If only anybody else here could have enough foresight to envision that this team should have been improving. It absolutely was a possible scenario. Like how the Niners added the top FA to improve their squad. That after investing in McCaffrey at the deadline.

Back in the day we saw it coming down to these contending teams adding Neon Deion to their contending teams window.

Crucial to be capable to buy that last missing piece that should be glaring. Because it’s not based on theory and hypotheticals. It’s based on the exact situation of your team. All the cheap quality player FA finds and draft picks that pan out. The undrafted players that work out. Those players are the goal to find. But then it’s not so much about just getting value on a player. Or taking the BPA in the draft. Then you gotta finish the job. Once your contending team is established…..you self scout. You just need to identify what is the main missing piece or two. Then you gotta buy that guy. Not about getting a steal on hoping you get lucky a guy works out. It’s just absolutely about getting that guy to upgrade the weakness that brings the parade.

That key missing piece/addition….time comes…gotta get that right. That’s the expensive part. Niners pulling in McCaffrey and Hargrave type answers. Not the Morrow and Penny wishing well moves.

This blind following of our GM by some does surprise me. Rosie deserves plenty of praise. I’m not saying otherwise on that. But his ways have flaws. Much of the league doesn’t have the job security and options Rosie is afforded. Many GM are forced to take lesser long term team paths. They have to roll out a team that wins. So they must make moves plenty just to try and get their squad to 8 wins…or maybe even sneak in playoffs. Half the league makes the postseason now. Because very high percentage of GMs get their job because the guy before got fired. Which equates to taking over an unfavorable job beggining.

So they have to ship out a top player just to unscrew the previous regimes cap constraints…so they can do anything towards roster building.

  • Author

So most GM are dealing with another’s guys mess. That’s the usual baggage dealt a new GM. Probably looks like cap problems combined with personnel problems. The new GM at least gets the pick his guy at coach.

  • Author

But job security isn’t even remotely a thought. It’s a desperate spot where the GM is forced to improve his franchise. Quickly. GM gets more rope to operate than HC do. But that just equals not getting canned first year. Year two team better be on the winning side of the margin.

Those GMs aren’t building the franchise long term to win SB. Can’t even breathe enough to consider that path. Choke down the bad baggage the guy before left waiting that sunk his career.

  • Author

They have to suck up decisions that can get their team just winning. Now. Four years…and it pays off for their replacement…to look good. Which just makes the GM that actually set it up look worse,

  • Author

That’s where it kind of ticks me off what Rosie has been doing. He had the job security afforded to do things right.

  • Author

He instead clusterF-d the whole thing so bad…he couldn’t even be fired. No quality GM candidate would choose that situation. He set it up so bad…he was the only one that could dig out of the 2020 hole. You know…not talking three years of just pathetic to suck up to right the path forward.

This team started completely over in 2021. But already had the franchise QB in place. Having Hurts saving the situation can’t be overstated. Being in a position needing to find that Franchise Leader is the usual main roadblock teams face in that situation.

  • Author

What sense does the entire big picture franchise plan make to completely start over in 2021 cap strapped? 2020 we had a blind man at GM to sink the franchise so hard for that season. Strapped the franchise future for what? Optimistically…even. Win the division? Couldn’t have even dreamed of that squad accomplishing anymore than that.

So 2017 Championship window was one year. Could argue that 2018 repeat was possible. Lesser squad …but with luck it could have happened.

  • Author

But steady decline after that one top contending season.

  • Author

This isn’t from bad luck…or really anything other than a predictable result of Rosie approach to his job.

Inevitable results. I would say a blind man could see…but clearly many are in denial.

Yes injury does keep you sidelined. Both were injured and you cant compete for your job in the mash tent,so you lose the start due to injury not because you were beat out

I think the motivation is you get a chance to play for a Superbowl.   Regardless of the " starting" status or $$$....  this could be the only time you get to experience this.   When you are 50 years old that's what you are going to remember.... not if you started 2 out of your 8 years in the league or of you made an extra million.

If you don’t care so much then no need to reply. But it’s been going on for a long time now with the Niners. Had this incredible team setup. Great coaches. Advanced metrics have the Niners rated as the most injured team. They’ve lost the most snaps due to injury league wide.

In the last 7 seasons...

Two  ....1st place

Two .... 3rd place

Three.... 4th place

Yea...for a while now...you have been obsessed about an organization that defines mediocrity.

Everything counts

Injuries and having bad QBs.

They do it the hard way...by building a 1970s team with RB and LB... then it's not surprising they get the results they do.  That is going to lead to more injurues... and less success vs the upper level teams without that stud QB.

If the Niners made a good decision at QB all this time….they’d have multiple Lombardis. They have really been the picture boys for how important getting the QB person is. They’ve wasted so much on trying to force any QB answer.  Crazy! They are this stacked…after throwing away so many draft picks towards QB.

Think about this post and how ridiculous this sounds.

The organization made brutal choices regarding the most important position.

Which when looking at the fact that they haven't won a SB....  my response would be...." YA THINK!"

That's like admiring a man for having an ok life.... because he married a total idiot...and saying " that dude would have a great life, if he just married the right person"

You idolize two organizations...  Dallas who can't manage the cap.... and SF who can't pick a QB.

Yet you constantly bash the Eagles GM... because of such little dumb details.

It's hilarious.

It's like .. you plan a wedding and focus on getting the best napkins.   You gotta take care of the basics first.  The steak or the substance.

You focus on the sizzle and the flash.  Grass is always greener.

It's hilarious an Eagles fan being any kind of envious of the 49ers.   Especially these last 7 seasons.
