Right, like when QB2 Koy Detmer was the holder. Has to be someone that they can allocate that duty to while they're being paid.

Remember his brother Ty "Stick" Detmer?

Ty didn’t pan out in the NFL, but he was an amazing college QB….yes, not the SEC, but fun to watch. That was when we had 4 channels and BYU or USC was the only collage teams on TV. 😳

When I was a kid....LB Jerry Robinson.... S Randy Logan...  CB Roynell Young... WR Mike Quick

Then a little later....Jerome Brown, Keith Jackson and Eric Allen were all really good right away.

Recently probably Lane .. but he had his one awful game vs the Chiefs right away,  but dominated pretty much right away.

They were some good rookies. Most played on very average to crappy teams though. Seems like the Eagles were NEVER serious contenders in my teens through mid 30’s. They had a year or two that they won the division but certainly weren’t serious contenders in the playoffs. The fans loved Buddy Ryan, but he didn’t win a SINGLE playoff game. His defenses were awesome, but the offenses were offensively HORRIBLE. One year the team won a game or two only because the defense scored.

Joe, you and I are about the same age. Did they win any playoff games between 1982….once Vermeil left…. and 2000? AR And McNabb came in about 2001 or so I think. Thats when they started winning regularly and contending.

Seems like Ty Detmer actually led them to the playoffs with Ray Rhodes as coach one year. They lost the playoff game. Other than that, it sucked. Cunningham was pretty average in Philadelphia. Team was built around the defense. His real success was in Minnesota.

1.  Let's be honest about the situation.  Buddy took over a complete crap team in 1986.  The owner was cheap, he made the players pay for their socks.    There wasn't free agency, the team has to be built through the draft.

2. He was here 5 years, made the playoffs in 3 of them.     The NFC East during that era,was probably the best division in all of sports... EVER. Then add that 49ers team.

3. Playoffs were 5 teams. 3 division winners and 2 wildcard teams.

4.  The Eagles did win a playoff game with the team Buddy built in 1992 at the Saints.  Also won under Ray Rhodes vs Detroit in a high scoring game.... Rodney Peete was the QB.

Seth Joyner tells the story where Buddy told him that he was going to draft HOF OT Erik Williams who went to Dallas instead... we used 2 first rounders on Antone Davis.   Maybe they should have waited a year to fire Buddy,  could be Dallas doesn't win any SBs without Williams.  Maybe Lurie buys the team earlier and he would have gotten Buddy Wilbur Marshall and Jim Lachey like Buddy wanted.  Who knows.

But having Lurie has been the change that was needed.

There is a reason his tires aren't used that much.

But let me ask... what is he being saved for??? Why does he continue to be taken off the field on key plays for guys like Gainwell and Hubbard?

Saquan Barkley would be the reason

https://www.buccaneers.com/news/2023-game-preview-eagles-buccaneers-week-3-monday-night-football I know we're heavy favorites, but really we can't take them for granted. Seems they are protecting Mayfield pretty well, which will be a HUGE issue if we can't get to him. They still have very potent WR's and our secondary is still suspect in may spots. You can laugh about Mayfield and make jokes about the 4 teams in 4 years, but he can still hurt you. Only 1 team comes away undefeated. This will be a showdown with TB at home, Their D line is pretty good,we'll need to be creative on running plays. Let's see if the new OC learned anything from last week

What is Saquon Barkley have to do with anything?  The Eagles kept Sanders fresh for Carolina....Carolina is keeping him fresh for his next team?

Looking forward to 2025..." we should go after Miles Sanders now that he is available...." low tread on the tires"  for a guy his age.

I have sanders as my RB 2 in 2 leagues. Really a disappointment. I'm giving him 1 more week before I bench him and I suspect Carolina is also. Mattison is another loser. I picked up Akers in a couple leagues,I think he will do well and easily take the spot from Mattison. A nice surprise for me is the RB for the wuss. He looks solid

People said the same things, that we were doomed, when we lost Shady LOL.. Seems to me that "no name" guy named Swift with 175 yards is doing just fine. And he just got here. Was that a fluke? I don't believe so. He posted decent numbers in Detroit and his "tread on the tires" seems to be fine here for awhile

The obvious reason Miles barely saw the ball in college until his senior season.

Should be an interesting game tonight. 9ers should be able to do about whatever they want. Suspect a huge dose of Caff, some shots to Kittle and a token amount to the wide outs. Possibly a blow out

I’m so old they sent me to a school called GATE(gifted and talented) once a week. What that meant in my day was: they had computers 😂😂😏

I was fortunate enough I got an Apple III from my dad’s work. It was the business version of the home computer they were making Apple II/e I think it was called. Actually used to code my own games in it. Wish I still had it going. Everybody would laugh at how long I took to make such simplistic low graphic games. My friends and family were amazed by them. Thinking back on all this just really makes me face just how old I’ve become.

Gooddell has little to do with that decision. Blame the owners if you want to. Reality is the money is there to get. Who would turn it down? Nobody.

Kafka doing a nice job for the Gnats so far
