I'm also seriously(ok Joe bash me if you want) not thrilled with the punter talent we brought in. Seems like he sucks too. Been no reporting about him,so it's not like he's setting things on fire. Like to get better there also, especially after the weak SB showing at the position. Gotta man up when you're in the big games

Yeah...I'm not thrilled with the punter talent we brought in either.  Why bash you when all reports say our guy from last year is winning the battle and not close.   Hard to argue.

Julian Edlemen, Wes Welker, Danny Amendola, and the little dude for the Raiders...  you see them as speed guys?   Or more so guys that are quick?

DeSean and Quez, great top end speed... but not quickness coming out of breaks.

There is a difference between getting open immediately with a guy on you in a small space...vs pulling away from a DB 40 yards down field.

One is quickness... the other is speed.

I always look more at cone drills than flat out speed at the combine. I have a set time that cuts them off for me,then I go to cone drills. Important as an outside guy as well

Yeah, after the dismal SB showing I just expected them to be more aggressive bringing competition in

All those guys are clutch guys. Quez is basically BU talent IMO,but noone else challenged to start,so there he is. maybe this new guy does it better and as I said I am fine with Quez in BU role. I'm rather surprised we waited this long to challenge him,but the drop off was rather noticeable and he continues to drop at clutch time,so any guy with better hands is an upgrade

With a basketball background and playing a lot growing up in the backyard... I look at the guys who can get open quickly.   Those are tough covers...and easier throws for the QB.

They come into play on 3rd down and goal line.  Situations that actually count towards wins and losses.

I don't look at combine stuff.  The jump and the cone though show explosion and quickness in change of direction.  I like those more than anything in that atmosphere.  But really not interested in combine drills much.

The 40 times especially... it's from a track stance which doesn't come into play at all in a game.

So...

1.  Why draft Smith?   Simple, BPA in the position of need.

2.  I absolutely agree...Quez ideal spot is to backup Smith.

And yes, with the dude from ATL... he can play slot,... as a receiver more so that Pascal was more for blocking.

Again... for me, I would have preferred the no doubt starter in that role... the guy who is both the clear best option over Quez, ATL guy, Darnold, Stoll...etc... who would have also been seen as limited drop off if one of the 2 main guys goes out.

One guy all in one... instead we lost the blocker Pascal...but got the better slot weapon with the ATL guy.   The extra year experience for the other guys also is a upgrade in my eyes.

But.... I'm seeing it as a slight upgrade with potential...not the guaranteed huge upgrade that would have been say with a top free agent or draft pick.

It is what it is .... for now.

After all the guys we lost,I'm fairly happy that(it appears) that there won't be a huge drop off. Need a few to step up,but really we look ok after all the player losses

Look at the punt again... without bias.  Tell me the slippery field wasn't a factor on the punt coverage.  Look at what the result should have been.

Absolutely not a great punt...but no where near what you guys are making it out to be.

I look just to compare. it's a microcosm of what to expect and they are under alot of pressure because they are spotlighted individually,so for me it's just another tool to use before your selection

Both teams played on the same field

And what was the goal of the 2020 draft ...was speed.  That's why Reagor and Quez were taken.  Probably same with Hurts and Taylor.

If it turns out that Hurts was a lucky pick simply because they were looking at speed...then great.

We know that they went away from that stupidity of just speed in these next 3 drafts...and more so to winning players with football skills.   PHEW!!!

Quez outlasted Reagor here,so that tells you how bad the Reagor pick was LOL

I'm also thinking we use RB's as more of a pass threat than we used to. All our RB's can catch(IDK about Penny there)

Right... yet you think it's coincidence that our DL slipped 29 times.. and 6 unblocked guys couldn't make a tackle on the punt?

Again though...easy Google " Toney punt return in Superbowl " ... watch it, stop and start, slow it down.   Look at the distance of the punt, the coverage, the movement of the players on that field... and see if the punt itself was really that bad.  Really takes a minute.

Yeah our pass rush wasn't there, that was a big thing for us. Yet we led at the 1/2 in spite of that and collapsed in the second with some help from bad reffing. Just key plays we lost on. Like Falco,we got into the "quicksand"

Boston Scott.....just like cowbell...we needed more of him.   🪘

Lots of missed tackles. Toney only played 8 snaps all game(2 on ST's) but he destroyed us

It was a good game, they deserved to win(as sad as it sounds) I was starting to celebrate LOL. I got quiet real fast

Should have gone after Punt God after he was cleared.

Where did he end up?

I believe in punting out of bounds. Why even give an opportunity for a return?

It worked so well for Tom Caughlin in 2010

Still my favorite game to rewatch
