Its NEVER unnecessary to get quality backups on the O line.

Depends on the contract and if you consider Kelly to be a quality backup.

Ham has obviously never played O line.

In case of injury you make as few moves as possible to fill the gap.

O linr more than any other position group demands you know what the guy next to you is gonna do before he does it.

It will interest me to see(first) If Jurgens sticks at RG ,then (2) if they let him take snaps at C in garbage time. IDK who would be the emergency C if Kelce went down and if he is the "heir" maybe some snaps in a real game would be beneficial. I mean he has big shoes to fill

I’d guess it depends on the amount of time Kelce would miss if he got injured…. If he was set to miss half the year or the entire season could definitely see us shuffle the OL and move Jurgens to C 

If Kelce went down and was going to miss rest of a game or a week I’d image we plug someone else in at C to limit the OL shuffling. Pretty sure Toth had taken C reps for us.

Good move getting Kelly on the cheap,because Dickerson was also drafted as a C. So say Jurgens can't cut it,we could still move Dickerson to C and put Kelly in his spot by Mailata. I love this type planning covering all the bases. Not only has Howies draft turned this team around,so has his foresight as to what depth we need. of course you never get it perfect,but Howies been doing an amazing job the last 3 years. At one time I wanted him booted,but he did a 180 and never looked back. Kelly can play all the O line positions(and has) except for C,so the versatility may come into play. He's seasoned and knows the 4 spots. Although he is 33 he is still a good BU who can start IMO. Now I want to see how we use the RB's and I still believe in Penny and that Swift will play even better here than he did in Detroit. People can bash our defense(but I believe we will shock people how good we are),but this offense is going to kick everyone all over the field. Still would like to see Sermon spelling Penny. Gains spelling or splitting with Swift. This is going to be a fun offense to watch

Think you have to weigh the options. Who you putting at LT if Mailata goes out then? Brought in two possibilities. But currently I was thinking move Lane to LT and Driscoll takes over RT. Think that gives the optimum five guy line. I don’t think you just shove Driscoll in at LT…,he’s only looked good on the right.

I didn’t ever say I was against adding Oline help. Just was against Risner. Whole league has the book on the guy. He’s not a better option than what we already have. Kelly could be a wise signing. Older. But just talking this one year as a backup. See what he’s got left.
