I'm ok with scrapping the RPO so the RB can go right out to the flat...   again, it's a big reason to me in why we didn't see " check downs"

Fake habdoff, means defender is right there on the RB... he isn't just going to leave and let him get to the flat all alone.

We had decades of west coast offense... lots of RBs in the flat,  much different in RPO style.

How often did we use the RPO last season? Interesting stat. I’d image it was less then 50%

Do they? Again I love to see him run and get out no hit happens…. But again see plenty he steps out and the hit still happens

Point being there is such a risk with the QB running anytime he runs…. And not just Hurts but any running QB

251 plays... 20%....Eagles ranked 3rd in the NFL.

Sanders 20 catches for 78 yards... Scott 5 catches for 15 yards

25 catches for 93 yards...

Reasons we didn't see too many checkdowns

It just such a fine line and I get the value of the run from the QB but I also see the negative are those yards worth it if an injury happens?

To me way less on pass scrambles.  Hurts isn't Vick... taking bad hits on 30 yard gains.    I'm good with less QB keepers that end up with him in the middle of the field.

Is it 20% isn’t that much that leaves 80%

Agree...we just differ on the plays.

80% on runs and passes.

It’s definitely less risk on pass scrambles are you going to say there wasn’t time the check down wouldn’t have been the better option? Definitely seen Hurts take hits v the check down.

Again my point the next progression knowing hey that check down is better then me taking a hit for an extra yard

And how many of those 20% RPOs were runs like not every RPO was a pass in that 20%

No I definitely think the design runs are more risky I’m just not going to sit here and act like Hurts hasn’t taken hits even when he is stepping out that risk is there.

Yeah...I'm not seeing taking a hit for an extra yard.  If he scrambles to the outside... I'm seeing him get significantly more yardage... and really not taking " hits"

He checks down while in the pocket... he might still take the hit.

Look it's semantics really... we both agree we don't want him to run as much.

I'm just more focused on other options that can get legit yards.   Not forfeit check downs.

In theory I agree with you.. watching the games I'm struggling to remember me saying... " Hurts should have checked that down"

Wentz was different because he took more difficult throws down field and passed  up more yards.

If I'm playing against Hurts, Lamar, Fields, etc... I'd want them to check down all day.  My fear from them is getting burned by a long scramble.  If they had 15 designed QB runs, not going to scare me as much, and I'll look to hit the QB.   On these long scrambles, we gotta catch the QB first.  Tough to lay a hit when just focusing on the chase.

Agree in theory.. just struggling to remember a time where he got hit on a scramble that scared me.

To me...I'm looking more ar Swift and Gainwell doing some damage in the pattern... impact plays.

I'm ok if others are focused on the check down.   I just don't see that changing.  Just my opinion.

Woody and I used to disagree all the time on this.   He just looked at size... i look at the skill set.   Westbrook and Sproles for example.. both excellent short yardage RBs.   They had a nose for the 1st down.

Fast doesn't necessarily equal ability to run a route.   Size doesn't necessarily equal ability to break tackles or block.

LOL

You and Woody would argue on what color the sky is

I would go with blue.  That was a problem for him.

He can catch. Seattle didn't exploit that much,I hope we DO. He's not going on a 40 yard route, but he can run 15 yarders

Hurts has been the opposite of Captain Checkdown! Seems obvious RB passes, especially to Swift, are going to increase this season. I’d prefer Hurts thriving looking more downfield though. Don’t get too cute focusing too much on trying to have Hurts eyes averting too quickly towards little RB dumpoff stuff. Plus watching downfield coverage more I believe assists his ability to read when to just tuck and run it himself.

Agree... big jump from having a 20 catch 78 yard RB... Swift is huge improvement over Sanders.

Really I feel the whole offense should open up and breathe more now that they don't feel the need to give a guy like Sanders the ball so much.  There is is no " let's give the ball to little brother so he feels special" type thing now.

Can't wait til the season starts.

This doesn’t make much sense to me. Swift was thrown away by his team. Sanders was All Pro last season. Swift isn’t considered an improvement by anybody …but I guess now you.

Sanders rookie season he went for 50 catches and over 500 yards

Yeah. ..Sanders was not all pro.  Let's relax there.

Wasn't talking about dump offs.I was talking about a designed play we can use

Two of Swift’s three seasons he had less catches than Sanders did his rookie season. The pass catching specialized back less catches than the guy you labeling can’t be a receiver. Swift has gone for more yards receiving total and per reception I fairly concede.
