you'd need to get over those first 2 hurdles

Not much for 4 years LOL.Then if we had 3 with 5th year options we may have to pick ONE  to extend

Yes the "dream team" was just a HUGE success(how many millions was that again?)

Not the right players. Not the building  blocks.   Didn't fill holes... they doubled down on backups.... yet had nothing at LB or S.   The 2016-17 was the time they did things differently. Then right back to the same old stuff trying to be smartest guys in room and not doing things the simple way.  Gotta get back to that... I think 2021 draft was a first step.

WHY????

Difference in a building block or a patch

Draftees are building blocks, FA's are patches(because you picked the wrong building blocks). Of course there are exceptions, but basically this is it

All 1st rounders can be given a 5th year option....but hopefully they sign them after year 3 to get them locked in at lower cap hits.

It's just an idea of an example.

We're Peters,  Runyan, Vincent, Malcolm Jenkins ... patches or part of a core for a decent period of time?

And we are talking about the building blocks, the guys entering their prime, not the patchwork old guys.   Like it we lost Goedert,  would you think the new team would be looking at him as long term answer or patchwork?   These are the FA types to look at with priority in the next couple of years.

Yeah I liked that draft, but then agaun if you saw the vid someone was unhappy with one aof them and avoided Howies fist bump. I would really love to know who that player Howie passed on was

I know, but we're tossing out guys names like they want to leave their team and come here lol and I think you would be hard pressed to find those without overpaying them

I'm not saying to avoid FA. Just use your head. We have no BU secondary players that will be starters anytime soon(draft fail). Maybe we draft some this draft(who knows),so getting FA's is more patchwork. Sometimes those patches hold(like Slay). Still when you get an FA you need to draft HIS replacement and that is where I see the disconnect. Since Howie can't draft secondary, then thats where you need to spend until he gets better at it,or gets lucky. Maybe Howie is still learning, but the big OUCH taking Reagor over JJ was pretty bad. But last time he identified Smith.(I had them both for us). Jjaw was another bad pick,so I am assuming Smith was "luck" and/or it was howies beginning of being able to identify WR's. Jury out on that one

SO,looking at the WR position you can do 2 things. Right now we have an inept speed guy,you can replace that with someone more competent(Olave,Wilson) or you could opt for a bigger possession type like we had with Alshon (That would be Burks). So it really depends on what your long term outlook is for the passing game. For Hurts a guy like Burks would suit him,if you had a Wentz type QB then I would opt for another burner outside. I suppose the "safe" play would be to go after Burks, because he can be helpful for either type QB

The player they did get was Milton in round 3

Besides his drops, Reagor is an awful route runner, but we wanted his straight line speed and hoped he could expand his route tree, but really he is a slow learner, doesn't care,or doesn't have the ability we ASSUMED he did. I will be studying Burks more now. I already know the OSU WR's are top grade, but they are clones of Smith

OK but who was the guy that refused to fist bump Howie? I was just curious to know who he wanted instead. Milton looked promising tonight

Not really tossing out names... it was an example of Diggs 2 years ago and possibly  Godwin this year.  We don't know anything,  just talking different ways to do it and FAs that wouldn't be 30 year old patch jobs.  We don't have to do it this way, just an option if the right guy is there.

  • Round 1, pick 10 (from DAL) – DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama
  • Round 2, pick 37 – Landon Dickerson, C, Alabama
  • Round 3, pick 73 (from CAR) – Milton Williams, DT, Lousiana Tech
  • Round 4, pick 123 – Zech McPhearson, CB, Texas Tech
  • Round 5, pick 150 – Kenneth Gainwell, RB, Memphis
  • Round 6, pick 189 – Marlon Tuipulotu, DT, USC
  • Round 6, pick 191 – Tarron Jackson, DE, Coastal Carolina
  • Round 6, pick 224 – JaCoby Stevens, S, LSU
  • Round 7, pick 234 – Patrick Johnson, OLB, Tulane

I'd like the bigger guy... but not just going on size, just get the guy you think will have the better career and help you win.  Very simple, don't overthink... another 2021 would be nice

So looking at this the first 3 were pretty nice. Zech didn't impress me,but 4th rounders rarely do unless they  grow a few years. loved the gainwell pick-total steal-I had him in round 4

The assumption was a CB, I forget who they mentioned... take a look at the draft and see who went afterwards

I will check out Burks and there are a few others i want to see. I already know the OSU guys and the kid from Bama would be fine additions, but not the "different" ones you want Burks is 6'2 225 I believe
