Pass rush beater is the quick hitters. And then running it.

Whole time to beat Gannon just throw underneath. Week one when he arrived straight to the last game. Coverage most always soft over the top.

Problem is Siri preaches in his D to play that way. Offensive minded guy. Just wants the D to not give up the big plays. While making a play or two turning the ball over to counter balance.

  • Author

I don’t like that philosophy. Clearly analytics I do believe show winning football tied to creating the big plays.

But neither side of the ball can be so predictable. Gotta get up and jam receivers some. Throw off the timing. Then the pass rush gets an extra second.

Gannon was always so easily shredded by quick passing game. Not sure why teams saw it his first few games in charge at DC. Then stopped doing it. AR dialed it up like KC was warming up against the cheerleaders defending.

Quick passing kills the pass rush. At least give the pressure a chance. Especially when being a franchise so obsessed with the trenches investment.

Can’t play super soft so much to just allow teams to nullify our pass rush. Makes no real sense. If you believe in top priority is pass rusher….followed by pass rusher…before considering other positions? Playing a D scheme that gives up letting receivers run free off the line and giving huge cushion…doesn’t coexist with belief in pass rush focus. The only way to erase the pressure from the rush is quickly getting the ball out in timing routes.

You know? You can’t always give the O the exact key pressure beater catches. If the pass rush is the supreme focus like our team does…disrupt receiving routes. Jam the WR. Gives the rush an extra second….versus giving them one less second. QB has to just trust and Chuck it taking the hit. Interceptions occur plenty that way. Makes them force to go big plays. Which equates to giving up some big plays. But Gannon D scheme proved so clearly how a record setting pass rush is beaten every time by just throw it quick. Which Gannon always gave up without contesting.

Gotta mix up the playcalls on either side. Spending so lopsided on the rush while ignoring the second level of D…LB..maybe SS. Slot corner kind of. You practically telegraphing the easy yardage. Slants and crossers…quick passing attacking our weakest spot…which eliminates possibility for a rusher to even have a chance to pressure…much less sack.

Putting a five man front while the QB is throwing exactly focused to best the rush….all day long for any QB that can consistently throw accurate real short passes. No disruption of receivers at the line. Coverage by ignored LB room of two? How are we not expecting to witness this happen all season long? Only D win comes when the O commits a penalty…or drops a pass. But two passes usually gets the first down. So one drop not even a drive killer.

That’s not talking about the opponent running the ball. LBs targeted in coverage are asked to ‘read’ run or pass. The run D plan appears questionable at best too. Ignored LB room job to make all the plays tackling against the run. So our weakest spot on the team is conflicted over run responsibility or coverage. So they are the exact guys watching things unfold before acting. Losing a step while conflicted…while not being enough to expect fantastic run shutting down…or coverage.

Won’t take Mahomes and Kelce to succeed on us like that. Just capable NFL players can do this job to beat us.

Skeptical this season isn’t so heavily resting on Hurts shoulders.

If our QB1 has to do everything from week 1…the whole way? Tough for him to survive and especially be healthy at the end.

D is giving up points this season. Just feels highly likely. RB room is least reliable and struggling to look to be dangerous playmaking position group. These obvious most highly likely assumptions about our new team equals….Hurts Hurts Hurts…then QB1 QB1 setting up  the Rb hopefully doing decent when D loosened up enough to not be focused to stop the different play type occasionally.

Wish we could conservatively utilize QB1 to aid his possibilities of less abuse by the end of season. If he is so heavily relied on week 1 and so on…taking plenty of hits running and passing? Percentages plummet of his potential to be at his best week 20. I wanted to go heavy RB to take burden off Hurts much more. More conservative early approach. Be nice if Hurts has an easy week or two. But even being conservative…still can unleash our QB at the end if demanded.

Usually hear about monitoring touches and usage about RBs. I’m thinking that way about our QB. I’d rather be a low seed in the playoffs with a healthy Hurts. Two seed while he’s gimpy is a rough way to expect top results.

6 days...  and the first game of the season will be about over.    The 2023 season baby.  Let's go!!!  Can't wait to discuss the here and now...fresh conversations.

I’ve been just discussing this wear and tear on Hurts concerning this season. But it also should be considered towards his career length longevity. Massive Hurts abuse to dig out first half of this season wins…lowers the likely hood he ends this year strong….while also logically eating at the end of his career.

  • Author

Hurts is the golden ticket for us! I would have focused more on protecting the top franchise asset. My early assumptions point towards the opposite. Hurts going to take heavy punishment right off the bat to achieve victories.

  • Author

Can’t preach RB shortened career expectations while ignoring it factoring the QB. RB at least can be subbed and rotated. So that’s my look ahead biggest concern this season. Hurts taking too many shots running and in the pocket first five weeks of this season. Could limit 2023 success and….like 2028 success. Do as much as possible to protect the golden ticket. Seems obvious for no Hurts haters that will just force expectations on him to be Superman 20 weeks a season. Those haters so obviously will be first to take shots at Hurts so beat up postseason being less than sensational. Him being at his best after so many games ,just common sense logically , the odds lower of happening after each hit he takes to get there in the first place.

  • Author

So punishment Hurts endures first five weeks would factor in my strategy this year. If he takes too much so early? I consider and most likely start to plan giving him a game or two off some free along the line. That’s on top of the bye. Heavy usage by QB- needed to start this season…if that’s the outcome early? I focus less on top seed in the NFC. I focus more on best way to get QB1 to the finish line fresh as possible.

Not something seen purposely done much at all before. But just makes very little sense if witnessed early that Hurts has to carry the team so much while taking hits running and in pocket….to just continue on that path every game. Gotta have some ideas and thoughts monitoring levels of his physical punishment intake. At what points…what levels and amounts do they allow before they shut him down that game to expect him to make noise in the postseason? Or consider saving him by having him skip any games? Huge important issue and subject for the 2023 Eagles!

Yet you said the reason we lost the SB was the bad field that took away our pass rush advantage?? SO the theory was not wrong just the field(and the drop). I'll take a GREAT D line anytime for pass rush and rush stuffing. Force them to pass by outscoring them, then they are 1 dimensional and if you are in the QB's face after that, there will be no big plays coming from them
