WOW 1 game or partial game and you know who is promising already? VS 2's and 3's? Watch Clevland route running, very crisp for a young guy. Thats what you look for in pre,not catches or yards. Even when not targeted, did he get open? Thats the things they are trying to see

He is tall. So they through it up to him. Like I said 10 targets…only 5 catches. Throw it high…less likely to get intercepted with a chance for completion. Good for backup QBs to play it safe doing.

So afer a few weeks we know "what you do here"? Some talented players take longer to transition to the NFL than others, you should know this

You pick your team on what the experience was here right?   Or why goes through camp?

SO looking at Carters college film didn't move the needle for you???

GB... I'm not getting into this same stuff where you change the subject..

I'll make it simple for you...  THE DECISION ON WHO MAKES THE EAGLES IN 2023 ... NGATA OR CLEVELAND ...SHOULD BE MADE OVER THEIR PERFORMANCE IN EAGLES CAMP... not their college film .

You follow???   It's nor complicated...you don't have to go study film now.

It’s a combination of everything up until this point. All the previous film and experience is considered. They bring guys in based on many factors based on their thorough scouting reports. Some players they might just have a few question marks they identified. Want to see in person if they can be corrected and are fixable. But the whole 53 and PS all weighs in at the end to make the decision. Balance everything out to come up with the best TEAM. I’ve referred to as the roster Championship Puzzle.
It could even come down to cutting a better player based on many factors. Many times it’s based on the lesser guy leaning towards his upside or potential ceiling. But it could come down to positional factors also. The need for the lesser player depth at his position outweighing the heavier depth options at a position of a better player. Even have to factor in educated guessing the likely hood of PS options. Could come down to the guy right behind a player at his position isn’t much of a dropoff and is very likely to be retained on the PS. Usually is the case at RB. A possible example could be Greg Ward. Guy gets open in a phone booth. Catches 5 passes on 5 targets in the PS game. Has shown he doesn’t shrink in actual game action. Just comes in and catches TDs. Not an exciting player. Not coveted league wide. Not tall. Not fast. Just reliably gets it done. Might have to keep a lesser player protected on the 53 because the next best option for depth at his position is a huge dropoff or more difficult to find.
Point being the decisions aren’t solely based on talent alone. Whole team roster picture is factored. WR might be cut for a CB. And so on….fans tend to oversimplify the job and situation. Frankly some of it comes down to reading the crystal ball on what’s going to occur during this season.

But yes….gotta think the largest factor is what occurs/ed here this TC.

How many of the 53 roster spots were actually even available and open to be won to begin with? Last year I was pounding the table that Blankenship earned and won a job. Almost guarantee it was heavily debated about whether he would make it to the PS and needed to be protected on the 53. Hard to cut the more recognizable hyped name players for an undrafted guy from a nowhere little school. Especially cutting guys the GM drafted. Giving up on a GMs own picked draft choice reflects directly on his job performance. Once you give up on that guy…it’s chalked up to a poor draft decision. But cashing in on a Diamond in the Rough undrafted player is one of the ultimate GM job earners. I say one of because…nailing round one picks is still probably the most important. Jalen Carter pick working out to be a Pro Bowler just can’t be beat. You know keeping Blankenship wasn’t a unanimous thought for everyone in our franchise. Sure glad they did though. Great call! How good is Blankenship looking? I wanted them to roster him last season. Then saw he was ready to contribute on the field. But man, I didn’t even dare to dream he’d look as strong as he looks poised to be this season.

What I’m trying to say is: Blankenship looks ready to have a great season. Not just becoming a starter level quality. He’s been making plays. A big dog in the back end…that’s hungry…and going to eat! Excited to watch and root for that guy!

Rosie admitted and was forced to recognize how bad he was picking and drafting S many years ago. Blankenship and now maybe….Brown…turned that weakness around. Good signs for our franchise.

NFL.com has an article of potential surprise cut candidates. Listed Mariota for us. Don’t understand the logic really though. Based it on McKee outplaying him. Which I agree on McKee looking promising. But no reason to cut Mariota over that. Need three QBs anyway. Keep up the blowing smoke up Mariota’s bum that he’s still number two so he doesn’t become disgruntled. Only have to actually get into who is the real number two backing up QB1 if injury occurs. Only cross that bridge when forced to. Even if McKee straight is labeled number 2….still doesn’t equal forcing Mariota out. So considered that articles logic flawed.

Trading Mariota is a possibly though.

But I don’t think Mariota even has much trade value now anyway.

Not happy giants traded for Simmons. Didn’t even have to give up but a seventh rounder. We should have made that deal ourselves. But guessing Rosie just didn’t even hear about it going down.

Mariota ....trade would be only option,  they aren't cutting him and eating $5 mil.   The only option I see is a team with a running QB lookibg for similar style.   But you figure that's why he is here, not his passing.

As far as the guy who went to NY.. I'm sure it was known...where would you put him on our squad at this point?   Earlier in offseaon to where you try ti find a role..but dude seems like he is without a position...a guy you need time to see where he can fit in

I don't watch college so I have no idea how this guy did as an amateur.

What's the deal with Fred Johnson ?

He was released yesterday and resigned today to a 2 year deal.

Anyone know what the reasoning would be there???

Some kind of league rule or something that's advantage Eagles?

Depends how desperate someone is

Watched the 1st quarter. I can't believe Mariotas 22 yard gain wasn't picked.

McGee was behind on 2 of his passes I saw and i hardly recognized any names on the O or D

This game tells us nothing

Sure it does... the guys that aren't playing pretty much made the team.

Sermon getting in work... you can tell they are showcasing him for a trade.

Yes it does.. the guys that aren't out there getting beat up... made the team.

Pop the champagne..... I don't have to see, hear or read about an upcoming preseason game.  One of the best  nights of the year.

No more reading up on this obscure player...   no complaints about strategy or who got in the game.

It's real football time baby....prepare for the Pats.... let's go!

Only 7 fantasy drafts before it starts!!!!

" I want this guy cut immediately...why is he on the team " .... that guy is getting cut now..

Just like Paulie from the Godfather..." you won't see him no more"   and he won't get to taste the cannolies on the way out the door.

Simmons is a freak athlete. Young guy that labeled a tweener maybe. Optimistically you’d view him as versatile multipositional. They had him as a LB with their struggling squad. Gannon went there and they were convinced to move him to S. Obviously Gannon feels he failed as any S he could use. A kid so talented like Simmons is hard to just not be any fit anywhere. A good coach could find a use for him. It’s possible he just stinks as a football player. But kind of feels like coaches failed with him. Not teaching him..or reaching him to get it out of him. Gannon trying to FS him after being LB in the box was a huge switch. He’s ideal as a hybrid player. SS…in the box ….with speed and length to cover ground to disguise the playcall.

We could have used him. I can’t say for sure he’d work out for us. He hasn’t done anything fantastic so far in his short NFL career. But he’s exactly a guy you take a shot on. A good coach finds ways he can contribute….if not unlocks his full potential. For a seventh? Sixth? Worth rostering such an elite ceiling potential player. Want a guy that takes up a roster spot on the bench developing? Simmons worth that spot.

Releasing a guy early makes it harder for clubs to add him. But also tests the league on his worth. Figure they just found out how likely he is to reach the PS.
