I’m seeing the Saints having solid potential. Have many of the pieces to get into the second tier in the NFC

Niners and then Lions. Tier one for me.

Ham, trust me on cap stuff...you stick to college.  When the team trades him, they will take on dead money...from the renegotiating... the new team gets the salary, but no dead money.  The Eagles could release him and not pay...if they want.  But common sense they try to redo the deal if they trade for him.

I’ll listen. But not feeling any reason to defer. Such a friendly cap number this season it makes adding a big time proven bet S very manageable. For all. Which means competition. Cheap this year and market value of 14 next could alone be worth the trade value.

Assuming an extension isn’t crazy thoughts. But he’s over 30. Can you really think extending another over 30 DB is anywhere near the wise route? Trust me…it isn’t.

Rather suck up the 14 next year after cheap play now. Can’t kill anymore big money trapped up in old DBs.

Just a real bad plan for the future of this franchise. Basically killing the window to try and contend to just next season.

Why do you have such a high opinion of the Saints?  By watching them...or is it the great trade they made with the Eagles last year that you can't let go was a bad one for them?

How many wins you think the Saints finish with?

Could see many things occurring with them. But see the Saints having strong ceiling potential.

Saints on a bit of a comeback here. Could get interesting

I don't see it... other than an easy schedule and nobody standing out in their division.   That's why they could get in... I don't see them being ahead of Jalen Hurts team.

Again..  cheap Cap hit this year....because redid the deal ...they trade him they take on dead money ... from changing salary to signing bonus.

The new team never deals with the signing bonus, it goes towards the original teams cap as dead money.

The Eagles get the salary...the remaining for 2023... and they can decide to keep the rest of the contract in place... or they can redo a new deal...or they can release the player.

The new team is under no obligation to pay the following season...as it currently looks on the contract.

Yeah... you can easily extend a guy who has zero guarantee on his deal.  They can use the $14 mil as leverage... they can give him $20 mil over 2 years with the bonus and the guarantee...with void years at the end.  Basically pay him more....and lower the cap hit a lot....while spreading it out over 5 years.

Idk why you miss the fact they have plenty of cap space coming up.  Hurts is locked up... AJ is locked up... they have nobody that's a 4th year player coming up to have to overpay.  They can use leverage for Smith and Dickerson to extend them ...pay them handsomely and make it very team friendly.

Plus they can actually save about $10 mil more by extending #7.    I know it's a difficult concept...because he actually gets paid so you don't see where it saves $$.

Cap is going up huge... Howie and Co set it up nicely .... 2019 was 4 years ago....things changed.  Ironically it's the 49ers who cleared cap 6 years ago who are now in trouble.

Because you don't understand contracts.  You never " suck up money " in one year. Absolutely the worst thing you can do with a rolling cap.

Cool. I never said otherwise. Knowledge I already possess.

Then why did you say you weren't sure the Eagles wouldn't be obligated to pay next year?

Reading the arrogance just dripping here. So once again your brilliant idea is to extend an older DB…on a team locked into older DBs? Not brilliant at all.

I never did. You just jumped to bad assumptions.

It's not arrogance...it's the proper way to do a contract if you believe the player can play a couple of years.

Are you arrogant enough to say he can't play 2 more years?

Have to pay him 14 mil for next season part of the contract.

Idk...to me the words " Have to" means that the team is obligated...or doesn't have a choice.

Am I wrong here?   Does " have to" mean something different?

Best way to play trading for him might be to just accept his contract. Suck up the 14 mil next year keeping it strictly as a two year move. Rosie just can’t do that though..we all know. Now the part of contracts I’m not positive about is: his contract has already been reworked. So not sure how many times you keep adding to one contract. Like it would be best to rip up this contract replaced with a new one year deal next offseason. Then spread things out by utilizing signing bonus more than roster money.

Didn’t say that…either. You really putting thoughts and words big time into my mouth here tonight.

I’m saying we don’t want to consider him more than two years. Putting so many eggs in the Twighlight DB market for us is completely unsound strategy. Terrible idea. Questionable they brought Slay back even really.

Three starting DBs over 30 you talking extensions? Nahhh
