I'm thinking you need to start with the definition of "committee".

committee

kə-mĭt′ē

noun

  1. A group of people officially delegated to perform a function, such as investigating, considering, reporting, or acting on a matter.
  2. A person to whom a trust or charge is committed.
  3. One or more individuals to whom the care of the person or estate of another, as a lunatic, an imbecile, an inebriate, or an infant in law, is committed by the judge of a competent court.

I’m fine if others have different definitions than me. I won’t go against that. I just see it differently. Doesn’t make me right…or others wrong there. If you believe coming into block and taking a bunch of snaps at RB fir that purpose makes you part of a committee than it is. I saw Sanders step up big time this season to become the clear cut starter. Keep him fresh to tote the rock.

Don’t want to wear down our elite rusher blocking. Or once the game is in hand.

Sanders weakness is clearly blocking also.

Not being a wise arse. Just stating how I approach this subject.

So what’s your opinion on it?

The FOX broadcast team for the Eagles-49ers NFC Championship Game at 3 p.m. on Sunday is Kevin Burkhardt, Greg Olsen, Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi.

Thank God! I was hoping we didn't draw Buck, Aikman or the like.

Pretty shocking they are now considered the lead team

Good or bad?

Isn’t bad. We’ve had a good record when he’s been involved

Only got two small penalties in first cowboys game he officiated

If all of the RB's are sharing the load in the rushing the ball, whether it be 1 snap or 20 snaps, then they were part of the committee.

It shows. Then for CBS my lead team is Nantz & Romo.

I’m fine with everybody having their own viewpoints on it. I’ve always considered it more of a real sharing the  load. Like how they use in speaking fantasy football. Every stud starting RB has some backup take a snap here and there. When fantasy guys or others refer to RBBC it means their pretty much isn’t a lead guy.

Would Shady only be on the field just over half the snaps?    Not a good blocker at all... in fact high ole block got Vick injured vs ATL.

That elite rusher stayed in the game.

He isn't an elite rusher... way behind the leader.

Shady MCCoy was just a starter to me. A backup will still come in at times. But never considered him part of any committee.

Committee to me means no real lead guy dominating. Like Blount and Ajayi sharing…go with whoever is hot that day. But also add in a scat back like Sproles.

Correct.  He stayed on the field on all the key plays.  More than half the snaps.

Sanders is fifth leading rusher this year. I’m calling that elite.

Right...because you are limiting the RB position to just rushing the ball.  In 2022 it's a different game than 1975.  Even at that point,a RB coming off for half the snaps was rare.

I didn’t say Sanders was a Bell Cow back. Or anything. He isn’t that.

Henry and some of those guys needed to add up many carries. Thrived on it

400 yards behind the leading rusher... not close to being the best...big droppoff from top 3 and well within the top 10 range...not elite at all.  Especially if you are making the case how he dominates the carries.

Sanders does great with  much lesser work load than Zeke early days or his teammate Barkley. Saquan didn’t want to come off the field.

But to me there was a very clear pecking order. Sanders was clearly the lead back. That’s why I don’t consider it committee

I have zero problem with you or anybody else having a differing opinion on RBBC definition.

When guys speak of it about teams…or fantasy wise. They don’t mean a backup comes in to block. They usually talk about it like there is no clear cut starter. So it’s risky to count on him. Sanders clearly the lead back. We run a ton most games. So their are touches to go around.

If I disagree then according to Cook I’m just arguing. Top five elite RB is what I said. You call it your way.

In TD and FL definition they’d seemingly consider The Fridge as part of a committee with Walter. I don’t know many people see it that way.

3 elite rushers this year...over 1500 yards...  Sanders at 1269 is 255 yards behind the 3rd guy.      And 262 yards in front of the 16th guy.

Basically same distance between #3 and #16.      The top 3 are your elite standouts this year.

It's not the same each year.  For example ...there were years in the 90s where Dallas and 49ers were your 2 elite teams.    This year you could put 5 teams in that group.

Top 5 doesn't mean elite each year...some years could even be 6 or more in an elite group.  Depending upon the results.     When 3 RBs are over 1500 yards ..12 guys between 1000- 1269... the guy at 1269 isn't really part of that elite group.

Ajayi, Blount and Sproles that’s a committee approach to me. How I’ve always seen it.

That definition means everybody always has been a RBBC

I’m actually fine with this point. We’ll call him just very very good then.

To me clearly the main guy was the point

Right they share the work load .... committee..with Sanders the lead guy in the committee.   You can have a lead guy within the group. Sanders is ideal in that role because then he gets to come out on big game changing plays.

A role I'm not paying $8 million.  And if I lose free agents elsewhere, it has zero affect on my decision.   I can't make a bad decision at a position because of what happens at other positions...especially if those other positions on opposite sides of the ball.   What happens  at CB and S,shouldn't cause me to overpay my RB. That's bad business.

Gainwell’s 240 yards wasn’t just being a backup. It was him just sharing the lead role with Sanders, I guess you’d consider. Or just considering snaps played blocking?

I’m fine with disagreeing on RBBC.

  • Author

A guy like Sproles or other scat backs could always be used with a lead rusher. Extra piece with his own role. I never considered that part of any committee.
