If " Jerruh" simply offered Dak a better deal.. after year 3. Give the extra 5 mil per year... and use year 4 to absorb the signing bonus... like the Eagles did with McNabb, Vick, Wentz, Hurts... then their cap would be in much better shape.

You give your player every opportunity to succeed....you pay him early.. and you save cap.

Hurts has to perform at a $72 million cap hit over the next 4years... the other starters  need to perform to justify double that. You think Daniel Jones is going to do that?  Which QB will be worth double Hurts.   Even if Hurts is mediocre... nobody will be worth double.

Dak wasn’t an elite level QB even with Cooper. Still never became that level QB. The move by Jerruh getting Cooper sunk his chance to get Dak’s extension done first thing. I realized the screw up immediately. Dak overreached to bank it on Jerruh. That was with Cooper. All that happened after Cooper wasn’t possible without him for Dak. This is plain obvious by what occurred after Cooper’s arrival. Did Jerruh cough up the elite money even after Cooper boosted Dak that half season, since that’s when Dak was first eligible for this to occur? Even with the huge boost by Cooper and feeding max hype. That got Dak leverage to overreach for elite contract status. Even with Cooper’s boost …and reaching for the stars…it was questionable that Dak should be paid like that. Nowhere near that level before Cooper. Just earning remains the starter level player. Jerruh still hesitant to believe Dak should be paid that huge contract…after Cooper boost. That’s why the whole extension became so drug out. Dak isn’t elite. Just isn’t. He’s a quality starter though. Jerruh was right to not want to cough up top contract money ti a player the level of Dak. Jerruh still is struggling to face this question on Dak. Well after his third season now. Dak optimized overreaching , the huge cowboy overhype machine and max leverage to basically hijack the cowboys options. Zero reason Dak could have forced all this happening without Cooper. He used everything to force getting overpaid with all this. With all this….the situation was Jerruh was questioning whether to cough up the huge money. If after Cooper it was so hard for Jerruh to swallow and actually offer the contract finally up. He went through tagging him. To prove and convince him finally on his worthiness.
Once you consider and understand all that being the case it’s obvious Dak wasn’t in the realm of accomplishing any of that without Cooper. He overachieved with Cooper.
So the real mistake Jerruh made contract wise with Dak was trading for Cooper. Stop jumping the gun based only on what happened because of the trade. It completely changed the situation. None of that is possible without the trade. So not talking about never trying to field a good team for four more years to lower a guy’s contract. That trade..that midseason of Dak’s contract year cost the cowboys. Just don’t get Cooper in the middle of that season. Nothing else future wise to deliberately sink Dak’s leverage needed.

Again...for the 100th time.

1.  " Howie is not perfect, I do not agree with every move.

2.  In comparison to the league ... I ask you,  which GM would you prefer to have?

3.  In comparison to the 49ers...  the Eagles have the advantages in 3 areas.  ....A.  better results.  B. way more draft capital.   C.  Way more cap space.

In setting up your organization, those are the 3 things big picture that matter. What was my record til now.... and how am I set up for the future.    Eagles vs 49ers .. the Eagles smoke them in comparison. .. all the way around.

Currently the Eagles have a SB title...vs Zero for SF.    Going forward we have way more assets.

But congrats to SF.... they have the best RB, LB and the best results of all time with a Mr. Irrelevant.  They win a free cup of coffee.

The congrats to the Niners on their results is premature. This is the first whole season they finally have two of those pieces you are referred to. Mr Irrelevant just got on the scene late last year. Now they actually prepare and build their O for him. Same with McCaffrey. Having an actual QB instead of basing things on the Lance lead O they did last season. Planning for McCaffrey as well as him actually knowing the playbook this season. I don’t prefer a GM that’s butchering obtaining his QB. Plenty of teams and GMs get by just having a QB to mask many other flaws. Hardest achievement for any NFL team is to win and especially achieve postseason success lacking a QB. Most need more than even having a QB. Need a QB that’s hot that game. Niners have accomplished a very high level, not just needing the most important player..but having a QB that’s been a liability. Niners have crippled such an incredible roster by floundering the most important position. Not remotely the first team in NFL history to struggle finding a top QB. But they’ve had unbelievably great GMing otherwise. Great coaching they've managed to keep turning to. Their D coaches keep getting promotions elsewhere. So others around the league clearly believe their coaches are top notch. But they continue to replace such highly touted coaches with the next top coach. All starts with them bringing in the HC to start. Shannahan is arguably the top O mind in the game. I’m biased towards AR obviously. Never considered him "The Bronze Standard” like one poster labeled him here. Contracts, cap, trades and drafting they rank high on success rate. Just terrible at that one position of QB. How does a team give up the mega draft haul like they did for Lance and get to the NFC Championship game?

How the Niners do this season is what’s to judge. Not because they acquired the greatest QB ever seen. Just finally got a guy that’s competent. A decent QB makes that squad so scary.

Fantasy draft 3. Hard to believe I got JJ with pick 9 LOL I'll take it

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/do-the-eagles-have-a-no-2-quarterback-problem-with-marcus-mariota-or-is-the-answer-tanner-mckee/ar-AA1fr3V4  Mar on a 1 year. I suspect we don't re-sign him if McKee keeps up they way he has been. Another weird situation though because he is a pocket passer not a runner. Next year I think he is the 2. Book can leave right now LOL and we find another #3

They better do it this season... their cap space isn't there next year, and not much in this year's draft to develop either ( at least nothing in the first 86 picks.)

They lost a bunch of players to free agency...added Hargrave and Sam Darnold.

Their whole thing is run it back with Purdy...lol

Good luck.

No shot Mariota comes back.

Nope I don't see it either. McKee is a pocket passer, but we have the WR's so although he can't run he should do fine. He looks really good so far, excellent pick up

https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Jeremiah-TrotterJr-LB-Clemson  IDK if Howie would buck tradition, but this kid I want to keep an eye on this year. He really needs to address LB IMO. Kid has pedigree lol I'm sure his dad wants him to be an Eagle LOL

Salary wise...best thing is to draft a guy and get him as cheap #2.     The vets cost as much as a top 10 RB... other things to invest that money on.

We need another Jeremiah Trotter in Philly

If managed correctly could sell McKee for a good price….QB factory keep rolling

  • CB Zech McPhearson suffered a torn Achilles during Thursday's game and will miss the rest of the season, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reports, per a source.

Disagree, don't think Book was ever in the plans.to be #2.   If so, they wouldn't spend for Mariota.   Book was a roster filler last year.

Why? We'd have a solid on the rise BU until his contract is up in 4 years. Why would I go out and pay another"vet"? In 4 years we can decide where to go. Maybe Hurts gets so badly Hurt he can't play again (see Tua). Why would I make that kind of decision right now???

And now he is expendable and should be expended

Or keep him 4 years so you don't need to invest anything else.

And will be...unless you think they keep 4 QBs?

You  need someone to get beat up the last preseason game.

Nope .that's what I said Book can get to booking right now

Or he can play the last game so nobody gets unnecessary injured for no reason.
