I wanted the two headed monster RB backfield. That was my answer to minimizing Hurts risk early on. Run the ball and play D. We could use a nice blowout easy victory this week.

What’s the top draft pick choices you’d be willing to give up to improve this years squad before the deadline?

Isn't this kid coming out from USC supposed to be generational QB?

Why wouldn't you just draft him and not pay Fields.  Now you have a guy locked in on his rookie deal from the start, as opposed to having to pay Fields.  It seems kinda obvious what the move is??  That's right now though... more games left to play so anything can happen.  Maybe they start winning?

They have no qualms about dropping rookies into the fire,so why not trade Fields for draft capital or that and a player you need. If this rook QB is "generational" then he is going to need an O line(so does Fields). Once again all the Fields trade talk last season and they made no move. So no it's not obvious at all. There are many ways they can play this just like last year. After a MEH first 3 weeks Fields looked better last week. They also need to shore up their defense. I suppose alot will hinge on how Fields plays from here out and WHO has the #1 pick. What's "obvious" is they have lot of options.

What year is this for Fields?  3 or 4?

Depends on the conservative side I’d wouldn’t want to give up more then like a 3rd…. At the same time though if we went all in gave up a 1st and won a SB I wouldn’t complain(on the flip if you gave up the 1st or 2nd and don’t win different argument lol)

Think this is Fields 3rd year

The bears are definitely in an interesting spot I would say if I was them I’d lean to selling fields collecting draft capital and going all in for the #1 overall pick.

It’s a gamble no sure things in the nfl even for so called generational talents but getting to reset that QB pay window to me is the big part. Bears still need a lot as GBFL has mentioned not having to pay your QB 100m+ is just massive.

In theory the Bears should get more draft capital moving fields and have more cap space to spend in the years to follow.

But before any of that the bears need fire there terrible coaches just horrible job by them from the games I’ve seen this year

3 if I recall

Also I think it would be the best thing for Fields career talent is there he has shown that even if not consistently… Think just getting out of Chicago and with a coach that can actually maximize his talents would be huge I do think a coach like Smith(Falcons) could do that sure there are other options as well.

IDK that Fields is the problem. I think they wait and see how things go

LV,Denver(although that would be a killer),maybe Seattle if they want to get younger at QB. Pats are another since Mac is "meh". Steelers maybe

TB also unless they are thrilled with Mayfield

Don’t think Fields os the problem more coaching but the situation the bears are in just seems to make more sense to move him. But who knows what the bears end up doing

To me not having to pay the QB which is coming for Fields on top of getting the extra draft capital if you traded him is why I lean toward the idea of the Bears trying to move him.

But at the end of the day that is just my opinion and I don’t run the bears so doesn’t mean much lmao 🤣

Yeah IDK either,2 good WR's good RB's with the addition of Roschon. I think they need line help now. Fields regressed but not sure if it's due to play calling(must be) because he has more weapons than he ever had

See how they do after mid season,if they look strong they may stick with Fields since they would have him 1 more on a rook,or as you say make the change now for a rook for 4 years. Tough call they have to make.

Could care less about Fields, more concerned about how to handle Donald and our secondary. Like the Roby signing even tho there's no immediate impact and I don't think it's that much better than what we have. More that we can put players back where they belong. This game is not a cakewalk. We've been blessed with an easy beginning schedule and getting by on BS.

Imo Opeta is actually better than Jurgens at RG and will prolly get a salary boost in the OS as Jurgens moves to C. Unfortunately I do believe this is Kelce's last yr. Hey - if he wants another he gets it, just don't think it's happening esp after watching his special. Hate watching these guys go - Peters, now most of our old timers. Thought Peters would be back as OL coach - maybe Kelce? Still remember a lot of guys on this board sayin Kelce was too small!

thers you go GB. Birdgang Vodka fot nat'l vodka day, they also make a bourbon

I would just let the year play out and see how all the things unfold.

It's why I asked what year Fields is in.. if this is year 3, then he has trade value after the season.   If it was year 4, then they would lose him if they didn't already lock in the 5th year option.

Plus you need to see where the draft picks fall.

As of now, they own the first 2 picks.  Both Carolina and Chicago are 0-4...the only winless teams.

If it stays that way,  they get the QB without giving up extra assets.  Much easier than having to trade up for the pick, which could be way too expensive.

My assumption is any team bad enough to get 1st pick will ask for the moon since it would be passing up this QB.

If the Bears get  picks 4 and 6 or so....then it's 2 more picks to build around Fields. Compared to probably having to give both of those picks plus more to move up to #1.

Didn't Opeta give up a sack like right away?

Half the league makes the playoffs. If we are worried about not making the postseason then all this talk doesn’t matter anyway.

Agree ....I hate the playoff expansion.   Loved baseball when 4 division winners made it.... football when 5 out of the 14 teams in each conference made it....the switch to 32 teams and keeping 2 Wildcards was perfect.  12 out of 32... 3 out of 8 teams...that's a perfect ratio IMO.

I agree with forcing any QB to their weak side. Always tougher to get the body squared up and throw. Hurts probably more susceptible because he can’t just flip his wrist like Mike Vick tossing it 50 yards.

Right....he has a below average arm in 2020s NFL.    Out of the 32 starters..he is for sure bottom 3rd if not lower in arm strength.

That's just arm strength...can't do much about it,either you have it or not.  I'm not blaming him fir it, would be like blaming him for being short.

Its an obvious move that I was very surprised that team didn't try to push him left more last year.

Hard to say exactly where the balance lies of acceptable amounts of risk for are QB in the regular season like this. I want him to take as minimal risk as possible while we pick up the win. But a loss isn’t the end of the world either. Don’t want him having to play like the SB during the regular season. Not until towards the end at least anyway. Cowboys games let it rip also.

So i would add..

1.  You don't pay your QB a quarter of a billion $$$ to hand off.   If we played Mahomes or any other top QB, you would prefer their teams to hand off as much to avoid the stud QB making plays.

2.  You pay your QB...you give him an OL to pass protect....and WRs to throw to.  You want to utilize his passing to win you games.  Trent Dilfer can hand off and win ... you don't pay that guy a quarter of a billion.

3.   I agree with not putting him in unnecessary danger.   Very simple... STOP CALLING DESIGNED QB RUNS...other than the sneak..

If he runs its to escape pressure or get an easy first down.   That's it.

Not much to balance...you run with RBs and keep running when it's  working.  You pass the ball like normal teams do with stud QBs.   And that's it.  He runs on his own ..to avoid danger,  not to invite it.

The QB run play sheet....leave it in the desk until December at the earliest.

Not really that concerned with Donald sure he is going to make some plays nature of the game when your playing a guy that’s one of the best but overall our OL should hold up fine along with Hurts ability to extend/avoid pressure with his legs.

Secondary we are going to let up yards probably a lot and tds but goal in my mind is can we get a turnover or two Stanford trusts his arm a ton and will make some risky throws that we need to capitalize on.
