But at what point does someone need to seriously question what is going on? Why does this team need to be backed in to a corner to start fighting?

I think over the last three seasons we have struggled with injuries early, and the team has improved as it has gotten healthier and younger players have gotten better. So it's not as much about being backed into a corner as much as it has been the team being better at the end of the year than the beginning.

This year the key for us is how competitive we will be against the best teams in the NFC - Seattle, NO, Green Bay and Arizona. We will be largely healthy, and if we can't keep up with those teams this year, we won't be able to do so in the immediate future.

The bye week should be a great week to get an idea what to do on the OL moving forward.

If Semaulo isn’t close to returning then looking at JP at G should be considered....Driscoll will he be healthy could give us a swing T if we opt to move JP..

Would we look at Driscoll at G??? Is another option could stick with Pryor as well. Think the goal needs to be getting the best 5 guys on the field though.

5 best to me that I know are healthy are... Mailata/JP/Kielce/Herbig/Lane

Would like to see us get Hurts more involved as well think he does a good job being a spark plug for the O. But we have to be willing to let him sling it can’t just use his legs.

If you do that you have to stop putting Wentz out as a WR. They MAY throw to him once but the defender out there knows he isn't getting the ball

Mmmm might not respect Wentz as much of a WR bit think he does command the attention of a defender since there is always the threat of some kinda trick play.... But I’d be perfectly fine having Hurts having formations without Wentz on them as well.

So the subject nobody here wants to talk about: Travis Fulgham contract. We have him for 675K for one season. So how do we proceed going forward? Our team is totally capped out next year(as we all know). So this is tricky. Because the team needs to shed old vet contracts. Our GM failed to pull the trigger on trades to make that happen. If you are Fulgham’s agent...why sign a new contract? Free agency would be a boon for him. Our only option would be to Franchise Tag him. Of coarse that takes up the most cap room possible for next season. Not a good option for us. A long term contract is our best option. Then we can do the regular ‘Rosie Magic Contract.’ Backload the heck out of it. Sorry to bring up the Monster in the Room....even if everybody hasn’t considered it yet.

He's not a free agent after the season.

I heard he signed two years

Wouldn't it be crazy if we traded Fulgham for a 3rd next year?

Anyone think Nate Gerry will make any tackles this week?

Since we are on a bye, and Gerry is on IR, my guess is that he will make as many tackles as anyone else on the team.

As far as trading Fulgham, I think that is about as likely as Gerry making a tackle this week.

Thing is... Say this team does improve after the bye. Say it handles NY, beats Dallas and Washington and then picks up a couple of surprise results during that tough run... That is great and testament to everyone for that. But at what point does someone need to seriously question what is going on? Why does this team need to be backed in to a corner to start fighting?

Or you could look at the actual players that were on the field in the first part of the year .. musical chairs all over the offense... guys who never started or even played a down of NFL football ... and certainly never played together.     If you look at New England over the years... they always played better as the season went on.   if anything thats a good sign of the coach figuring out how to us his players the more he gets to see them.

While I have always said that 2017 had underrated talent and depth across the board... they also got to play with each other and get the work in right from the first offseason workouts,  they stayed healthy and the chemistry was stable all season.  That's big in football.

We need to be more inventive on Offense and Defense. Seems like we are predictable and easy to game plan against. Probably cannot be done this year, but changes are needed on both sides of the ball. Hide, or at least make an effort to hide your blitzes. Use the same formations with pre snap movement for a variety of plays designed to exploit the opposing team. This is not rocket science, but it sure seems to be a hard concept for Doug and Jim.....

Gets easier to do the more time the players have in the system.

LOL ... what year is he in?  He wouldn't be some kind of restricted FA????     He needs a big contract right away after a few games???  Farthest thing from my mind at this point.  Maybe this calms the monster in the room a little.... LOL

Wow. Love some of the optimism here. Raise my eyebrow to some of the other comments.

Trade deadline is past but I have been swamped with work so I have been catching up reading posts tonight. Trade Lane Johnson or Fletcher Cox? Really? Relegate this team to virtually NO team leaders outside of the QB beyond 2021? Bad idea! HORRIBLE idea! This team has RARELY won over the past 5 years when Lane cant go. Fletcher Cox is 1/2 the defense! So I’m REALLY glad the front office did NOT consider those suggestions. Alshon and DJax, you will be able to pick them up for NOTHING next year.

Ertz? Boy, we as fans have short memories. The dude has been the passing game the last couple of years.

Onto the next issue....the Eagles QB, whom I really like, by the way. Wentz has been horrid! No excuses. Some were excusing the WIND. The WIND! Ahhhh, how about dont throw a rainbow PRAYER when the wind is an issue. There’s a thought.

The fumbles? Dude, your line is on THIRD string guys. You CANNOT hold onto the ball so long.

These are simple things.

Lastly, let’s not kid ourselves. This Eagles team is bad, below average. I detest the Cowpies so much that I NEVER want the Eagles to lose to them. But do I really want the Eagles to win the division THIS year and have a first place schedule and lower draft pick? No way! This team has ZERO chance of going anywhere vs good teams that will make the playoffs. Be honest now; watching the two wins vs NFC EAST foes, after the game I sat there and thought, BOTH OF THESE TEAMS SUCK!

Sen,
With you on Cox and Lane.      Alshon and DeSean are must cuts next year.   Ertz, love that dude... but time to go. I'm not forgetting 2018 and even prior to that at all... but for 2020, he's not the same, going forward he won't get any better and he doesn't help block in 2 TE sets and doesn't give you YAC.  Not worth the cap space, especially being he wants more $$$$.

Do we want the Eagles to make the playoffs?  Well, Who else do you see winning 6 games in our division?     We win 2 more games that is 5 wins plus a tie?   Do you want to see the team ( with the young players that we hope develop) NOT win 2 more games?    Do you think a complete collapse is a better sign for these young kids, the coach and the QB going forward?    I would agree with you if I thought they needed to win say 9 games to get in... but 2 possibly 3 more should be enough.

What I am hoping for... for just this season.... they expand the playoffs to 16 teams... being that we will have the worst record of all the playoff teams, if we lose like you expect ... we would pick 17th ... thats not too bad at all.    Better feeling than knowing one of the other teams within the division, with their young players and first year coach/system did better than us, so we could move up 7 slots in the draft.   We go into next year doubting everything, including the mental toughness of our young players.  I don't think either way there is any illusion that there isn't a long way to go for the team to get back to being a SB contender.

The 16 team playoff idea comes with a caveat. They want to get rid of auto home field advantage for winning the division. That is directly aimed at us having a crappy record and not wanting us to host a game. So I’m against that. Bad timing. Directly trying to screw us.

They want to make it completely based on record. Honestly I kind of get it and like it...but not this year. That’s the homer coming out in me as they are looking at the NFC a East and saying nobody is worthy.

They stayed healthy? Did they? I seem to recall they were hit with injuries to several key players.

I love how they try to change the rules in the middle of the game.

You eventually have to beat the top teams anyway.   We won't have legit home field advantage without the full crowd.  We need 4 wins to win a SB.   Why would it bother you if the loss is to a #1 seed on the road instead of #5 at home?   Isn't it better to go out vs a better team?

Yes..  they stayed healthy in the sense injuries were no more than one player to a unit.   OL they used Big V and rotated Seamulo and Wiz at LG.  Only 7 guys, with keeping it 6 out of those 7 when we used the extra OL.  All had prior NFL experience.  This year we went to OL #13 on the depth chart, I don't know if we have had the same starting 5 in any 2 games yet, or if that lineup actually finished the game.

The WRs were completely healthy all the way through, think Smith missed one game. Ertz missed one or two games..that's it.  RB position was healthy, Sproles was your only injury as a backup,  not the prominent role Sanders is supposed to have.  Both TEs have missed time this year , WRs in and out.

No where near the same continuity in practice like it was for the offense in 2017.

So looking at this team getting healthier will be huge but the biggest issue of all is Wentz. He has to protect the ball he is playing way to reckless.

The OL hasn’t been great but like the first fumble vs Dallas that is solely on Wentz not the OL he can’t keep making plays like that. Just get rid of the ball don’t take the unnecessary sack and for the love of god hold onto the football.

There are other plays of him just making a dumb play the heave across his body vs the giants is another example

I think this is true, but at the same time we are still an offense that is integrating a lot of new parts and constantly swapping out starters for subs.

Even now, we don't know if Jeffery is finally going to play, where and for how long Peters is going to play and when we will have Lane, Seumalo, Ertz and Sanders back.

That makes it hard for an offense, and especially hard for the qb.

A lot has been made of Wentz's struggles, but I think we should hold off all judgement until we see how the team is playing at the end of the season once some of the starters return.

Keep in mind, we were considered to be relatively healthy for the Cowboys, and we were still missing five players who were projected to be starters at the beginning of the season. We can't expect Wentz to simply show up and start running an offense perfectly with so many new faces. Sure, his mistakes are concerning, but they are mistakes he is making while trying to carry the team. Once things settle down and some familiar faces start returning, I am sure we will see an improvement.

The offensive line will be better the second half, and I am excited to see Miles, Fulgham, Reagor, Goedert and Jeffery/Ertz/Hightower/DJax on the field together. If we get all of those pieces back and Wentz still struggles playing behind a healthy oline, I would worry. But until that happens, I would dial back the panic-meter.

It’s one thing to have miscues or Wentz getting hit while trying to throw he can’t step up etc. vs When just holding the ball taking a sack and fumbling instead of throwing it away when nobody is open. Or throwing into double/triple coverage, throwing opposite side of the field across his body. Those have nothing to do with new parts or players those are the things I’m looking at things he can solely control

These are new problems, however, especially the interceptions. That's why I am not worried about them. Once he gets some stability on the offense, I expect them to stop.

Consider this, in 2018, we had 7 out of 10 non-qb offensive starters play more than 70 percent of the team's snaps.

In 2019, that number was five.

This year, it is one - Kelce. The only two other players who have played over 70 percent of the snaps on offense are Herbig and Ward, who both projected as backups before the season (Herbig wasn't even a lock for the roster.)

Here are the snap percentages for our other projected starters - Sanders, 44, DJax, 28, Reagor, 25, Ertz, 65, Goedert, 31, Lane, 52, Peters, 51, Seumalo, 16, Dillard, 0.

Sometimes the easy answer is the right one. We have dealt with an unprecedented amount of injuries on offense, and our qb has made uncharacteristic errors in trying to compensate. Once we get some stability, I am sure those errors will cease.
