I have no clue. But if we were to draft 3-4 pieces for our Defense, he might be enticed for the challenge. The dude has shown results in SF and Chicago. I like the Turnover aspect of his coaching....

Think it would have more to do with then just drafting couple guys our scheme would switch to a 34.  Would need another ILB likely two OLBs(more really but need two starters) our DL might be alright but old with Cox Hargrave Milton. Not a ton of depth though

Then you have the odd fits with Sweat Graham and still need the overhaul in the secondary.

I do think if we want to make the switch to a different scheme this is the perfect year to do so though.

SF will not beat GB. JG will most likely make a mistake like MOST other QB's do against GB, because they are down by 3 scores and try to do too much. I am not concerned what he does this week. But if you are, great!

Did you all hear the sound clip from Bowels during the game on Sunday? He said "He can”t Read”. It is worrying when any DC knows a QB cannot read your defenses. You don’t have to disguise anything. Just flush Hurts to his left and he is done.

Look, He has played over 20 games now. He cannot read defenses? This is a real issue. You cannot get better at this by just looking at tape. You need practice to do so. We already know his arm strength is poor. Now he cannot read a defense. He has no feel in the pocket. He tucks the ball after a few seconds and takes off, instead of waiting that extra second to allow someone to get open.

I think most of us have known this(1 read and run). If that's the case we're never going anywhere

Even at the wurst this makes the case to stick with him. At 23 he still can learn plenty. He’s already proven to be an average to above NFL QB. These are very fixable issues in my mind. Several of them to improve on. He’s known as living and breathing football. A hard worker. So he’ll obviously improve in these coachable areas. Coach gets to talk to him over the earpiece. So that is even more concerning if Siri is the one not recognizing.

Todd Bowles is a top NFL DC. Not many QBs going to be ready for him. He’s been especially good on young QBs. He did a great job of exposing Hurts flaws. Now the kid needs to work and improve his weaknesses. Always the hardest part for any NFL player. You come in with your gifts. Then your weaknesses get exposed. Can you learn and overcome them….or at least minimalize them. Learning to read defenses can be taught. Very coachable stuff that all young players go through.

Yes... " he's a hard worker, he will get better"   at some point when you are talking about the basic skills at a job, stuff you should know how to do, at what point is it that you just can't do it?

I say next year...  IMO it's tough.   Tough for a short QB to see. Tough for a weak arm to make all the throws, especially ones that the timing is off.  Tough for a running QB to sit and wait for people to get open, when in the back of your mind you can run. You've been running your whole life and it was enough while playing amateur ball.   Those are tough things to overcome.

The QB with the natural instinct to play the position correctly,  waiting or a guy to get open, scanning the field,  and then using athletic ability to keep the play alive, they have the edge on improving because they really don't need to sacrifice anything.   Telling a running QB to wait and stay in the pocket is tough. Especially when their running is why they are a professional QB in the first place.

It would be easier if we were talking nuances of the position or adjusting to better level of play.  But these are basic 101 skills.

NOT going to debate this with you Ham. If you cannot recognize the problem, then no use continuing the subject.

This is Tom Brady stuff. He’s seen everything a guy like Bowles can throw at you. Bowles is known as the heaviest blitzing DC, right? To think that a 23 year old has hit his ceiling at reading the best of the best DC…..just feels like your obviously against the kid. Learning to read defenses is an obvious maturing for any kid coming into the NFL. I absolutely think he can learn this area and improve. This falls in the fixable/coachable box.

Reading top NFL defenses should be a given out of every NFL QB at 23….gotcha! I’d say that every QB that could do that….at that age….becomes a coach. OC then probably even HC.

That’s just an obvious area to work on for every single NFL Qb at 23. Every single one.

But did he read high school defenses...did he read college defenses... or did he just run when option 1 wasn't there.  Which works with his running ability in amateur football.

You are already looking at the exotic stuff...I'm talking basic. He doesn't have the basic skills, that's why I think it will be tough for him.   It's playing the sport in a completely different way, not an easy thing to do.

He doesn't have to just learn how to read a defense... he has to learn how to learn how to read a defense while sacrificing his absolute best skill.

From there, he still has arm issues.   It will be tough for the kid.  Like I said, if he gets a 2nd contract in the NFL, that is success.

Just more crazy off the wall hate. Hurts has shown enough that he will play year five(earn a second contract). Ridiculous to even suggest otherwise. No credibility from these kind of statements.

So to sacrifice running, which could sacrifice success both individually and for the team... that's what is needed to put himself in position to begin to read defenses.    How would that work for the team.  And for a kid fighting to stay a starter and get a 2nd contract?

It's not as simple as it would be for a standard style QB.

Ok... we just disagree.   He runs, that is what he has shown.  He continues to run, he won't put himself in position to learn how to read defenses.  It will be harder for him.   He is already behind with his arm strength,  that's a lot to ask from the kid.

But we don't have to keep beating a dead horse..the proof will come on the field.   We all agree, or most of us, let's see him get another chance than to make a huge investment elsewhere at the moment.   Better teammates should also help raise his level of play. But the bar goes up as he gets closer to needing a new contract.

Most athletes live mostly on their athleticism until they are forced to adapt.  A few super special elite maybe can do it on all levels. This is just standard athlete stuff. Gotta learn more at each higher level because you can’t out athlete them as much. We’ve seen he can still use his superior athleticism. Now he just needs to learn the mental part of the game. Like I’ve stated, the usual for every QB coming in. Can Siri and Steichen get this done? Can they teach their QB1 to read defenses to see what they see? This is big stuff to help the team. QB, Oline and receivers all on the same page would be massive. Imagine taking a NFL starting QB and just needing him to understand reading defenses.  His bar should be skyrocketing if this is a big area holding him up.

Yes we absolutely disagree. I think he’s shown he has twenty great things to check off the needed box for a QB1. He has good arm strength…not elite. Learning to read defenses is arguably one of the most coachable areas. This doesn’t discourage me. In many ways it encourages me. He’s already being rated 15th best QB. Easy to see him going up with good coaching and experience. Improve JJAW/Reagor and the kid will skyrocket.

He is on par with Shew, did Shew get a 5 year starting gig? The talent level is roughly the same,it's just we choose Hurts because he was Howie's pick. I'm with Joe, he could end up a BU somewhere(even here which is why he was drafted in the first place)

No, No Mas said he won’t earn a second contract in the NFL. Just no credibility behind these kind of statements.
